MODI STORM IN SYDNEY HOUSEFULL

AJAY KUMAR

MODI, MODI, MODI….. as the chants reverberated through Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, revered and cherished ‘Rockstar’, Bruce Springsteen benignantly relinquished his hardearned title, “The Boss” to the leader of the most populace democracy in the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 20,000 plus packed Qudos Bank Arena, rocked like never before. A scene, I vividly remember off the Madison Square Stadium in New York, when surpassing any Rockstar, Basket Ball Zeus or a Poseidon — stood tall on the central stadia - the man, the vision, the dream – ‘Rockstar’ Narendra Modi. Nine years hence, it is the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, who summed it all — “The last time I saw someone

on this stage was Bruce Springsteen and he did not get the welcome that Prime Minister Modi has got. Prime Minister Modi is ‘The Boss’.” Charisma or Enigma, call it what one may – such is the attraction of the galvanised aura of PM Modi, that the American President Biden had to benignly concede, “I must seek your autograph, we are all, but sold out for the state banquet to hosted upon your arrival at the Capitol”. Jestingly spoken words at times carry more weight than diplomatically crated sentences, in the international arena. And to cap this International crazy — frenzy — mania, the humble feet-touching gesture by Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea at the airport, breaking all established protocol — foretells the appeal of Brand Modi intertwined with the glory of the nation — India.

MODI PLAYS CRUCIAL ROLE AT STRATEGIC PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his trip exceedingly well and astutely as usual when he told the head of state of 14 Pacific island nations two days ago that India can be considered to be a “reliable” development partner and even those considered trustworthy were “not standing by our sides in times of need.” Did he make an oblique reference to the Asian Giant, China?

Elaborating further, PM Modi said at the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) summit in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, that “Those we considered trustworthy, it turned out they were not standing by our side in times of need. During these challenging times, an old saying has proven true: ‘A Friend in need is a friend indeed’. I am glad that India stood with its Pacific Island friends during this challenging time (the Covid pandemic). Whether it was vaccines or essential medicines, wheat or sugar; India, in line with its capabilities, has been assisting all partner countries.”

Even as Papua New Guinea does not accord ceremonial welcome to any leader coming in after sunset, an exception was made for PM Modi. Not only that, Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape, while welcoming PM Modi, touched his feet in a move that drew huge limelight. Modi is also the first Indian PM to visit the country.

IN THE CURRENT CONTEXT, WHY IS PAPUA NEW GUINEA IMPORTANT FOR INDIA?

A LOOK AT PNG...

From the 1880s, parts of the country were ruled by Germany, Australia, and Britain, till the independent nation was born on September 16, 1975. Papua New Guinea is part of the Commonwealth, and England’s King Charles III is its official King.

The monarch is represented by the Governor-General, who is nominated by the Parliament. The Prime Minister is democratically elected. James Marape is the current Prime Minister and the GovernorGeneral is Bob Dadae. PM Modi also met him during his recent visit

THE US DEAL

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said a defence cooperation pact inked with Papua New Guinea on Monday would expand the Pacific Island nation’s capabilities and make it easier for the US military to train with its forces.

Blinken and PM Modi held separate meetings with 14 Pacific Island leaders in the PNG capital Port Moresby, pledging support for the region’s priorities of health, development and climate change.

The United States and its allies are seeking to deter Pacific Island nations from forming security ties with China, a rising concern amid tension over Taiwan, and moreover after Beijing signed a security pact with Solomon Islands. Pacific Island leaders, whose territories span around 40 million square km (15 million square miles) of ocean, have said rising levels of the sea caused by climate change are their most pressing security priority.

To discuss this aspect, one must first consider the country’s location which is strategic: Papua New Guinea is located north of Australia, a region where Beijing is attempting to spread its influence and the US and Australia are seeking to counter it. It must be recalled that Beijing has carried out large investments in the country (Papua New Guinea), especially in sectors like infrastructure and schools.

