TIGHT RACE FOR PLAYOFFS ENSURES THRILLING FINALE TO IPL 2023

All of them have to win all their games and also make sure that they push their net run rates higher.

Amidst them, Punjab Kings have the brightest chance to make the playoffs though Delhi Capitals is in with a chance technically but these teams have to hope for other teams’ results to go their way too. Whoever it might be in the final 4 but this season has already lived up to fans’ expectations and they will hope the last flourish is a cherry on top for everyone!

ASIPL 2023 moves to its final phase with barely a fortnight remaining in the competition, the fight for the top 4 spots has intensified even more. Till now, no team has sealed its berth for the playoffs, though, at the time of writing, Gujarat Titans are at the top of the points table and are going head on with the newly charged Mumbai Indians. If Gujarat wins, it will make it the first team to qualify for the knockouts and with all 10 teams, including Delhi Capitals after their loss to Chennai Super Kings, still in fray for the playoffs, we look at the various qualification scenarios for each team.

ABOUT THE GAME

While this season of IPL has seen some amazing power hitting and a string of 200 plus team totals, it is the team that has 2 bowlers in the top 3 that is leading the points table. Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami have contributed immensely to Gujarat Titans’ spirited defense of their title this year. Their 8 wins out of 11 matches means they need just a win in the next 3 matches to enter the playoff comfortably but should they lose all their remaining games,

As IPL 2023 moves to its final phase with barely a fortnight remaining in the competition, the fight for the top 4 spots has intensified even more. Till now, no team has sealed its berth for the playoffs, though, at the time of writing, GT are at the top of the points table and are going head on with the newly charged MI

they might slip to the 4th spot and then, only a net run rate will decide their future progress.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

Chennai Super Kings is at the second spot in the points tally and have turned the tables around since the last season. They were at the 9th position in the 2022 season, but are now just one win away from qualifying for the playoffs. They have 15 points from 12 games and have been led excellently by their legendary captain – MS Dhoni. His attacking stint at the lower order has been pivotal for Chennai’s success this year and the team will look to add another IPL trophy in its cabinet in what could be Dhoni’s final IPL of his playing career.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

After a terrific start, Rajasthan Royals have stumbled their way and lost 3 matches in succession before their big win against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday. Their Knight-inshining-armour Yashasvi Jaiswal missed a century against Kolkata but he will be hoping to top the batting charts this season and thereby help his side into the knockout round. Rajasthan is currently at number three on the points table and 2 wins in their next 2 matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings will see them through to the next stage.

MUMBAI INDIANS

Next on the points table is Mumbai Indians who have stormed into the top 4 from bottom half of the table. Although Rohit Sharma is yet to hit form, MI are peaking at the right time and must be hoping for the ‘law of averages’ to turn in Rohit’s favor especially with the crucial matches ahead. Since they have 12 points from 11 games, 3 consecutive wins could make them qualify in the top 2. However, even 2 wins in the next 3 games can easily carry them to the playoffs stage.

LAST YEAR’S TOP 4 TEAMS

Among last year’s top 4 teams after the league matches, Lucknow began well this year too but injury to their captain KL Rahul has derailed their cam-

paign to an extent. Mumbai’s win against Bangalore saw Lucknow slip from to number 5 in the points table and they now have an arduous task of winning all their remaining matches to make it to the knockouts. What is heartening is that their net run rate is currently superior to Mumbai Indians.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS

BANGALORE

Even with a purple cap holder in the ranks, Royal Challengers Bangalore has failed to create magic and have 10 points with 3 matches to go. Even with wins in all remaining matches, the sixth placed RR might require a strong net run rate to qualify for the playoffs especially as they have tough duels ahead in away games against Gujarat, Hyderabad and Rajasthan.

LAST 4 TEAMS ON POINTS TABLE

The situation gets complicated for the last 4 teams on the points table. Kolkata, Punjab, Hyderabad and Delhi are in 7th, 8th ,9th and 10th position respectively.

