Two-day long celebrations to mark the 75th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, under the close supervision of Ashok Gehlot at Birla Auditorium, ended on Tuesday evening. A hardcore Gandhi family loyalist, Gehlot’s Rajasthan happens to be the only state among all other Congressruled states to celebrate Rajiv’s birth anniversary at this large scale and that too in a well-organised manner and others participated in the run, which was flagged off from the Ram Niwas Garden. Energy Minister BD Kalla, government Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi, Sports Minister Ashok Chandna, Deputy Chief Whip Mahendra Chaudhary, Mayor Vishnu Lata, MLA Krishna Poonia, Chief Secretary DB Gupta and others were also present on the occasion. The event was jointly organised by the Energy Department and the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Co-

operation. The Congress party organised memorial events across the country on Tuesday to mark the 75th birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took the local people by surprise through an unscheduled halt at a tea shop on the occasion. Bangal-Dangal? Dhankar meets Boss, then his Man Friday Shah Naresh Sharma

T West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting lasted for an hour. Dhankar reached Delhi from Kolkata on Monday night and drove from the airport to AII India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi to enquire about the heath of veteran BJP leader Arun Jaitley. He wished his speedy recovery and met his wife, son and daughter...

he newly appointed West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar, who is considered as a personal choice of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, made his first call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday. It is believed that his hour-long meeting with the Prime Minister and a forty-five-minute meeting with the Home Minister Shah, was mainly centred around West Bengal, which is going to assembly

polls in 2021. After BJP’s dramatic win on 18 Lok Sabha seats in a state ruled by Mamata, Amit Shah is further enthused and encouraged to bring a saffron government for the first time in West Bengal. As a part of his strategic plan, Amit Shah, as the party President, took over the meeting of all regional pracharak in New Delhi on Tuesday to workout a complete grassroots polling booth strategy for upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal. After 370, now West Bengal is Amit Shah’s one-line mission.

...and later in the day, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar met Amit Shah.

Gehlot rewards loyal, son of the soil Yadav; grants 2-yr extension Satyanarayan Sharma Jaipur: In a dramatic and unprecedented development, the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, by recognising the merit, performance and loyalty factor of the present DGP Bhupendra Singh Yadav, granted a two-year extension to him, extending his tenure till June 2021. Gehlot’s judgement came soon after the High Court rejected a petition challenging the validity of the ap-

pointment of Bhupendra Singh as DGP. Everyone in the police force was stunned and surprised with this “bold and pragmatic” move of the powerful Chief Minister, who is getting more and more decisive in his present tenure. Another human and emotional aspect of this move is that by acknowledging “son of the soil” background of Bhupendra Singh, who happens to be the son of a CRPF consta-

ble, Gehlot had gone to the extent of granting a two year tenure to a person, who was due to retire in December 2019. Moreover, Bhupendra’s style of functioning also suits his mentor Chief Minister’s way of conducting affairs. Bhupendra’s appointment has also sent a clear message that the state government wants some sort of a stability in the top leadership of the state police to provide good governance and

clean administration at the grassroots level. According to sources, one sad aspect of this story is that another upright officer and a silent performer, Dr Alok Tripathi, who has done extremely well during his four and a half year ATS and SOG and three year ACB tenure (in the last seven and a half years), has virtually been left out and will not be able to make up to PHQ perhaps during his ser-

vice tenure. He is due for retirement in October 2020. However, still there is a “ray of hope” for Dr Tripathi or someone else because the state government’s order, which also has a stamp of Supreme Court directions and UPSC, clearly says that the appointment of Bhupendra Yadav is for a period of two years from the date of July 1, 2019 or until further orders, which ever is earlier. In fact, this is a “googly” in Yadav’s or-

der, which is being interpreted in their own way by the interested parties. According to a highly reliable input, Gehlot, at the time of appointing Bhupendra Yadav as DGP, had made up his mind even at that moment to provide a clear two-year tenure to Bhupendra Yadav and this fact was well known to CS and CMO both. In this way, Gehlot’s two month old mandate has now been fully implemented.
