New Delhi: Cyclonic Storm Mocha, which was touted to be “severe”, has weakened into a depression hours after it made landfall and killed at least three in Myanmar Sunday.

According to the IMD, the cyclonic storm weakened near the north-northeast of Nyaung-U (Myanmar) and Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and was predicted to continue the trend for the next few hours.

Disaster Management Force personnel have been keeping a watch on the sea resort towns of West Bengal while preventing tourists from going to the beach, PTI reported. Tripura too made arrangements by setting up disaster management control rooms and deploying paramilitary forces, NDRF and civil defence personnel for emergencies.

RAINFALL IN 3 STATES

I n the wake of Cyclone Mocha, the IMD has issued an Orange alert for heavy rainfall in parts of northeast India, including, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland on Monday. The cyclonic storm Mocha was predicted to take a toll in Mizoram, Manipur, east central Bay of Bengal and north east Bay of Bengal with high-speed winds reaching around 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph.

HEAVY RAIN LASHES KOLKATA; 12 FLIGHTS DELAYED, 6 DIVERTED

K olkata experienced a squall that brought strong winds with max gusts reaching 84 kmph. The squall lasted for approximately three minutes and was accompanied by heavy rainfall that persisted for around half an hour. The impact of the squall was evident as numerous trees were uprooted. Six flights were diverted and at least 12 flights had a delayed take-off owing to the storm and heavy rain.
