Jammu, 14 April 1975
Dear Natwar, Your letter of the 10th arrived only yesterday and I have just read it in the plane on the flight to Jammu. I have not been to Jammu for a long time and since this particular visit was decided upon, new and complex problems have arisen on the political scene. Knowing the Shiekh’s autocratic nature, I had envisaged such a situation, though not so soon. Now we can only try to set it right and hope for the best.
In the meanwhile, we have given in to a part of Morarji’s demandabout the Gujarat elections. It seemed such a silly point for which to fast or for us to hold our, since the difference in dates was only three months. However, our difficulties are acute and varied enough without having a dead Morarji haunting the scene. One has learnt to expect all kinds of unethical action from our opposition but I must admit that I was deeply shocked at the manner in which some of them including those in the Cong(O) seemed to view the prospect claiming that his disappearance from the scene would clear the way for opposition unity.
It is hard going for Mother Teresa. But I figured that it was better for me to support a really worthwhile candidate, even if the chance of success is slim.
I am glad you have reminded me about Dame Sybil Thorndike. Some time ago I had proposed that some way should be found to honour women around the world who have shown sympathy towards India. I do not know whether the Ministry has moved in the matter. The prospect of seeing a play is indeed tempting but I do not know whether it will be possible to stop over in London. With good wishes
Shri K Natwar Singh Deputy High Commssioner, India House Aldwych, London WC-2
Yours Sincerely, [Indira Gandhi]
Dear Natwar, Thank you for sending the Peter Jay’s remarks. He also wrote to me. My comment on that letter: “a bouquet from an unexpected quarter!”.
Malraux was pleased with his Indian visit and I was told by the French Ambassador that he was sorry to leave. I have glanced at Tara’s review of Bhatia’s book. To me it seemed a rather pitiable self-portrait-so full of hatred and pettiness-of the reviewer.
PS: This top portion was dictated long ago but I thought I would add to it. Hence the delay. In the meantime your letter of the 27 December has come with Pam Cullen. I was sorry to hear about her father. What a time to have to leave England.
Lord Louis is, as you know, incorrigible. He is friends with all the wrong sort of people and presumably believes what they tell him about me and about India. Krishna Menon had something to say about this just a few days before he died.
I am glad Prince Charles is breaking journey here but it will be difficult to do anything interesting in just one day as I suppose the protocol part cannot be entirely ignored. We are all stunned by LN Mishra’s murder. As the National Herald rightly says, although LNM cannot be compared with Gandhiji in any way, there is no doubt that it was the atmosphere of hatred, calumny and violence, spread under the wings of JP that was responsible for this dastardly act.
As you may have seen from the newspapers, we have had a torrent of VVIPs and international conferences-the brightest star being Gina Lolobrigida who interviewed me. I believe she has also interviewed Wilson, Kissinger, McNamara and Fidel Castro who had urged her to meet me. With good wishes for 1975.
Yours Sincerely [Indira Gandhi]Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh su premo Mohan Bhagwat’s out reach to Muslim intellectuals and clerics is be ing seen as a positive step to narrow down the widening gulf between the two commu nities. Bhagwat’s conversa tion with Muslim intellectuals was especially frank. The RSS Sarsanghchaalak was in formed of Muslims’ concerns over their vilification and be ing referred to as Pakistani, jihadist and terrorist and the need to restrain those who at tack and lynch Muslims on the suspicion of transporting beef and spew hate against the community members. Bhag wat raised the issue of cow slaughter and Muslims calling
Hindus “kafirs”, non-believ ers. The intellectuals report edly agreed that it was wrong. Hijab and Gyanvapi contro versies were also discussed.
