New Delhi (FIB): The SC on Wednesday heard Day 5 of arguments over the multiple petitions demanding marriage equality — the right of non-heterosexual couples to be wed and given the same rights as heterosexual unions. So far, the court has head from the petitioners, who argued in favour of marriage equality citing various issues - from the importance of family to the right to equality.

Elite argument can be set aside. Matter of prejudice. Does not determine how we rule on a constitutional issue. Special Marriage Act was intended to be religion-neutral, idea was to create a forum for people to marry outside their faith.

 ‘Right to marry can’t mean compelling the State to create a new definition of marriage. Parliament can do but it’s not an absolute right, said Solicitor General Tushar Mehta for Centre.

 If it is done by the court then it is detrimental to the LGBTQI since you are forcing something against the will of the people. We cannot forget the historical background which led to the institution of marriage, said Solicitor General Tushar Mehta for Centre.

KARMA YOGI, PM MODI

A little boy once put up this question to the PM “Sir, I have come to know you work for 18 hours in a day. Doesn’t this drain you out?” He replied “Son, we never get tired of working. We get tired when we have work pending.”

WORK IS PRIORITY FOR KARMA PRADHAN PM

A

Heartwarming Moment with Modi Saheb!

This incident that I am sharing today is of the time when Modiji was the CM. I called him up late in the evening and this was the first time for me. I introduced myself as actor JD Majethia from Gujarat. His response to me is something I can never forget. He said “Bol bhai bol, so tell me Porbandar’s boy, how are you?”

This is how Modiji wins your heart in the very first interaction! He knows everything and remembers every little detail about people. I took two minutes of his time and explained to him that the team would be coming to Gujarat and this was a special occasion as it was the premiere of my film Khichdi. I told him that it would be a great honour for all of us if he attended the event as Khichdi was not just a Gujarati film, it was a first-of-its-kind as it was based on a TV serial. This was

a record in itself for India and that we would all be grateful and thrilled if he graced the occasion by his presence.

After this conversation, I spoke with him a couple of times more and he asked me to visit Ahmedabad as well.

Then once I was prepping up for a cable interview when all of a sudden my make-up man came to inform me that the Police Commissioner wanted to speak with me. Well, I had no clue as to why I would get a call from him and I was surprised! He said to me “Are you JD Majethia and are you inviting Modiji for the premiere in a theatre? How do you think we are going to manage the security arrangements for the CM at such a short notice?” As we continued to talk, I said “Sir even I am clueless about what you are talking about. This is news to me!” Truly speaking, this definitely was the biggest news of my lifeCM Modi was finally coming

to the theatre to watch the premiere of my film Khichdi.

I explained to the Police Commissioner “Sir, we had run this scheme over the radio and the winners are all from Gujarat. They too would be attending the premiere.” Having said that, I instructed my team to continue with the interview and I rushed to meet Modi Sa-

heb, who was about to arrive!

I just reached the theatre in the nick of time and lo and behold, he was already there! I bowed down to touch his feet but he hugged me. Who can ever forget such a moment? His security made him sit outside for a while till they got the first three rows vacated for him. But when he came in, he

saw so many seats empty and immediately asked “So many people are waiting outside and I see vacant seats here. Why is that?” I said “Sir this is for your security!” “What?” he replied, “This is my Gujarat. In my Gujarat, who do I have to fear? Go and do this. In the first row, let my security personnel be seated. Let all other rows be occupied by people waiting outside.” Now think of it, what a moment it is for the public to get to sit in the front two rows with their CM seated behind them! Not just his, a lady came and offered sukhdi (a sweet and salty snack) to Modiji. Again his security stopped her and told her that the CM cannot eat anything just like that. But the way he responded to the lady simply won everyone’s heart “Due to security reasons, I am sorry I cannot have all of it. However, let me just pick up a little piece since you have offered it to me with so much love!” was Modiji’s response.

NARENDRA MODI WORKS 18 HOURS A DAY AND SLEEPS FOR ONLY A COUPLE OF HOURS. BUT DOES HE NOT GET TIRED?

To answer this question, Modiji narrated a beautiful story. Once a little girl was scaling the high mountain slope with her brother in her arms.

Someone stopped her and said “You are so small yourself. Why are you climbing this mountain and who is this boy? You will be exhausted!” But the girl did not answer and continued to walk ahead. Another passerby noticed her and asked her the same question. She did not respond and contin-

ued to climb up the mountain with the little boy in her arms. When the third time the same question came up to her, she replied with simplicity and innocence “This is my brother! I am not tired because I am holding my little brother close to me!”

Narendra Modi said that he never tires of working because he is working for his country, his people. When you work for your nation, your own brothers and sisters, you never feel exhausted.

