Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Friday said the Shrad dha Walkar murder case should be heard by a fast-track court and the guilty be giv en the “harshest” punishment.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Pawar said an inquiry should take place if any policeman is found guilty of dere liction of duty.

According to the first information report (FIR) filed at the Bundgarden police station in Septem ber, the accused mes saged Satish Deshpande, from a WhatsApp ac count using the image of SII CEO Adar Poonawal la. Believing the mes sages to be from Poona walla, Deshpande, a di rector at the leading vaccine-producing firm, transferred the funds to the bank accounts men tioned in the WhatsApp conversation, he added.

Mehrauli murder ac cused Aaftab Amin Poonawala on Friday reached the Forensic Science Laboratory here for his next ses sion of polygraph test, officials said.
He had undergone a marathon polygraph test of nearly eight hours on Thursday. However, officials at the facility found it difficult to record his statements as he was not well.
Poonawala was brought to the Foren sic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Rohini on Fri day for another ses sion of the polygraph test, also called the lie detector test, as he seems to be in better health, they said.
“During the session (of polygraph test) on Thursday, Poonawala was asked details about the case, what trig gered him to kill Walk er, if it was a planned event or he did it in a fit of rage like he claimed in the court.

New Delhi (PTI): Gold prices fell by `270 to `52,837 per 10 grams in the national capital on Friday amid weak global trends, according to HDFC Securities. In the previous trade, the pre cious metal had settled at `53,107 per 10 grams. Silver also tum bled by `705 to `61,875 per kg. In the interna tional market, gold was quoting lower at $1,752.5 per ounce while silver was down at $21.30 per ounce.

Mumbai (PTI): The rupee settled for the day 8 paise higher at 81.62 (provisional) against the American currency on Friday on broad dollar weakness and improved risk sentiments. Forex traders said positive domestic equities and foreign fund inflows supported the local unit. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 81.69 and touched an intra-day high of 81.44 and a low of 81.71 against the greenback. The local unit finally settled at 81.62, registering a rise of 8 paise over its previous close.

Mumbai (PTI): Lubes maker Castrol India Limit ed (CIL) on Friday said it will acquire a 7.09 per cent stake in TVS Auto mobile Solutions’ digital subsidiary Ki Mobility So lutions with a planned in vestment of `487.5 crore in an all-cash deal. With this strategic investment, CIL aims to expand its presence in service and maintenance for both in ternal combustion engine (ICE) and EV and leverage myTVS’ digital and opera tional capabilities.
CIL, which accounts for over 80% of domestic coal production, is eyeing an output of 700 million tonnes (MT) for FY’23. “We began FY’23 requiring 78 MT jump in volume terms to touch the target of 700 MT. As of Nov 24, the com pany has already achieved an increase of nearly 58 MTs. “In the ensuing months we aim to sustain the tempo and further scale up the production and feel upbeat about achieving the target,” the PSU said.
Following the end of the monsoon season, most of the mines have been dewa tered. The festive season is
also over. There will be greater availability of ma chines and manpower lead ing to better production and productivity in the coming months, the com pany said.
The PSU produced 400 MT of coal as on Nov 24 of the current financial year, registering a growth of 17%. As of Nov 24, 2021 CIL had produced 342 MT of coal.

Mumbai: The village of Sultanpur (popula tion: 1,000) will now be known as Rahul Nagar with residents deciding to rename it in honour of native son Rahul Shinde, a constable of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), who was killed fighting terror ists in the 26/11 Mum bai attacks in 2008.
Shinde was among the first police person nel to enter the Taj Ma hal Palace Hotel in south Mumbai after re ports of firing by ter rorists. He fell after tak ing a terrorist’s bullet to the stomach.
The government honoured him posthu mously with a Presi dent's Police Medal.
On the eve of the 14th anniversary of the
26/11 attacks, Subhash Vishnu Shinde, father of the martyred con stable, told PTI how proud he was of his martyred son.
“All the government formalities for renam ing the village are done. I feel honoured that the village now bears the
name of my son,” he also said, adding that Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangre Patil— then Deputy Commis sioner of Police (zone-I) in Mumbai—helped him in the process.

Mumbai: The death toll related to measles surged to 13 in Mum bai after an eightmonth-old boy from Govandi died of the
infection on Thursday.
The child contracted the illness and died as a result, with multiple or gan failure syndrome and measles-related bronchopneumonia list ed as the causes of death.
The city reported 19 new cases of measles on Thursday, taking the cu mulative total to 252. As many as 34 new measles patients were admitted to civic or state-run hos pitals in the city during
the day while 36 patients were discharged, the Brihanmumbai Munici pal Corporation (BMC) said in a press release.
The civic body also urged citizens to get their children aged nine
months to five years vac cinated against measles.
Meanwhile, Thane city witnessed its first measles death, a senior civic official said Friday.
The deceased, identi fied as Shil Daighar,
died on Thursday, the Thane Municipal Cor poration official said, adding that the civic Chief Abhijit Bangar has asked departments to take all efforts to curb the outbreak.
