First India Bureau
Mumbai: Taking a swipe at Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena - Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray leader Aaditya Thackeray asked if Shinde took “his friends along” on his recent visit to Davos to attend the World Economic Forum, which cost the state exchequer Rs30-40 crore.

“His trip was meant to be from January 16 to 20, but the CM reached Davos late and came back early. He had booked a chartered flight, but what is the use of it when it reached late? He wasted the whole day of January 16. If you consider a daily expenditure of Rs10 crore... Did he take his friends with him? If yes, who paid for them?” the former minister asked, while speaking to the media. Notably, CM Shinde returned from Davos late on January 18 so as to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s events in Mumbai on Januaray 19.
Pointing out that the government had not announced any agreements or MoUs following the CM’s visit, Thackeray said, “Whatever MoUs were signed at Davos, most of those firms are based here. Why take them to Davos and sign contracts which were already finalized?”
