However, with last Tues day’s action, it seems that the BJP wants to put all that in flashback mode and is raring to go ahead with renewed vig our. The party’s Nabanna Ab hiyan was one of its biggest campaigns in West Bengal in recentWithtimes.alittle over two years left for the crucial Lok Sabha election, the BJP again seems to be upbeat and the national leadership is also taking keen interest in West Bengal’s po litical developments. With the recent raids by the Enforce ment Directorate and sum moning of TMC leaders in cases of alleged corruption, on Ground Zero, the grass roots workers of the Saffron party have been working hard to mobilise the cadre and in duct youth into the party fold.

The appointment of Sunil Bansal as the West Bengal observer has infused a lot of zeal among the ranks. The appointment and his visit last month have boosted the confidence of the state unit.

It seemed that the party lit erally woke up from its slum ber in WB. However, state BJP leaders said it was not a “oneday miracle” and that the leadership had “been active on Ground Zero”. Also, state organisation secretary Ami tava Chakraborty, appointed in October 2020, was involved in building a “strong young

@dpradhanbjpPradhan A global citizen of the future! Early Childhood Care & Education from age 3 under NEP 2020 is a step in the right direction towards empowering our children and making them live up to their limitless potential.

BJP’s national president JP Nadda recently appointed former Bihar minister Man gal Pandey the state incharge for West Bengal. The party’s IT Cell chief Amit Malviya is already working with the state unit since No vember 2020, and national secretary Asha Lakhra are the co in-charges.

JP’s recent Nabanna Abhi yan was witnessed after a lull that lasted for more than a year. The Saffron party had put in all its might in West Bengal’s last year crucial As sembly election and follow ing its post-poll performance, the party, in the state, had seen a lot of transformation.

Also, “The videos of cash re covered in the ED raids shown on the media repeat edly gave confidence to the party cadre too and most be lieve that the state unit’s al legation against TMC has been taken seriously by the party’s central leadership.

WHAT IS IN STORE?

The High Court has given the BMC two weeks’ time to carry out the demolition but refused to grant a week’s stay on the order’s implementation on Rane’s re quest. After Kangana Ranaut’s illegal structure, this is the sec ond high-profile case in Mumbai. In the actor’s case, though, the BMC had to eat a humble pie.

It may be recalled that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had managed to win 39 of the 40 parliamen tary seats in Bihar in 2019. However, this time, BJP, in or der to remain on top will have to ensure an adequate number of seats in West Bengal, Odis ha, Jharkhand, and Telangana.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took that step a few days back by inaugurating a multiplex, Srinagar’s first in 32 years. In the Eighties, Srinagar boasted of eight cinema halls before hardliners struck. The first of the three shows of the movie Laal Singh Chaddha was to be screened on Tuesday

This, perhaps, has boosted the cadre which was feeling left out after the Assembly election drubbing and the subsequent “silence” of sorts of the state unit leaders for all these months.

With the Nabanna Abhiyan, the party workers who had lost steam, seems to be a spir ited lot. A boosted BJP now looks to be in an upbeat mood especially with Amit Shah’s recent visit which provided fresh hopes to the state cadre which appeared disillusioned. The workers on the ground now feel that Shah and then Bansal did the needful to bol ster their faith and believe that the central leadership had not taken a “soft approach” towards the TMC government.

It may be recalled that during a visit to WB in May 2022, Union HM Amit Shah had assured state BJP leaders as well as the cadre that he would directly monitor the party’s activities in state unit. This, perhaps, has boosted the cadre which was feeling left out after the Assembly election drubbing and the subsequent “silence” of sorts of the state unit leaders for all these months

It seems that the BJP’s Ben gal unit which was complete ly silent has again regained its inertia. On Tuesday, with Bansal in the state, the boost ed party had started its Na banna Abhiyan. The Abhiyan was capable of bringing to gether all the top rung lead ers of the state unit together.

High Court has done just that. It has ordered Union minister Narayan Rane to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakh and demolish the illegal construction he carried out in his eight-storey plush bungalow at Juhu. It was in March this year that the Mumbai Municipal Corporation asked Rane to re move the unauthorised construc tion. The Maha Vikas Aghadi government which was then in power had informed the high court that it was withdrawing the demolition notice served on Rane, who was regarded as BJP’s most potent weapon against the previous government.

The BJP despite all its might could not oust the TMC in the Assembly elections in 2021, but two years ago in 2019, the Saffron party had managed a tally of 18 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal and this was a rise of 16 seats from its tally of two seats in 2014. Subsequently, the BJP may not have reached the magic three-figure mark in the 2021 Assembly polls but it rose from a mere 3 seats in 2016 to 77 in 2021 and established itself as a formidable Opposition in the state. However, thereafter the BJP had some dismal performances in local body polls

With Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar severing ties with BJP, the Saffron party has again set its eyes on West Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats to compensate for the report ed loss in Bihar.

The party’s current leader ship combo also seems to be settling down and is gradually finding its stance. With the ap pointment of Sukanta Majum dar as the state unit’s chief in September 2021, the party’s top rung leaders earned lau rels from their bosses in Delhi for their Abhiyan.

Pepsicola was an other flavour we miss dearly. It wasn’t available in Jaipur at the time, which meant our annual holidays in Mumbai had fixed even ing treats – Pepsicola. Long slushy sticks filled with coke-like tidbit…slurp slurp. Psst, ice-creams made life a lot better back then. Long train and car journeys got exciting because of popsi cles. Boring weddings where adults socialised, the kids found each other at the ice cream counters. At such gatherings of the 80s and 90s, traditionally, vanilla was served with either choc olate or strawberry flavours. Remember how kids used to come up with their own DIY Sundae cups using those fla vours?
