THE G20 AND G MINOR
100%. This is precisely what is happening today, as a chip shortage has disrupted the global car industry, leading to sharp price increases.
We could call this proposed group G Minor. While the G20 represents the world’s largest economies, the G Minor would represent the needs of emerging and developing countries that lack the diplomatic and military clout required to protect their interests on their own. Forming such a group would be an admirable gesture of inclusion, enabling India to make its mark on the G20 and achieve a more just international order
In December, India began its yearlong G20 presidency, taking over from Indonesia amid rising geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. Surging inflation has raised the specter of a global recession. Supply chains, made more efficient but also more vulnerable by globalization and the digital revolution, are crumbling under the weight of COVID-related disruptions and the war in Ukraine, both of which have revealed and deepened the fault lines of the international order.

During the Great Recession of 2008-09, the G20 arguably helped to prevent a worse crisis by persuading the world’s biggest economies to coordinate their fiscal and monetary policies. With the global economy at a critical juncture, following decades of relentless globalization that have made
markets increasingly interconnected, the group could once again play this role.
To confront the looming global crisis, G20 countries must, first and foremost, coordinate macroeconomic policies. During and after the Great Recession, developed economies attempted to boost growth by keeping interest rates at or close to zero – or even negative. While this was necessary, ultralow rates soon became a trap, preventing countries that wanted to raise interest rates from doing so, lest their currencies appreciate and their exports decline.
The COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the spike in inflation have freed the world’s largest economies from the low-interest-rate trap. But this transition could have been less painful had governments coordinated their macroeconomic policies. With the global economy on the verge of recession, the G20 must provide leadership on this issue and help policymakers avoid their predecessors’ mistakes.
These intricate produc-

COVID-19 AND UKRAINE WAR SHOWS THAT EVERY CRISIS LIKELY TO HAVE DISPROPORTIONATE ECONOMIC EFFECTS
The pandemic and the war in Ukraine have also shown that in our globalized, interlinked world, every crisis is likely to have disproportionate economic effects. In a standard oligopoly, as described by the nineteenth-century economist Augustin Cournot, a few firms produce the same good, but this is no longer the case. For example, cars had once been produced in their entirety by a single manufacturer. Today, however, many firms manufacture the different parts separately – one company makes the chassis, another the wheels, and so on – creating what I have called a vertically serrated industry.

THE “THIRD PARTY INTERFERENCE”
Concern over the Union law ministry’s continued intransigence towards the collegium system was creating the perception that there is something more to the government’s stance than what meets the eye has now been expressed by the Supreme Court. The perception which the statements of some of those in high constitutional positions created was strong enough to prompt Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to allege that the government was “a calculated attempt to delegitimize judiciary”. The remark was objected to by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Not just Sonia Gandhi

A vertically serrated industry could also be weaponized. Governments could, for example, threaten to shut down production of a critical component, such as computer chips, knowing that this would bring global production to a halt. Some policymakers, like US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, have touted friendshoring, whereby countries like the United States intend to reduce their reliance on geopolitical rivals by limiting the sources of critical goods to a few trusted allies. But this approach could further exacerbate tensions and push the world closer to a disastrous war. Instead, the world’s superpowers must commit to avoiding such tactics. The G20 could play a central role in facilitating tense negotiations, designing international agreements, and overseeing coordination strategies.
But first, G20 countries must overcome their tendency to favor the interests of major economies. The pandemic, during which lower-income countries were deprived of access to vaccines due to hoarding by developed economies, has highlighted the need for global solidarity. As a 2020 letter to the G20 written by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and others noted, the group could provide the sort of coordinated global leadership needed to address health disparities between the Global North and South.
But even beyond the pandemic, emerging and developing economies, particularly in Africa and the Pacific, often find themselves at the mercy of major powers, their prosperity contingent upon election outcomes in developed countries. This year, the G20 could take a giant step forward by enabling several smaller countries to participate in its deliberations and make their voices heard.

The number of incidents of Maoist violence in the country declined from 2,258 in 2009 to 509 in 2021, the Union Minister said.
The BJP leader also lashed out at the Congress government in the state, saying that the only progress during its tenure has been an increase in crime and corruption.
As per the sources, this time the BJP has made a strategy to focus more on the lost seats.
In this sequence, Amit Shah’s meeting is the first in Chaibasa. After that preparations are on to hold a similar meeting in the palace of Santhal Pargana. BJP is trying its best to con-

There are a total of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state of Jharkhand, out of which the Jharkhand NDA formed by joining BJP and AJSU had won 12 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. AJSU had won one seat in Giridih.