The five intellectuals---the former chief election commis sioner SY Quraishi, former Lt-Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jang, former vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Zameer Uddin Shah, senior
journalist Shahid Siddiqui, who is also a national vicepresident of the Rashtriya Lok Dal and businessman Saeed Shervani. The RSS said that the meeting was part of Sangh’s Samvad (dialogue) process. Bhagwat’s first-ever visit to a Delhi mosque for a meeting with Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, the chief imam of the All-India Imam Organisation
Bhagwat’s conversation with Muslim intellectuals was especially frank. The RSS Sarsanghchaalak was informed of Muslims’ concerns over their vilification and being referred to as Pakistani, jihadist and terrorist and the need to restrain those who attack and lynch Muslims on the suspicion of transporting beef and spew hate against the community members
was also part of that process.
Intellectuals described the move as a great initiative, while Ilyasi preferred to call Bhagwat rashtra-pita. Bhag wat also advised Hindus to stop looking for a shivling in every mosque. Will those who gave hate speeches at the Dharm sansad in Haridwar last year follow Bhagwat’s line when they meet at Sangam
city next year? As for shiv lings, will the Hindus drop their claims on Qutub Minar and Taj Mahal? Most impor tantly, will Bhagwat’s land mark visit to the mosque sof ten hate-mongers among Hin dus? To ensure that Bhagwat’s efforts do not go to waste the Hindus and Muslims must keep up the process of dia logue for the country’s good.
Roger Federer has long been admired for his top class ten nis and sportsman ship. He is also re garded as a good human being and for his family values. That he commanded respect for these qualities is to state the obvious. His friendship with his on court rival Rafa Nadal has become more famous than that between John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg. Both sets of players fought tooth and nail on court but off court they have remained best of friends. An overwhelmed Nadal failed to hold back his tears as he said that a part of him was leaving with Federer.
Federer’s emotional side was on display at London’s O2 Arena where he signed off as one of the world’s greatest athletes. As he “tied his tennis shoes one more time” Federer said he was happy not sad but kept breaking down, intermittently wiping his tears. “It’s been a perfect jour ney, I’d do it all over again,” the Swiss star told a 17,000 strong crowd. New Delhi: With almost everyday one or the oth er Congress leader stressing that Rahul should lead the party and the Gandhi scion declining to take the mantle, the real ques tion is that when Rahul Gandhi has decided that he will not contest the election of Congress President, then why is the proposal of his name being passed by the state committees of Con
gress? Why State Con gress Committee meet ings are being called in every state and a resolu tion is being passed to make Rahul the President? It is also surprising that the head of the party's com munication de partment, Jairam Ramesh, has said in a
press conference that the resolutions being passed by the states are not binding. That is, the party high com mand is not bound to ac cept them, yet proposals are being sent from the states and about a dozen states have already for warded such pro posals to the high com mand.
In fact, this is being done to establish Rahul Gandhi as the supreme leader of the party and strengthen his moral authority. Any person may become the presi dent but the biggest leader will be Rahul. It will be said on behalf of the Congress that all the state commit tees wanted to make Rahul the president but he rejected taking the post. There will be pressure on whoever is the new president.

E ver since the rise of Narendra Modi on the national stage of Indian politics, he has changed the face of politics to a great extant. It is said that politics is a game of uncertainties, you can find the meaning of this story in many big decisions of Modi. No one is aware of what Modi is going to do next, but if a few voices of political background are reconciled properly, then its echoes tell that something big is going to happen in the Centre. A major
and many new and fresh faces may get a chance. Some ministers shown the way out of the cabinet may also get Governorship, while some may be absorbed in the organization and some may be put on hold. Especially those ministers or leaders are going to be blamed, due to which the central government has been tarnished in the last few days or those leaders who have given an opportunity to political rivals to corner the government. Sources also suggest that some leaders of the Eknath Shinde faction of Maharashtra may also
perspective of Bihar, some changes can be made in the central government. An unexpected decision of the Modi government may also come out regarding Madhya Pradesh. Purushottam Rupala may be vacated for Gujarat elections. However, till the last moment, who all would be removed and who will be given a spot, only speculations can be made on this. In fact, only two people know about what will happen, the same two people, who together make up the face of the central government!
