New Delhi (Agencies): A prosecution witness in the Bilkis Bano case wrote to Chief Justice of India UU Lalit on Tuesday, 20 September, and expressed fear for his life, alleging that one of the key convicts threatened him. Eleven men convicted of gang-rap ing Bilkis Bano and killing 14 members of her family – including her three-yearold daughter – during the Gujarat riots of 2002 were released from a sub-jail in Godhra in August after a state government panel approved their application for remission of sentence.

35 FIRMS SUBMIT APPLICATIONS UNDER PLI SCHEME FOR SPECIALTY STEEL: JYOTIRADITYA New Delhi (PTI): As many as 35 companies have submitted 79 applications under the PLI scheme for specialty steel, Union Minister of Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday. The minister shared the information saying, “We closed all the applications two days ago and we received close to 79 applications from 35 companies. Looking at putting in place a capacity close to 28 million tonne per annum (MTPA) of new specialty steel capacity which will result in the creation of 70,000 jobs,” he said. The applicants include major steel players like Tata Steel, JSW Steel, JSPL, AMNS India and SAIL, a senior steel ministry official said. After shortlisting the proposals, the government will come out with a final list which would take around 35-40 days, the official said.

As part of the awarded contract, the Delhi-based charging solutions provider will set up 3.3kW AC and 7.4kW AC charging stations for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers at the existing Indian Oil fuelling pumps in these key territories. The Framework Agreement between the Centre and the NSCN-IM was signed in 2015 to end the dec ades-old insurgency in Nagaland. It was centred on the demand for a greater Nagaland or ‘Nagalim’ — a sovereign ethnic homeland, comprising the state and Naga-inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar. “Both sides have understood each other’s respective positions and are cognizant of the universal principle that in a democracy, sov ereignty lies with the people… It is a matter of great satisfaction that dialogue between the Government of India and the NSCN has successfully concluded and we are confident,” said the agreement. The agree ment further said that “it will provide for an enduring inclusive new relationship of peaceful co-existence of the two entities”. The interpretation of the agreement has become a hurdle with the NSCN-IM interpret ing phrases like “shared sovereignty” to mean that the Nagas are different and should remain so. They argue that their “sovereignty” must be retained.