Poonawala was produced before the court through video conference. “I am giving four days judicial custody. Accused will be produced before me physically on January 10,” Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla said. Meanwhile, Poonawala’s advocate MS Khan moved an application for the release of his debit and credit cards, which were earlier seized by the police. Khan said Poonawala was facing a harsh winter inside jail without adequate clothes to wear.
Palghar (PTI): A court in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Saturday adjourned till January 9 the hearing of the bail application of actor Sheezan Khan, arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of co-star Tunisha Sharma. The court deferred the hearing after the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police submitted they had not been able to record the statement of Tunisha’s mother Vanita Sharma as she was busy with post-death rituals and sought time till January 13 to put up their stand on Khan’s bail application. BJP candidates were victorious on 11 seats.
BJP candidate and former CM Arjun Munda won the Khunti seat by a very small margin.
From 2014, the BJP started dismantling the
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) stronghold, which continued in 2019 as well. Kamal had captured JMM’s traditional seats like Dumka and Godda.
Only one seat of Santhal Pargana Rajmahal went to JMM’s account.

Amit Shah in Jharkhand
West Singhbhum (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a visit to Jharkhand, on Saturday lambasted Hemant Soren-led JMM government and said intruders are forcefully marrying tribal girls in the state and grabbing their land.
Addressing a public meeting in Chaibasa, Shah said, “The Chief Minister (Hemant Soren) of the state is a tribal, but this government is anti-tribal. During their tenure, corruption has been in its peak. The era of middlemen and grabbers of tribal land is back.” Shah slammed the Hemant Soren government for allegedly ignoring the tribal welfare for the sake of vote bank
politics. “Intruders are forcefully marrying tribal girls and grabbing their land. I warn the Hemant Soren government today, to stop this audacity by intruders. Otherwise, the people of Jharkhand will not forgive you. The greed for vote bank cannot be bigger than tribal welfare,” Shah said.

Strong resentment against government in Joshimath for ignoring warnings

Coimbatore (PTI): Listing out various schemes implemented during AIADMK regime for Coimbatore, former Minister and AIADMK Whip SP Velumani on Friday demanded the DMK government to come out with the number of schemes announced for the district in the last 20 months.
Addressing a demonstration organised by the party against the hike in the prices of property tax, milk and power tariff in Tamil Nadu, Velumani said that the AIADMK government had identified bad roads and floated tenders for 500 roads, which were cancelled immediately after DMK came to power.
Projects were taken up for renovating ponds in Ukkadam and Kurichy area in the city, when he was the Minister, but the DMK government had put them on back burner, he alleged.
Strong resentment prevails among people here against the government for the indifference with which it treated the warnings about a dangerous situation of buildings in the Himalayan town due to heavy construction activities going on around it. They hold the NTPC’s Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project mainly responsible for the situation. “We have been drawing the attention of authorities for the past 14 months. But we were not heeded. Now when the situation is getting out of hand, they are sending expert teams to assess things,” Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti convenor Atul Sati said.
“If attention was paid in time to what we were saying things would not have been so alarming in Joshimath,” he added.
Land subsidence had made the houses of 14 families insecure in November 2021 itself, Sati recalls.

TRF issues new ‘hit list’ against Kashmiri Pandits
New Delhi (Agencies):
A day after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned The Resistance Front (TRF), the terror outfit on Saturday warned of terror attacks on people whose names it has released on the “hit list”.
After being exposed, the TRF wants to portray itself as a local terror group while in reality it is an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar e Taiba.
TRF, a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-eTaiba, was on Thursday declared a banned organisation.

attention is on Rahul Gandhi because he is the most visible, prominent and dynamic face of the yatra. But this is not meant for an individual, this is not meant to project him as a prime ministerial candidate,” he said.