Before Thursday, hardly any political analyst would have had any idea that in this era of ‘Hindutva’ in the country, one day suddenly RSS chief
Mohan Bhagwat will reach Gol Masjid on Kasturba Gandhi Marg. It should be noted that Maulana Ilyasi of Gol Masjid is also the head of the All India Imam Association. Bhagwat went to the Mosque and went to the madrasa and met the children, talked to them openly. A day before this, the Sangh chief also met five eminent Muslim intellectuals and had an open dialogue with them. Some Sangh thinkers are considering this innovative ef-
fort of Bhagwat as an initiative to create national integration. If sources are to be believed, the Maulana of Gol Masjid, Dr Umer Ahmed Ilyasi was trying to meet Bhagwat for a long time. Recently, in this sequence, a senior official of the Sangh had reached Gol Masjid to meet Ilyasi, but the matter of this meeting was kept strictly confidential. When Bhagwat came, Dr Ilyasi bestowed him with the title of father of the nation and sage
of the nation. Bhagwat became uncomfortable, even interrupted Ilyasi for this, but Ilyasi knew the biggest ‘epicentre’ of today’s politics? It is believed that both the Sangh and the BJP are divided in taking the Muslim community along. The line of the new BJP strategists is very clear that now there will be politics of Hindu interests only. Sources reveal that Ramlal played an important role in changing the attitude of the Sangh chief towards the Muslim community. Ramlal, who was the BJP’s national organization minister for 13 consecutive years, after some allegations, in July 2019, the Sangh called back this pracharak to its fold and was made All India Sampark Pramukh. Gradually Ramlal became
one of the most important advisors of the Sangh chief.
T he entire focus of Congress’ ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has shifted to Rahul Gandhi. Some Congressmen are saying, albeit in murmurs, that this ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has become Gandhi’s ‘Dandi Yatra’ because during Dandi Yatra, Gandhi remained visible and here in Bharat Jodo Yatra, only Rahul is visible. Ramkumar Shukla had taken Gandhiji to Champaran for the Dandi March, but he was nowhere to be seen even after being present throughout the journey. Similarly, Prashant Kishor had
the original idea of Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, people like Digvijay Singh and Yogendra Yadav worked day and night to make it happen, but today they are out of sight.
For example, Digvijay Singh was involved in the yatra with his journalist wife Amrita Singh. Amrita followed Rahul’s footsteps throughout the week, but Rahul did not give her any importance and did not even speak to her to enquire how she was keeping.
Hence, angered with Rahul’s antics, Amrita left the journey midway. She was in pain that no one recognized her. So what is the use of walking about on roads only?
Even ‘leaders’ like Kanhaiya are not being given any due recognition, but due to his familiarity in the media, Kanhaiya has kept himself busy in the journey.
Jaipur: With Gehlot set to vacate the post of Rajasthan CM, the MLAs have started displaying ‘discontent’ over the ‘one person, one post’ rule and have clearly supported Gehlot, going against the rule. On Saturday, Health Minister Parsadilal Meena, while speaking with media, said, “Ashok Gehlot, who has been CM thrice, did great works in medical field and other states also follow his work. If the government has to be repeated, it is necessary for Gehlot to remain CM. In the current situation, whoever the High Command names, will become the CM.”
Another Cabinet Minister Govind Ram Meghwal, in an exclu-
sive conversation with First India, said, “There is no harm in Gehlot being the CM & Party President. Whatever decision the high command takes will be respected.” Meanwhile, Advisor to CM Gehlot Babulal Nagar, also stressed that if Congress hopes to win the
next assembly polls, then Gehlot should be continued as CM. The race for the new CM has begun in Raj after Gehlot’s name was finalised as a candidate for the Presidential poll, Pilot has started meeting MLAs. The round of rhetoric has started in support of
Gehlot & Pilot. MoS for Rural Development, Rajendra Gudha said,” Ashok Gehlot has now decided to become Congress President. After Gehlot, now there is no better face than Pilot in Congress. After Gehlot, there is no other option than Pilot. I think now Pilot will be appointed CM in Navratri. Sachin is a youth leader & does politics in his own way.”
