Kalka: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh here on Sunday said there would be no talks with Pakistan unless it acts against terrorists and stops supporting terror activities.

He further said if talks were held with Pakistan in future, they would be only on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“If talks take place (with Pakistan), it will be on PoK (Pakistanoccupied Kashmir) and not on any other issue,” he said.

Singh said this while addressing a public rally ahead of the flagging

off the BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra for the October assembly polls in Haryana.

On the scrapping of the provision granting a special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, Singh said the decisions had sent jitters to Pakistan and it became a cause of concern for them.

As per the PwC report, India is poised to be the third largest cinema market in the world by 2021 and the Indian media and entertainment industry is slated to grow steadily over the next four years. The industry is expected to ex-

Mukesh Sharma Jaipur: The Bisalpur dam, the main drinking water source of Jaipur, Ajmer, Tonk and Dausa cities, has filled up to 96 mm on Sunday. The filling of water in the dam slowed down on Sunday.

But there is continuous flow of water in the dam. The water level of the dam was 314.20 RL meters till 6 pm on Sunday evening.

After good rains in Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur and Deoli, the water level of the dam had risen sharply in the last three days. But since Saturday night, the wa-

ter in the dam is flowing slowly. The total filling capacity of Bisalpur Dam is 315.50 RL Meters.

Now the dam is only 30 cm empty. The major sources of water in the dam Triveni river is flow-

ing continuously. Triveni river is flowing 2.80 meters wide on Sunday.

After filling the dam, the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) has prepared to increase the

supply of Bisalpur water in Jaipur city. Currently, 3400 lakh litres of water is being taken from Bisalpur dam.

PHED can increase the amount of Bisalpur water to 4000 lakh litres.

Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh went to flood-hit areas in Dholpur.

Jaipur: During the last 24 hours, intermittent spells of rain and thundershowers have occurred over the Pink City. A total of 17 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the city. The sky conditions are overcast over the city with multiple-layered clouds.

All these weather conditions have occurred due to the presence of a Low-Pressure Area over Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Haryana. The above system has now moved north-eastwards in the presence of a Western Disturbance.

Hence, weather conditions will start improving. However, sky conditions are expected to remain the same.

The day temperatures have increased slightly and are expected to be recorded close to 28 to 29 degree Celsius. However, the night temperatures have remained between 22 to 23 degrees.

Fire breaks out in a truck loaded with sarees on Delhi expressway First India News Jaipur: A surprising incident occurred on the Chandwaji – Delhi expressway in the wee hours of Sunday wherein a fire broke out in a moving truck. A consignment of sarees was being carried in the truck and as the fire broke out, the presence of sarees resulted in the fire taking a gargantuan shape quickly. he Academy held a Reunion on August 10th and 11th for all its employees who worked here and superannuated after 1997 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Mussoorie campus and to acknowledge their contribution in making LBSNAA one of the finest institutions of the country.

The main celebrations will be held on September 1 when Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Prasad will deliver the keynote to the members of the 94th FC, lay the foundation stone for the new nine hundred seat auditorium, launch the coffee table book ‘Karmasu Kaushalam : Excellence in Action’ and release the special first day cover on the Academy, besides interacting with the existing employees.

And so we had over four hundred of our ex faculty and employees – ranging from ex Directors Wajahat Habibullah, DS Mathur and Padamveer Singh and Joint Directors VK Agni-

hotri and Prem Gera to our Mess employees, horse riding assistants, housekeeping, and the watch and ward staff coming in with their families.

Many came with their grandchildren to show them the place they had worked for their lifetime.

Many of the children who grew up on this campus hold responsible positions in the civil services, defence forces, academe and the corporate world.

There was a general sense of cheer and some wonderment at the changes in the academy. For those who superannuated in the last century and were visiting the Academy after two decades, the changes were quite stark. Almost everything was now on an auto mode, and most transactions were paperless. The gardens were cleaner, the sports facilities had improved, and most importantly, power cuts were a thing of the past- both on account of the much improved power situation in Uttarakhand, and the presence of backup gensets.

Your columnist also shared with everyone present the expectations which the government has placed on the Academy. From next year all the successful candidates in CSE will receive the FC training here at one place – rather than at two or three Academies which really affected the espirt de corps–the raison d’êtrefor the Foundation Course, and this will involve the construction of a new nine hundred seat auditorium to accommodate the entire batch.