Flanked by former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Ramesh said the yatra is meant to “ideologically combat the RSS and the BJP”.
“Rahul Gandhi has raised three big issues during the Yatra — economic inequality, social polarisation and political authoritarianism. He is raising these issues everyday during his walking interactions, his talking interactions, in his corner speeches, in his rallies.
Cong, RSS delegations meet terror victims’ families in J&K’s Rajouri

The RSS delegation too demanded a probe into the disarming of village defence committee (VDC) members without any government order. “The co-ordination between
the Indian Army and the police needs to be stepped up with enhanced vigilance to prevent loss of innocent lives. This (Dhangri incident) is an example of governance and administrative failure in full measure,” Nath, an ad-

India attaining Presidency of G20, becoming fifth biggest economy of the world, rapid registration of new startups, foray of private players in space sector, launch of National Logistics Policy, approval of National Green Hydrogen Mission, among others. He underlined that states and centre should work together and scale up the speed of progress.
The Prime Minister said that in order to
build a developed India, the country is focussing on four pillars of infrastructure, investment, innovation and inclu-
sion. He said that today, entire world is reposing its faith in India and we are being looked up as a country that can bring
stability to the global supply chain. He said that the country will be able to take full advantage of this only if states take lead, maintaining focus on quality and taking decisions with an India-first approach. He added that states should focus on pro-development governance, ease of doing business, ease of living and provision of robust infrastructure.
Launching the Aspirational Block Pro-
gramme, PM Modi underscored the success achieved in various Aspirational Districts in the country under the Aspirational District Program. He added that the Aspirational District model should now be taken up to block level in the form of the Aspirational Block Programme. He asked the officials present in the meeting to implement the Aspirational Block Programme in their respective states.

The new year has brought a new ray of hope for many politicians, especially for those who were waiting for their turn on the political pitch since the new year.
Trusted sources reveal that ‘this reshuffle of the Modi cabinet can happen anytime before the budget session i.e. between January 15 and 31. Before this, the BJP’s national executive meeting is being held on January 16-17. It is believed that in this, the extension of the term of the party’s national president JP Nadda can also be approved. Actually, the Sangh wants that at least till the 2024 general elections, the reins of the party should remain with Nadda. Notably, Nadda’s term is going to end on January 20. Sources reveal that 12 new ministers can be made at the centre and NDA allies are also going to get enough space in this expansion. For

example, a ministerial berth for Chirag Paswan of LJP is considered to be confirmed. The Akali Dal, which was crushed by the farmer’s movement, is also returning to the NDA fold and Harsimrat Kaur can again become a minister. Of the 12 Shiv Sena MPs who had joined the Shinde faction, any one could be made a minister. Piyush Goyal may again get the responsibility of Railway Ministry. The unprecedented support received by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in UP indicates that this time Rahul will again contest from Amethi and BJP has no trump card other than Smriti Irani to give him a fight. Thus, her ministerial chair is believed to be safe for the time being. States like Karnataka and Kerala may also get representation in the cabinet.
There are speculations that Narendra Singh Tomar will be dropped, perhaps owing to the ill handling of farmer agitation.
Do you remember American billionaire Darshan Singh Dhaliwal, who was stopped right after landing at Delhi airport from America on 23 October 2021 during the ongoing farmer’s movement in India. Indian agencies had interrogated him strictly at the airport and then from the airport itself, he was forced to board the flight back to America. Dhaliwal was accused of funding the langar of the farmer’s movement going on at the Delhi border. Dhaliwal has more than two thousand gas stations in America, his earnings are also immense. He is said to have a very personal relationship with the Badal family. When the Badalled Akali Dal government was in power in Punjab, Darshan Singh’s younger brother Surjit Singh Rakhra was a minister in that government. Dhaliwal also has a very personal relationship with Captain Amarinder Singh. When he was sent back from Delhi airport in 21, Parkash Singh Badal himself spoke to PM Modi about this and informed him about Dhaliwal’s charitable work, even during the 2004 Tsunami period, Dhaliwal helped common Indians through financial aid. It is said that India’s Ambassador to America Taranjit Singh Sandhu has also played an important role in persuading Dhaliwal. So, Dhaliwal’s name is surprisingly included in the list of 27 NRIs who have been honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman this year. Dhaliwal has also termed PM Modi as the best PM of the world now.
In the 9 assembly elections to be held in 2023 (Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura) and the 2024 general elections, the BJP is going to place a big bet on ‘Vistaraks’. Gujarat state president CR Patil showed its most successful use in the Gujarat assembly elections held last year. Inspired by Patil’s strategies, BJP is taking inspiration for the upcoming elections in these 9 states. Under which one vistarak is being appointed in every assembly constituency. This vistarak can be a former MP or MLA of the party or a senior office bearer of the party and the onus of securing victory on the said seat will also be that of the vistarak. The party is raising a large army of Vistaars across the country, this will also reduce the party’s dependence on the Sangh and these Vistaraks are proving to be the eyes, ears and nose of the party.
The work of delimitation and finalisation of electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir has been completed. So, in such a situation, the implications of the statement of Tarun Chugh, BJP in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir, can be far reaching as he said that ‘when the snow of the litigants melts in May, then there can be an atmosphere of elections.’ Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra concludes in Kashmir and National Conference and PDP are participating in the concluding phase. Thus Congress has made it clear that in the upcoming elections of Jammu and Kashmir, it will be in an alliance with National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP. On the other hand, the BJP intends to contest the polls alone in the elections.