TOMBOY CHIC A FRESH TAKE ON FASHION

Tomboy fashion is a style that has been gaining popularity in recent years, breaking away from traditional feminine aesthetics and

dent and empowered in what you wear. One of the key elements of tomboy fashion is the use of masculine clothing pieces, such as oversized blazers, boxy tshirts, and slouchy jeans. These pieces are often paired with more feminine accessories, such as delicate jewellery or statement shoes, to create a balanced and unique look. The contrast between masculine and feminine elements creates a strong and edgy aesthetic, while also allowing for versatility and individual expression. Another important aspect of tomboy fashion is the emphasis on functionality. Tomboy style is all about practicality and comfort, so clothing is often designed with a purpose in mind. For example, cargo pants with multiple pockets, or sturdy boots that are comfortable for all-day wear. The focus on functionality allows for a seamless transition between work and play, and encourages the wearer

to feel confident and capable in any situation. One of the most empowering aspects of tomboy fashion is the way it challenges traditional gender roles and stereotypes. By breaking away from the notion that women must always dress in a feminine and delicate way, tomboy fashion creates a space for self-expression and individuality.

It allows women to embrace their own unique style and personality, without conforming to societal expectations. Overall, tomboy fashion is a style that is both practical and empowering. It offers women the opportunity to express themselves in a way that feels authentic and comfortable, while also challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes. Whether you’re dressing for a casual day out or a professional work environment, tomboy fashion is a versatile and stylish option that is sure to make a statement.

Ageing with Dignity and Dynamism: EMBRACING CHANGES A

s humans, we are all going to age, and it’s something that is inevitable. Many people associate ageing with negative thoughts and feelings, such as a loss of youthfulness or a decrease in physical abilities. However, ageing should not be kept as a parameter for categorization or treated as a sort of pigeonhole or a label, can also bring positive changes and opportunities that we might not have had earlier in life. Ageing with grace and zing is about embracing the process of getting older and making the most of the experiences that come with it rather than tending to lose our zeal to live life to the fullest. Though many elderly people in our surroundings tend to get more complacent and comfortable with life; however, that is not the case with many more such exemplary spirits who are inspirational for all and sundry.

from several countries.

Yasmin Sait is an author who has three decades of experience in the retail and entertainment industry, embarked on a journey at this phase of life as an author writing her first book 'Manan' which is a torchbearer for exploring selves. Her smiling and bubbly face gives energy to many youngsters and direction to delve deeper into their own selves. Lines of the novel 'Winter' by Scottish author, Ali Smith “you never stop being yourself on the inside, whatever age people think you are by looking at you from the outside,” ipso facto fits here on Yasmin’s person-

and its responsibilities.

Moreover, women have to deal with other issues like menopause, health issues, and societal perceptions. Menopause is a biological process that happens to every woman, and it is often looked down upon, but many women including social workers, academicians and doctors are spreading awareness about menopause, self-care, and the importance of seeking medical help and support in this phase of life.

The women also deal with health issues that come with age, such as arthritis, diabetes, and osteoporosis, with support from family and friends. They

community. To add, Yasmin says that positive reinforcement and transformation while ageing is something which is possible only when "such exercises are periodically carried out, at each crossroad of life" like indulging yourself in fruitful hobbies or social activities keeping your mental and physical health at priority are inculcated timely.

Ageing with grace and activeness is about embracing the changes that come with getting older and making the most of what life has to offer. This means focusing on physical, social, and emotional wellbeing, and embracing new experiences and

and effervescent to fulfil their lives goals.

Another name to quote, Neeru Saini from Chandigarh is a fitness freak, motivator, traveller, trekker, biker, dancer, and science teacher. Watching her dance videos and lively shots of the trekking spirit on Instagram where she dances with 3/4 of her age boys and mesmerizes with her performances at the age of 58. Therefore, these illustrative Indian women are role models for everyone on how to age with grace, positivity, and dignity. They are showing that age is just a number, and it is never too late to learn new skills, travel, engage in social work, and maintain an active lifestyle. These women are breaking stereotypes and societal perceptions, and they are an inspiration to all and directly or indirectly teach us what to do when we grow old.

it tions make it even

Ageing is a natural process, and it is essential that we embrace it gracefully. However, societal norms and expectations make it even more challenging for women to age with dignity and dynamism. Women are often judged based on their appearance, and societal pressures force them to hide their age or even go through cosmetic procedures to maintain their youth. But, nowadays many Indian women crossing or already crossed the borderline of fifty refuse to conform to these norms. These evangelist women are an exquisite example of ageing with grace, dignity, and positivity, indulging in various activities and dealing with several other issues.

Embracing their age and continuing to live their lives to the fullest, these women exude confidence and happiness.

