New Delhi: In simultaneous raids across the length and breadth of country, a multi-agency operation spearheaded by the NIA on Thursday led to the arrest of 106 activists of PFI in 15 states and 93 locations for allegedly supporting terror activities in country, officials said.

The maximum number of arrests were made in Kerala followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka, TN, Assam, UP, AP, MP, Puducherry, Delhi & Rajasthan. Arrests were made during raids which have been termed as the “largestever investigation process till date”. Raids are being carried out against those involved in terror funding, organising training camps and radicalising others to join extremist groups. Formed in 2006, PFI claims to strive for a neo-social movement ostensibly for empowerment of marginalised sections of India.

Jaipur: A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the husband of Rana Nahid, a victim of Triple Talaq, to pay the interim maintenance of Rs 20,000 per month, till the disposal of the matter in the Lower Court. The bench was headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Abhay S Oka.

In 2005, Sahidul Haq Chisti gave triple talaq to Rana Nahid, following which she filed an applica tion in the Family court seeking a monetary relief of Rs 8,500 from her hus band. The court accepted the application under the Muslim Woman (Protec

tion of Right on Divorce) Act, 1986, and awarded Rs 2,000 per month mainte nance for son till he attains majority and Rs 3,00,000 as one time maintenance.

The husband, how ever, stopped paying the maintenance since 2018.

So, everything else that we usually hyperventilate about (the drama around inflation, the possibility of sustained high interest rates followed by a prolonged recession, the threat of a nuclear war, the constant fluctuation in share prices) is actually a giant distraction to attaining solid long—term financial returns. Which is why one should bet on company fundamentals, not investor sentiment or macro— economic outcomes

Debates around macroeconom ic issues (interest rates, infla tion, wars, global political risks) are often esoteric in nature that only few inves tors fully grasp or under stand. Even well—known experts and economists will admit that they have had a very shabby record of accu rately predicting macro— economic outcomes. And yet many investors spend enor mous amounts of intellectu al horsepower & financial resources to gauge the state of world affairs. Maybe those who time the market to trade in & out of securities have seen large pay—offs but what the last two and a half years has shown is that the risks that hurt investors are not the ones they imaginatively price in but those that they did not see coming at all. In an ideal world, an equity investor would spend his en tire being on picking out in dividual businesses and judg ing if they are worthy of in vestments. In reality, most spend far more time rational izing the decline or uptick in share prices of companies based on their assessment of the prevailing macro—eco nomic scenario. Of—course, there is no denying that the

Sopore (ANI): Two per sons allegedly a part of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were apprehended by Sopore Police on Wednesday, after a cor don and search opera tion in Botingoo village.

The two apprehended persons have been iden tified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganai and Waseem Ah mad Lone, informed lo cal police. During the interrogation, they re vealed that they both were working for LeT and at the behest of LeT terrorist Bilal Hamza Mir, were planning to

attack the security forc es and civilians in and around the Sopore area.

While Imtiyaz was working as a hybrid ter rorist, Waseem was working as an Over Ground Worker (OGW).

The Sopore Police in formed that it had some reliable information about the presence of

terrorists belonging to the proscribed terrorist organisation LeT. Based on it, a cordon and search operation was launched in Botingoo village, along with 22 Rashtriya Rifles, 179 BN CRPF and Det Marcos.

New Delhi: Social media influencer Bobby Kataria was on Thursday granted anticipatory bail in connection with a video showing him smoking on a SpiceJet flight which had triggered a massive row last month. Kataria had moved an anticipatory bail plea in a Delhi Court in relation to an FIR registered against him for allegedly smoking on board during his journey from Dubai to Delhi on January 21, 2022. Delhi Police had taken cognizance of the incident and invoked section 3(1)(c) of the Suppression of Unlawful Act against the safety of the Civil Aviation Act,1982. Over ` 58,000 crore lost due to illicit trade

New Delhi (PTI): The ex chequer is estimated to have lost ` 58,521 crore in taxes in 2019-20 due to il licit trade in goods in 5 key industries, including FMCG, mobile phone, to bacco products and alco hol, a Ficci report said.

The size of illicit mar kets in these industries at a little over `2.60 lakh crore for the year 2019-20, with the FMCG industry ac counting for 75% of the to tal illicit value of goods in five key industries.

The two highly regulated and taxed industries, to

bacco products and alco holic beverages, account for nearly 49% of the over all tax loss to the govern ment due to illicit markets in these five key industries.

The max number of jobs (7.94 lakh) were lost due to illicit trade in the FMCG packaged foods industry.