The souvenir shop received a large number of visitors – and stocks nearly ran out for several key items like Academy T-shirts, track suits and the walking stick! The weather gods were kind, and the evening dance and dinner to the accompaniment of the Gurkha Regiment band was the grand finale to the two day event which made the hills come alive to the sound of music, dance, remembrance and fond expectations!

“Slowbalization” is exactly what the world needs

A

group of Italians started the Slow Food movement back in the 1980s.

Stay away from fast-food restaurants, they urged: Eat local, focus on traditional recipes, relax and enjoy your meal.

The Slow Food movement began as a protest against McDonald’s, which opened a new franchise near the Spanish Steps in Rome. But it grew into much more than that. Slow Food was a finger in the eye of globalization and its relentless transformation of culture into uniform McNuggets of experience from New York and New South Wales to Dakar and Dhaka.

Since that call to culinary arms, the movement has spread to other branches of culture: slow cinema,

slow education, slow medicine, slow design, even slow travel. To a world addicted to ever greater connection speeds, ever faster modes of transportation and ever more caffeinated feats of multitasking, the go-slowers recommend a perverse resistance to the frenzied scherzo of modern life in favor of a more comfortable adagio. Now it seems that the global economy is finally catching up to this fashion.

CATCHING UP Earlier this year, The Economist identified several key indicators of what it calls “slowbalization.” The portion of trade as part of global GDP has fallen. Multinationals have seen a drop in their share of global profits. Foreign direct investment tumbled from

A tariff war is bad. So is a global recession. The apostles of economic globalization fear that growth will slow, poorer

countries will be deprived of a chance to catch up to the rest, and interstate conflict will sharpen without the softening effects of trade.

But perhaps slowbalization is exactly what the planet needs right now.

How else to reduce the global carbon footprint, shrink economic inequality, and reorient national economies toward local growth? The world faces a number of urgent crises.

Perhaps the ancients were right when they coined the phrase “festina lente” — more haste, less speed.

Heavy rain in Himachal claims 18 lives Schools in Shimla will remain closed today due to heavy rainfall & landslide. All educational institutions in Kullu region will also remain closed New Delhi: At least 18 people were killed and nine others injured due to rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, officials said.

Shimla District Magistrate Amit Kashyap has said in an order that schools in Shimla will remain closed on Monday due to heavy rainfall and landslide in the Himachal tourist town.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the district will continue to witness thunderstorm and heavy rainfall for the next two days. All private and government educational institutions in Kullu region will also remain closed tomorrow, August 19.

Eight people died in Shimla, two each in Kullu, Sirmaur, Solan and Chamba and one each in Una and LahaulSpiti districts, they added. Landslides hit a spot near the RTO office in Shimla, leaving three persons dead.

In another incident, a labourer was killed and six were injured after the wall of a house collapsed in the Lower Cemetery area following heavy rainfall early.

Two persons were killed in a house collapse in Chamba district. The incident took place at Lona in Mehla subdivision at 3.30 am, killing a 70-year-old man and a seven-yearold child, Chamba SP Monica Bhutunguru said. In Kullu, a man was washed away in Sujwad Nullah.

NADA to test players during Duleep Games BCCI demands for qualified medical practitioners as Lead Dope Control Officers New Delhi: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will start testing the players registered under Indian cricket board during the next Duleep Trophy game in Bengaluru, having agreed to BCCI’s demands for qualified medical practitioners as Lead Dope Control Officers (LDCO).

Recently, BCCI’s GM (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim and head of anti-doping unit Dr Abhijit Salvi met sen-

ior NADA officials, including Director General Naveen Agarwal, to discuss the road map after the country’s richest sporting body came under its ambit.

“We are looking forward towards commencing this partnership soon beginning from Duleep Trophy,” the NADA had announced after the meeting.

While NADA is not expected to test any players during the ongoing opening game

between India Blue and India Green teams in Bengaluru, there is a possibility of carrying out a few tests during the next game which starts on August 23.

The BCCI, on its part, handed the full itinerary of the domestic games for the season, including the dates and venues, so that the NADA can prepare its cricket testing calendar.

“The Duleep Trophy has already started and

probably they will be coming for later matches. They haven’t specified whether they are planning target testing or random testing. It is expected there will be a few tests done on match days (in-competition),” Salvi said.

The BCCI’s anti-dop-

ing officer cleared the air about how exactly the Board is going to “pay extra” (differential cost as said by CEO Rahul Johri) to ensure highest standards are

maintained during tests that are carried out.

“Our primary concern was about quality of Dope Control Officers (DCOs) and time taken for disposal of cases. NADA has assured us about both.