They have not let age hold them back and are indulging in various activities like outdoor sports, travelling, writing, dancing, trekking, learning new skills, and engaging themselves in social work. Here are a few examples of such women. Beena Sarwar is a journalist, artist, media trainer and documentary filmmaker.

She runs Sapan News Network to anchor the higher goal of ensuring peace and solidarity in South Asia, bringing many journalists and writers to the platform

ality when she has crossed the boundary line of sixty and the kind of lesson for finding life purpose, she yearns and exerts to deliver and proffer through the journeys of nine such fifty-five plus women from different fields and professions and their anecdotes which she has craftily woven in her book Manan for inspiring many more lives.

Yasmin talks about the relevance of her book Manan "for women, who go through a myriad of changes, biological, emotional, economic and in role plays during their journey of life." Though we all know that women have to face several issues in their lives from

are taking precautions to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle to keep these health issues at bay. They are also proactive in seeking medical help and advice to manage their health issues.

Another issue that 50plus Indian women are dealing with is societal perceptions. Society often perceives ageing women as someone who are past their prime, and their opinions and contributions are not valued. However, these women are breaking stereotypes and showing that age is just a number. They are actively engaging in social work, contributing to society, and giving back to the

opportunities. By keeping an open mind and maintaining a positive outlook, we can age with grace and dynamism, and enjoy a rich and fulfilling life at any age.

The zeal and enthusiasm of a 67 years old retired government school lecturer from Rajasthan, Smt. Santosh Kumari is extraordinarily exuberant. In a conversation with her, she shared her worries that the youth of the nation is ironically indulging in the wrong usage of electronic devices and social media which is injurious to their physical and mental growth. She gives a message for the youth to keep on doing 'Kar-

Staying active is one of the key elements of ageing with elegance and strength hence physical activity can help with maintaining strength and flexibility in the body, and can also contribute to mental wellbeing. Engaging in exercise and other physical activities can have a significant impact on reducing the risk of developing certain health conditions, such as heart disease or diabetes. In addition to physical activity, it's important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Eating a nutrientrich diet that is high in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins can help support a healthy body.

Another essential part of ageing gracefully and dynamically is maintaining social connections. Maintaining relationships with friends and family members can provide emotional support and prevent feelings of loneliness or isolation. Finally, when it comes to ageing with grace and dynamism, it's important to understand that it's not just about physical health but emotional and mental health as well. Maintaining a positive mindset, engaging in activities that bring joy, and taking time to self-reflect can help maintain a healthy emotional state. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep breathing, can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

PRIORITIZING KNOWLEDGE OVER MARKS

What’s that shadow on the horizon? It’s the sudden realisation that Results Day is here, and the fear is real.

Argh, Exam Results ahoy!

The majority of students, who were happy and satisfied with school life, said their “good feelings” for education declined as they moved to the secondary stage of their academic career, according to a NCERT study on ‘Mental Health and Well-being of School

Students’ of 3. 8 lakh students from 36 states and Union territories. The study also revealed that studies, examinations and results were the major causes of anxiety among students. However, with many emotions flying around on Friday, no wonder it felt like a whirlwind.

For the past week, students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have anxiously awaited the announcement of their board examination results. On Friday, the wait came to an end as the results for Class 12 and 10 were finally released. The announcement of the results also caused CBSE to trend on Twitter, prompting a slew of humorous reactions and memes related to the board results. Even if your results weren’t quite what you were expecting, don’t forget you always have a Plan B. Go on, give yourself a bit pat on the back!

City First spoke to a few meritorious students who believe that their stories of success were anchored to their passion for the subjects!

The journey of the past academic year was not easy, but it was worth it. I put in countless hours of hard work and dedication to make sure I achieved my goals. I spent long hours studying, revising and practising every topic and subject I learned in class. It was a tough journey, but I never gave up. I am thrilled to have secured 85 per cent in my Class 10 board examinations. I am now looking forward to the next chapter of my academic journey with confidence and excitement.

I got 93% in 10th. I am satisfied and very happy to see my result. This result motivated and encouraged me to overcome upcoming challenges in my life and the courage to fulfil my dream to become an IAS officer. I'd like to extend my deepest gratitude to my parents and teachers for the constant support and guidance.

