CURRENTLY, THE REGION HAS ABOUT 24% SHARE IN THE COUNTRY’S OIL PRODUCTION Rajiv Gaur, Luna Ram Darji & Papu Brijwal Barmer/ Jodhpur: Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Mangala Oil Field in Barmer, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the historic task of petroleum extraction at Mangala Oil fields in Rajasthan, started about a decade ago, changed the shape and fate of not only the Barmer district, but also the entire state of Rajasthan and the country as well. He further added that the production of petroleum in this deserted place was nothing more than a miracle, which brought prosperity to the region. Gehlot was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of a new project, ‘Ujjawal’, under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme by Cairn Oil and Gas and Vedanta Limited on the occasion of the

10th anniversary of the Mangala First Oil. The Chief Minister said, “Since the commencement of oil production in the district, per capita income of the people in Barmer has increased by 650 per cent in the past decade. This is the highest amongst all districts of Rajasthan. Also, the contribution of Barmer district in the state’s GDP has become highest after Jaipur. Barmer stood at the second position in petroleum production in the country after Bombay High Oilfield. The state is producing almost onefourth of the total crude production in India.” The Chief Minister also said that anticipating this scenario, the Congress government laid the foundation of a Re f i n e r y - c u m - Pe t ro Complex during its previous tenure. He added that due to lack of will of the State government during the past five years, the refinery project could not take-off

GEHLOT CABINET TO MEET 4 TIMES A MONTH

Gehlot government is working in full swing now and turning another leaf, it has been deiced that cabinet meet will happen on Wednesday. After Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s approval, the cabinet secretariat has issued orders in this regard and this move is aimed at taking crucial decisions related to people on weekly basis. Thus the cabinet will meet four times in a month so that government’s mandate can be effectively implemented for betterment of people. well and it resulted into loss of employment opportunities and earning of revenues for the state. The CM also suggested the engineers and the companies to strengthen their efforts for additional oil exploration activities in the region. Notably, Gehlot also thanked both Vedanta Ltd and Cairn Energy for launching the new CSR project titled, ‘Ujjawal.’ Under this project, digital education would be provided to children in 60 selected government schools by enhancing infrastructure and other facilities in the campuses. Gehlot said that Cairn started oil production in Mangla field ten years ago and that the region is playing a major role by producing the most crude oil and gas.