What we have requested is that we would like DCOs assigned for BCCI tests to be registered medical practitioners (MBBS) with knowledge of anti-doping,” Salvi said.

The moment the DCO is a doctor, there will be excess charges involved and BCCI will be paying that, which

BCCI CEO has already clarified.

Asked whether it will be possible for the NADA to arrange for so many qualified doctors, considering the number of matches that BCCI organises, Salvi had a solution.

“When IDTM (International Doping Tests and Management of Sweden) used to collect samples, they would assign medical practitioners. We suggested the NADA if they can empanel IDTM registered doctors,” Salvi said.

A look at NADA’s website would suggest

that the qualification for DCOs is science graduates and the remuneration paid is Rs 20,000 per month.

Currently there are 111 empanelled contractual persons under NADA which includes Lead Dope Control Officers (LDCOs), DCOs, Blood Collection Officers (BCOs) and Chaperones.

In the list of 111, there are only 16 registered doctors -- all designated as LDCOs. Out of those 16, there are 12 who are based out of Pune and four are residing in Thiruvananthapuram.

New Delhi: India’s tennis federation will look to convince world body ITF into changing the venue of their Davis Cup tie against Pakistan in Islamabad with team captain Mahesh Bhupathi likely to play a key role in the tele-consultation on Monday.

The tie has become a matter of speculation ever since Pakistan downgraded diplomatic ties with India citing the revocation of

Article 370.

India had named a full-strength team for the September 14-15 tie in Islamabad.

But after Jammu and Kashmir was turned into a union territory, Pakistan asked the Indian ambassador to leave their country, halted a goodwill train service and tried to kick up an international row by continuously issuing aggressive statements against India.

Despite the escalat-

ing tension, India’s Sports Ministry made it clear that it won’t interfere since it is not a bilateral series.

The All India Tennis Association nonetheless has a tough job at hand to convince the ITF to provide a neu-

tral venue since the World Governing body still feels that current circumstances do not demand a change in venue.

“Safety and security are the ITF’s highest priority. We are working closely with the host nation and independent expert security advisors, and the ITF is satisfied with their current security assessment of the site and the security plan in place,” ITF said in a statement.

“The overall security risk rating for Pakistan has not changed, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely with our advisors,” added. ITF though has agreed to address AITA’s concern and will ensure that its security consultants speak with them. Bhupathi will also be part of the teleconference, scheduled for Monday.

“A Nation with Choice of Ground may lose its choice at any time if the Davis Cup Committee considers that it is not possible or practicable for the opposing Nation to reach or play at the venue chosen for the Tie, due to (for example) an incident such as war, political unrest, terrorism or natural disaster,” reads the rule 30.2.5.

The cell will work under the leadership of IG. Gehlot said that the heinous case monitoring cell would work under the supervision of ADG (crime) and leadership of Inspector General of Police. The cell will have one Deputy Inspector General and two Superintendent of Police level officers. Apart from this, there will also be two legal officers. An Additional Superintendent of Police or Deputy Superintendent of Police of each Police Range or Commissionerate shall also be a member of the cell. The legal officer will monitor after the case starts hearing in court.

Srinagar: Restrictions were tightened in some parts of the city on Sunday following incidents of violence a day earlier, even as the first batch of Haj pilgrims returned to Kashmir from Saudi Arabia, said officials.

They added, restrictions continued in many

parts of the Valley for the 14th day on Sunday.

Restrictions were reimposed in certain areas which witnessed trouble on Saturday after the curbs were eased in several areas of the city and elsewhere in the valley, the officials said.

They said protests

took place at around a dozen places in which several protesters were injured. However, the exact number of injuries was not available, they added. The officials said the flights carrying around 300 pilgrims landed at the Srinagar airport in the morning. —PTI

itness has become a major aspect in every youth’s life today, and Namrata Purohit has been promoting Pilates very effectively.

‘Pilates Studio by Namrata Purohit’ completed a year in the Pink City on Saturday, and she was present for the same. In an exclusive interview with City First, she spoke about how she got into this field and her bond with Bollywood celebrities.

Asking about what motivated her to get into Pilates, Namrata Said, “I think fitness has been a part of my life literally since I was born. I have seen my father (Samir Purohit) who loves sports and has always spoken about the importance of sports. Him being in the fitness field drew me towards it, not realising I would take it up professionally one day.” On discovering Pilates, she stated, “After a major knee injury, I discovered Pilates, and since then there has been no looking back, which was ten years ago. I have been teaching Pilates for a decade now, which

Remembering about how it all happened, she said, “I honestly don’t know. That’s a very tough question because I don’t even know how that happened; I’m really happy it did, as it’s a very exciting experience to train with the celebrities because you have targets, goals and short amount of time with so much happening like lifestyle changes, mood changes, look changes.” She also mentioned, “It’s a fun challenge for me also to be working with them and of course they are anyway too much fun to work with. I don’t know how the ‘celebrity’ thing happened. Years ago, someone walked in and then their friend, and the word of mouth made the people just flow in.”