BSP turncoat MLA Wajib Ali, said that he is with PPA i.e. Pilot, Party & the High Command. Gehlot is a very senior leader & guardian. Terming Gudha’s remark as personal, MLA Joginder Awana said, “My personal opinion may be different, but I will abide by the High Command’s decision.”
Jaipur: Now that it has been more or less decided that a new CM will be at helm in Rajasthan, the question doing the rounds in political circles is what will be the selection process? Moreover, what ‘type’ of legislative party meeting will be held? Interestingly, in this regard, two leaders, associated with High Command, have given different assessments. The first assessment is that the legislature party meet will be ‘real’ & the CM face will be decided based on majority of MLAs. The second assessment is that the High Command has made up its mind & a one line proposal will be passed in meeting & decision will be left to Sonia Gandhi. New CM’s name will be announced from Delhi. Thus, only future will answer these questions now!

n Korean culture, taking care of your looks is just as important as being your best self in every circumstance.
In contrast to the heavy makeup that was typical in other regions of Asia, such as Japan and China, women from middle-class families did not go far from looking natural while using light amounts of natural and spontaneous makeup.
Based on tradition, Koreans have for many years created clear, glowing, and natural-looking skin that has made K-Beauty products better and more well-liked than ever. Making your own face mask allows you to create natural Korean cosmetics that you can use at home.
The modern cotton pads used in Korean face masks are soaked and infused with elements that are natural and effective at rejuvenating the skin. With these components, moisture adheres to your skin to keep it supple. In Korea, healthy skin has al-
ways been exalted as the ideal.
People frequently applied lard to their skin during the winter to soften and prevent frostbites.
As it demonstrates qualities of modesty and caution, which together make up inner beauty, having healthy, soft, and natural skin was seen to be the most attractive feature. These components assist your skin to retain moisture so that it stays soft and hydrated throughout the day.
All types of skin can benefit from the natural, excellent, and reasonably priced face masks offered by Saplaya. Thanks to the Korean history of employing natural,
distinctive, and harsh-free substances passed down over many years, Korean beauty products have considerably milder compositions.
Sea Salt and rice were combined to make a gentle cleanser for enhancing the complexion of ladies. Additionally, it aids in skin toning for the firm and supple skin.
Ginseng has a wealth of anti-ageing and antioxidant qualities that can be used for a number of cosmetic purposes to seem younger and healthier.

Paulo Coelho was born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, on August 24, 1947.
He was a rebellious teenager. His introversion and opposition made his parents put him in a mental institution. He escaped three times before being released at the age of 20. In 1986 Coelho walked the 500+ mile road of Santiago de Compostela, in NW Spain. It proved to be a turning point in his life. On the path, he had a spiritual awakening, which led him to write 'The Pilgrimage' book. Before becoming a full-time author, he worked as a theatre director and actor, lyricist and journalist. He has written over 25 books and received numerous awards. In 1996, he founded The Paulo Coelho Institute, which provides aid to children and elderly people with financial problems. In 2007, Coelho was named a Messenger of Peace to the United Nations.
'The Valkyries' book is a classic masterwork of spiritual tension and realization by Paulo Coelho. It asks the question most central to all literature and all of humanity's quest for understanding. "Why is it that we destroy the things we love most?" In a twisted tale, Coelho has laid bare his innermost thoughts and has shared some of his life secrets, encouraging everyone to believe in their dreams - if they ever want them to come true. It's a novel based on three F's: Forgetting your past, Forgiving your sins & Fulfilling your dreams. Beneath this novel's compelling story and shimmering elegance lie a bedrock of wisdom about following one's heart.
tense than Coelho's. The Valkyries tell him, "You need, not just courage, but the courage of a woman".
