evolutionary, political leader and philanthropist, the former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela had once said, “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.” And it is perhaps this is the reason that the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, always stressed on the betterment of children in every field, from health to education since he realised that today’s children are the future political leaders of the nation who will shape its course. When a person reaches the zenith in their field, it becomes increasingly
difficult for them to stay grounded, but perhaps Nehru found himself humbled in the presence of children, a reason all the more for the future generations to observe Children’s Day on 14th November, in memory of the undying spirit and resolve of Nehru towards Children. Nehru’s thought have reverberated across decades with successive generations not only influencing our leaders of today but even foreign leaders like Mandela. And it is thus that a stalwart of Rajasthan and three time chief minister Ashok Gehlot has appealed to the people to take oath to end child labour on this Diwali, thereby taking forward the message given to us by one of the founding fathers of our nation, Chacha Nehru...