As she has been training Bollywood celebrities for a really long time now, she knows almost all of their inner secrets.

Talking about how the celebrity ‘inflow’ started into her studio, she said, “If I am right, Singer Manasi Scott was one of our first celebs. Then I think Bipasha, Neha and Jacqueline dropped in around the same time, and it has been a blessing ever since.” Since celebrities spend most of their time with Namrata to get fitness tips and eventually get fit, she is always aware of the inner secrets of their personal lives. ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’

ichard Williams, the Oscar-winning animator who worked on the hit film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, is dead. He was 86. Williams died at his home in Bristol on Friday, his family announced.

The award-winning animator, who was born in Toronto but moved to the UK in the 1950s, won awards for his work as animation director on the 1988 film, which starred Bob Hoskins. The triple Oscar and triple Bafta winner also worked on two of the ‘Pink Panther’ films and ‘Casino Royale’.

‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, a live-action animated comedy set in Hollywood in 1947 in a world where humans and cartoon characters co-exist, was a critical and commercial success.

Williams, who was hired to supervise animation sequences, helped create the film versions of Roger Rabbit and his wife, Jessica, first depicted in the book, ‘Who Censored Roger Rabbit’.

He won two Oscars for the film, in the special academy award category and for special effects.

His daughter, Natasha Sutton Williams, said her father - who had six children - had been suffering from cancer, in what she said had been quite a swift illness.

She said: “He really was an inspiration to everyone that met him. Whether they were animators, or from the top to the bottom of society. An incredibly generous, warm-spirited person who really wanted to learn about the world.”

Williams, who was also a voice actor and writer, credited ‘Snow White’ - which he saw at the age of five - as having a ‘tremendous impression’ on him.

His first film, ‘The Little Island’, was released in 1958 and won a Bafta, while his animated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ in 1971 led to him winning his first Oscar.

During his lengthy career, Williams also wrote a how-to book called ‘The Animator’s Survival Kit’ and was animating and writing until he died.

he Sobhita Dhulipala-starrer ‘Moothon’ will be premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The action thriller also stars Malayalam actor Nivin

Paul.

“The film is part of the special section at TIFF. When I first read the script many years ago, I was blown by it. Now, I am glad that it is getting its due. I am looking forward to showing this film to people at the festival, interacting with the international press and movie aficionados,” Sobhita said, adding: “The script was a winner at the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. These movies deserve a variety of audience and not just a remote release in Kerala.”

‘Moothon’ has been written and directed by Geetu Mohandas. The bilingual drama, which will release in Hindi and Malayalam, narrates the story of a young child in search of his elder brother. The film has been shot mostly on the islands of Lakshadweep, where the story is based. It also features Shashank Arora, Harish Khanna and Omkaar in supporting roles.

Apart from TIFF, the film has also been selected as the opening film of the 21st Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) thsi year. Anurag Kashyap, a co-producer on the project, will be penning Hindi dialogues for the film.

any expected Giorgia Andriani to make her acting debut with her beau and actor-producer Arbaaz Khan’s upcoming film ‘Dabangg 3’, but she says she is neither acting in it nor performing on any special song.

Asked if she will be shaking a leg in the film or acting in ‘Dabangg 3’, Giorgia told: “It’s all speculation, as much as I love the brand and admire the creativity of Arbaaz and Salman (Khan), I’m not acting nor performing in ‘Dabangg 3’...who knows in the future.”

“In the meantime, I’m loving every bit of its making and looking forward to the release of ‘Dabangg 3’ in December,” she added.

Instead of the Bollywood biggie, the Italian beauty chose Tamil web series ‘Karoline Kamakshi’ to launch herself. “I chose this series because I am representing a very interesting character - Karoline, who has contrasting aspects that are challenging to portray and that I found very motivating,” said Giorgia.

he second audition for the mega dance event ‘Battle of Dance 2019’ took place on Sunday at Aagaaz The Group, where more than 75 candidates from the city participated to promote their dancing talent.

The finale of the event will be judged by the contestant of Dance Deewane Season 2 Shakil Shaikh in the city.