Chris is a strong personality, incredibly forgiving, and willing to accept her husband's flaws. She knows that their marriage is crumbling, yet she was there for him, sharing his journey. Herein lies Coelho's greatness. The work is almost indistinguishable from the man himself. Penning this autobiographical book must have required unparalleled courage and self-awareness- revealing his vulnerable life details and past indiscretions! It's an altogether different reading experiencelike reading a diary, exposed to everyone's judgment.

The enchanting true story of 'The Valkyries' begins in Rio de Janerio when author, Paulo Coelho, gives his mysterious master, J, the only manuscript of his book 'The Alchemist'.
Haunted by a devastating curse, Coelho confesses to J, "I've seen my dreams fall apart just when I seemed about to achieve
them". In response, J gives him the daunting task to find and speak to his Guardian Angel. "The curse can be broken if you complete the task". This book is a compelling account of this 40-day quest in the searing heat of the Mojave Desert, September 5, to October 17, 1988.
There, Paulo and his wife Chris, encounter the Valkyries, warrior women dressed in leather, travelling the desert on motorcycles, spreading the word of angels. Coelho narrates his spiritual journey and experiences gained in this journey as he continuously fights his inner demons. Led by a woman- Valhalla, the
Valkyries adopt Coelho when they realize he is of their 'Tradition' and guide him towards 'his angel'. Valhalla also tests his fidelity and his dedication to his wife. Chris, who never really believed in her husband's magic, begins to feel her consciousness expanding, engaging in her own spiritual journey, which is more in-
'The Valkyries' clearly presents the man that exists beyond the Magus, preparing us for beings 'away from perfection'. The true seeker knows that "regardless of our faults and defects, the spiritual path is stronger". If we look beyond our weaknesses, we find The Truth- "Love, Victory & the glory of God. We are responsible for everything that happens in this world. We are the Warriors of Light. The day will come, when the strength of our Love and our Will, will change everyone's destiny. Then, those who knock at the gates of Paradise will see them open, those who ask will receive, and those who weep will be consoled. The Angels guide and protect us. God is Love, Generosity and Forgiveness."
"At once a modernday adventure, a metaphysical battle with self-doubts and fear. A true story of two people striving to understand one another, and a supernatural encounter with angels. The Valkyries is ultimately a story about forgiving our past and believing in our future."

n a world of style, music and romance how can Dev Anand not be necessary? Dharamdev’s own list Pishorimal Anand (26 September 1923 – 3 December
2011 left his mark on cinema as an Indian actor, writer, director and producer through a career that spanned over six decades. Dev Anand will be remembered for his charm, the hairstyle copied across, his sloping rambling
walk, dialogue delivery and perhaps most of all for his spirit and the joie de reverie!
Dev sahab was not a master of the fight sequences, fighting with droll humour in most cases with rolling punches similar to his style on-screen but he was the master of romance and wooing his co-stars and the songs are legendary which still tug at the heartstrings.
We all have our list of favourite songs of Dev Anand and what better way to spend the weekend than tuning in to these romantic songs on your music app as you soak in the raindrops into your very soul?
My all-time favourite remains Din Dhal jaaye from Guide, for me, it is the epitome of love which tears the lovers apart… love is not enough, is it? It is the perfect song to listen to, on loop as you unravel the mysteries of
your own love story. Chhod do Aanchal from Paying Guest with Nutan is another one close to my heart as is Dheere Dheere chal from Love Marriage with Mala Sinha. Another classic is Abhi na jao chhod ke with Sadhana from the classic movie Hum Dono, which is a forever love song for the parting lovers. Tujhe Jeevan Ki Dor from Asli Naqli again with Sadhana is so hummable and so is the lilting Likha Hai Teri Aankhon Mein from Teen Deviyan with Nanda.
Gaata Rahe Mera Dil another one from Guide with Waheeda is as evergreen as the stars themselves. Just watch Dev Anand wooing the beauties and you cannot but fall in love with him and with the idea of love…just a little.
Pyaar zaruri hai aur Dev Anand bhi!