Achieving 97% in 12th boards is an accomplishment for me, a result of a great deal of hard work and dedication on my part. I have spent countless hours studying, attending classes, and seeking guidance from my teachers and mentors. I have sacrificed social events and personal time to focus on my studies, and it is all paid off. I am grateful for the support and encouragement of my family and friends throughout this journey. Their unwavering belief in my abilities has motivated me to strive for excellence. I am planning to pursue BMM from some renowned universities across India and am eager to continue my academic journey with the same level of enthusiasm and commitment.

The sudden declaration of the result after waiting for days came as a surprise. I felt content after seeing my hard work pay off fruitfully. I feel more than satisfied with my grades in Accountancy and Physical Education. However, I think I should have put more effort into Applied Maths and Business Studies to make the result more balanced. Looking at my Accountancy marks, I feel gratified. Overall, I’m happy with my result.

—ASTHA PRAJAPAT, Brightlands Girls Sr. Sec School

I had a great experience in my class 12th and I am very happy with my result. I would pursue my dream of becoming a computer science engineer in my future and try my best to score better marks and to achieve my goals ahead.

I had a great experience in my class 10th and I am very happy with my result. I would pursue my dream to become a doctor in my future and try hard to become a better version of myself

—ADITYA GANGWANI, Malviya Convent School

The academic year that has passed was challenging, but it has been rewarding. I obtained a score of 90% in my 10th CBSE board exams, which has made all my hard work and dedication worth it. I invested numerous hours of studying, revising and practising every topic and subject I learned in class. Though the journey was challenging, I persevered and never gave up.

I guess the greatest thing I have achieved after being a topper is extreme happiness as the result of the hard work and guidance of my teachers. I am grateful to my parents and my family members as well for their support and motivation.

JOURNEY OF BEING AN ENGINEER TO A PAN INDIA STAR

ASHISH TIWARI cityfirst@firstindia.co.in

The one who is a hero in Real and Reel life, humble, down-to-earth, amazing journey from being an engineer to Pan India Star. That is none other than Tovino Thomas.

Ashish Tiwari recently interviewed Tovino Thomas and asked him about his experience in his upcoming movie, being so humble, and other things.

Your tagline in the upcoming movie 2018 is ‘Everyone is a hero’, but in Real life, you rescued everyone in Kerala so, in short, you are showing your real character in the movie to your audience. How was the whole experience there?

I’m not someone who has done a lot for our state. There are people who went on and rescued operations and relief activities 10th times or 100

times or 1000 times more. As I’m an actor people came to know that, that’s it. I don’t want to claim the credit for that. While I was doing whatever is possible within my limits almost 90% of the people in Kerala were doing the same thing. But yes, in my hometown I tried and did my best so did the youngest in my hometown. It was a group of people who stood together and did whatever was possible within their limits.

Did you expect this type of reaction when were making the film did you think that the audience will like it so much, you're not getting a positive response only from the audience but also from the industry everywhere?

So I expected at least 50% of this response but this is way beyond our expectations people maybe because people could relate so much because what we have shown in this movie is pure basic human

emotions and people from Kerala or people from all over the world, who has been affected by the floods or who has been people who was affected by the floods or who knows the stories of people who was affected by the floods, who has seen the visuals of people affected by the floods, all those people can relate to it even move but even if you don’t have any experience about the floods when you watch the movie it’s basic human emotions you’ll get a hook to it.

You come from a very humble background. You did engineering and did a job as well, you started as a character actor, then as the antagonist, then as a superhero, and how a superstar, a global, a Pan India Star. How do you see the whole journey and what would like to say to your fans?

I’m from a normal, small town and my family is very fond of movies, nobody

worked in movies but everyone loved watching movies and I grew up in that background and I wanted to be part of movies and that was my dream and I tried, I worked hard for it even now I don’t relax I keep on working hard because this is something that I love with my whole heart and maybe like what we have read in Alchemist when you desire something with your full heart the universe conspires for you and right now I’m living my dream so anyone who has any dream just knows that if Tovino Thomas from a very small town from a middleclass family can live his dream anyone can.

It is remarkable how far the Kannada film industry has come thanks to Kanthara, KGF, and RRR in Telugu. Now as we see 2018 has been receiving a superb response and your next film ARM is expected to have a huge effect

as well. What are your thoughts on this?

I don’t know about that but we have put in our maximum 100% effort to make that movie the best in our, all of our filmography, and far as I know the film has come out really well and the post-production is going on if we are able to release it in a very good way if we are able to promote it and release it and if we can make sure that it reaches to every nook encounter of India or every nook encounter of the world then I think the movie is going to do really well.