Completely mesmerized by his commitment and dedication towards the nation, I asked Narendra bhaisaheb once, “You definitely overwork. When don’t you come home and rest a while?” He replied “Sorry bhai! Not in this life. If I happen to find time in my next life, I will definitely come to your place and rest.” He knew that now he is never going to find time to rest in this life. He is a karma pradhan person, which means that work takes priority over everything else in his life. He is relentlessly working towards nation building. He prefers to call himself a “fakir” who is ready to move with just a cloth bag on his shoulder.

NATION-BUILDING IS NaMo’S KARYA BHAR

Once I had to discuss something with Modiji one-onone. A group of people went to meet him and we asked him “Which chair is yours Sir?” To this he responded “I have no chair. The chairs here belong to the government. Only my jhola (cloth bag) is my own.” Since childhood, his entire focus has been on work and how to devote more and more time towards the work of nation-building that he has undertaken. In these words taken from one of his speeches in the parliament, he says “I saw the CM chambers for the first time after I became the CM. After becoming the CM, I saw Vidhan Sabha. I have never felt the burden or the pressure of any particular position that I have ever attained. It is only karya bhar, or the weight of the tasks one needs to accomplish, one’s responsibilities, that mean the most to me. We must prepare ourselves to ensure that we accomplish those tasks. We must devote ourselves completely to our duties.”

India has power to innovate, even in hard circumstances: PM

WILL ENCOUNTER DIVISIVE FORCES, SAYS PM MODI

New Delhi (Agencies):

“Divisive forces” will pose hurdles as India moves towards the 2047 target (of becoming a developed nation), PM Narendra Modi said on Wednesday.

“We celebrate diversity, different languages and skill sets. There is diversity in our beliefs. This diversity does not divide us, but it strengthens our bonds and relationships,” he said.

New Delhi (ANI):

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the shared history of Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu gives the assurance that India has the power to innovate even in the most difficult circumstances.

Addressing the clos-

ing ceremony via video conferencing, PM Modi said that the Sangamam is a confluence of nationalist fervour of Sardar Patel and Subramania Bharati. “At this time when the unity of our country is taking shape through the great festivals like Saurash-

tra-Tamil Sangamam, Sardar Sahab must have been sending blessings to us all. This celebration of the country’s unity is also fulfilling the dreams of lakhs of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to see ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” PM said.

He said that during Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav the country is witnessing a new cultural tradition like Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam. “We have to emphasize coordination, not cultural clashes. We don’t have to take forward the struggles and

confluences. We don’t want to find differences... we want to make emotional connections. This is the immortal tradition of India which takes everyone along and moves ahead with inclusiveness, accepts everyone and moves forward,” PM Modi said.

Cong used ‘religion’ to come to power, says Rajnath Singh

CONGRESS SLAMS SHAH’S REMARKS ON K’TAKA POLLS

Belagavi (PTI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday came down heavily on the Congress alleging that it used ‘mazhab’ (meaning religion in Urdu) to come to power. Singh also slammed the party for having introduced 4% reservation, in its earlier term, on religious lines in Karnataka, saying it had been done only to appease Muslims.

“If there is any political party in the history of India which took the support of ‘dharma’, or rather, ‘mazhab’ to come to power, then it is Congress,” Singh said, addressing a public meeting at Kagwad in Belagavi district. The Congress does the “politics of Hindu, Muslim and Christians”, Singh said. “Politics of this sort should never ever be done.”

Only to appease Muslims, the 4% reservation was given on religious lines, he alleged.

“We will welcome if an economically-weaker Muslim or a Christian gets reservation benefits but the Constitution of India does not permit religion-based reservation,” the Defence Minister said.

Just days before the Model Code of Conduct came into force, the BJP government in Karnataka scrapped four per cent reservation for Muslims under 2B category of the Other Backward Castes.

After making 2B redundant, the Karnataka government split the four per cent reservation, giving two per cent each to the two dominant communities of the state, Vokkaligas in 2C and Lingayats in 2D category.

ADITYANATH SLAMS CONGRESS OVER “ANTI-CONSTITUTIONAL” RESERVATION

New Delhi (PTI): The Congress on Wednesday termed Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks that Karnataka will be afflicted with riots if the grand old party comes to power as a “brazenly intimidatory statement”, and accused him of “issuing threats” during the election campaign. Addressing a public meeting in Karnataka, Shah said the development of the state will be on the “reverse gear” if Congress forms the government. “If the Congress comes to power, Karnataka will be afflicted with riots,” Shah had said.

Mandya (PTI): Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday attacked the Congress over religion-based reservation saying that it was against the Constitution. He also claimed that no riots took place in Uttar Pradesh in the past six years due to the strong ”double engine government”.

“Congress appeases the Popular Front of India (PFI) and gives religion-based reservation, which is against the Indian Constitution,” Adityanath said adding that India was divided on religious lines in 1947. The country cannot endorse religion-based reservation and we are not ready for another partition.