17 leaders of Ghulam Nabi’s Democratic Azad Party have already joined Congress, so now Ghulam Nabi is not getting any interest from BJP. When Jammu had 37 seats, the BJP won 25 of these. The seats in Jammu have increased to 43 in the new delimitation, BJP intends to win all these seats. At the same time, 9 seats are reserved for ST i.e. Van Gurjar, out of which
It is really a matter of deep investigation that why the Sangh leaders, who have always been attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on social media and public forums, have changed their stand on Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra? General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra - Champat Rai - and Trust Treasurer - Govind Dev Giri - have praised Rahul, and welcomed the yatra.

Satyendra Das, the chief priest of Ramlala temple, has written a letter to Rahul, appreciating his Bharat Jodo Yatra and giving him his best wishes. At the same time, BJP’s rebel Sadhvi Uma Bharti also openly said that devotion to Lord Ram and Hanuman ji is not the copyright of BJP.
The Sangh has made it clear in a way that the basic agenda of the Sangh is ‘Sarvajan Hitaya Sarvajan Sukhay’, that is, any leader who will talk about the interest of Hindus and the interest of the country, he will definitely get the support of the Sangh and its subsidiary organisations.

Jaipur (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday slammed former Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh for terming the move to bring back the Old Pension Scheme as “absurd move” pointing out that serving employees have the right to feel secure too.

Gehlot’s remarks came over Ahluwalia’s remark that the move by certain opposition-ruled state govts to bring back the Old Pension Scheme was an “absurd idea”
and a “recipe for financial bankruptcy”.
“If the country can have OPS for 60 years and etire an employee with pension, can’t a serving employee has the right to feel secure
too?” Gehlot told reporters here.
Ahluwalia had cautioned state governments that bringing back the OPS could be a regressive step and lead to financial insolvency.

7 seats are in Kashmir Valley. BJP is also eyeing these reserved seats. Under this strategy, BJP has nominated Gulab Ali Khatana of Gurjar Bakarwal community to Rajya Sabha and he can also be made a minister in the center in the coming days. BJP’s alliance can also take shape with Sajjad Lone’s party. Anyway, BJP wants to make Jitendra Singh the Hindu CM of Jammu and Kashmir. This could prove to be Modi’s master stroke for 2024 for Modi. The issue of PoK’s merger with Kashmir is now in cold storage, because China is eyeing India on this issue, as China’s Silk Route passes through there.

Choose a figure-hugging LBD with an animal design, and wear sunglasses with it. The dress with the animal print will appear stylish, seductive and hot. It would look wonderful with unkempt hair and winged eyeliner. Add heels or flats to complete your look.

The 1st day of JFM got only bigger and better with famous Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre gracing the occasion.
Sharing her views on the Challenges of Filmmaking from Women’s & Men’s Perspectives, Sonali said, “From when I started my career, the stories

With digital platforms coming in, offering people to share their stories in so many ways and places, the times have changed. We have come a long way. More women are stepping in across all kinds of work from makeup artist to technician to DOP etc.” cityfirst@firstindia.co.in

The grand book launch of the book titled ‘Dulha Rai’s Conquest of Dausa: The early history of Kachwahas’ written by Devraj Singh, a member of the erstwhile royal family of Jaipur and grandson of the Late Gayatri Devi took place at the Durbar Hall of Jaimahal recently. The book gives an informative and interesting read on the life and times of the legendary ‘bridegroom prince’, Dulha Rai. The inception of the kingdom of Dhundhar (later the princely state of Jaipur) is ascribed to Dulha Rai, who is remembered as the progenitor of the Kachwaha dynasty of Rajputana. His career and rise to power are deeply linked with the district of Dausa and its principal seat of power, the enigmatic Dausa Fort.