Global political analysts consider this to be an attempt to gain military and diplomatic significance. Last year, China inked a security pact with Solomon Islands which is situated in the same region. On Monday, the US and Papua New Guinea signed a security agreement, prompting protests from island residents who oppose ‘militarisation’ of the Pacific.

New Delhi’s attempt to boost ties and cooperation with the Pacific Island nations, which include, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Republic of Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu apart from Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.

Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the successful candidates selected in the prestigious Civil Services Examination-2022 of UPSC. I am sure that all of you successful candidates will contribute significantly in the development of the country. Best wishes to all of you for your bright future!

WHAT MODI SAID

Modi told the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation that India would be a reliable development partner and was committed to a “free, open and inclusive Indo Pacific”. “We are willing to share our capabilities and experiences in digital technology, space technology, health security, food security, climate change and environment protection,” he said. The Quad leaders of Australia, United States, Japan and India had agreed in Japan at the weekend to increase cooperation with the Pacific, Modi said.

One has to keenly watch the FIPIC summit and PM Modi’s recent visit to Fiji and Papua New Guinea and realise the importance of the trip. It may be recalled that the FIPIC summit was launched during Modi’s visit to Fiji in 2014. In 2015, the second FIPIC summit was held in Jaipur. This summit is the third one. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL

Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly. Bible

Meanwhile, Blinken told PM Marape that Washington would deepen its partnership across the board with PNG, and that he expected partnerships with US businesses would bring tens of billions of dollars’ worth of new deals.

The US and PNG struck a separate agreement on increasing surveillance of PNG’s exclusive economic zone through US Coast Guard patrols, protecting its economy from illegal fishing.

The United States will provide $45 million in new funds as it works with PNG to strengthen economic and security cooperation, including protective equipment for the PNG defence force, climate change mitigation and tackling transnational crime and HIV/ AIDS, Blinken said.

Congress high command wants to replicate K’taka model in Raj but…

 Effort likely to prove a ‘futile exercise’ as nothing can happen in Raj which Gehlot does not approve of

New Delhi: After the success of Siddaramaiah-DK Shivakumar pairing in Karnataka, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi want similar unity in Rajasthan. With this in focus, high command is making another attempt to bridge the differences

between CM Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot. For this an important meeting is being held in Delhi on May 26, which many senior leaders will attend. But will this divine dream come true? According to informed sources, it’s very unlikely as nothing can happen in Rajasthan which Gehlot

does not approve of. So, this meeting can also prove to be a “futile exercise”.

Before the meeting, the high command will have to find a permanent solution to the Gehlot-Pilot issue. Otherwise, after the meeting, Pilot may again start some new yatra or rally. More on P8

First India Bureau Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a huge public meeting in Ajmer on May 31 on the completion of nine years of his governance on May 26. The PM will be in Rajasthan for the fifth time in the last seven months.

The PM’s frequent visits prove that the elections will be fought under the supervision of the Central leadership and not Rajasthan BJP. Due to factionalism going on in the party in Rajasthan, this time, the High Command does not want to contest elections on the basis of Rajasthan. Perhaps, this is the reason why Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda have been visiting Rajasthan.

The focus of the Central leadership is the Lok Sabha elections to

Today, it is estimated that the majority of people spend at least an hour of their day staring at their phones, computers, or television screens. We are living in a world where technology continues to play an increasingly important role in our daily lives, which means that it is becoming more and more difficult to disconnect from the digital world. People are constantly connected to their phones and computers, and they look at screens for work, entertainment, or communication. And youngsters in particular are more and more hooked to their phones for extensive use of Social Media.

Mobile phones and laptops emit blue light, which can interfere with the care you have put into your skin and rob it of its shine. To minimize the impact of technology on our skin, Preeti Daga, a Lifestyle & Career Coach, recommends creating healthy screen habits like limiting exposure to blue light, taking more breaks, and practising effective skin care.

Blue light is no different from ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun and blue light can also cause adverse effects on your skin. Therefore, it is imperative to take the necessary precautions to protect your skin from the potential negative effects of blue light, especially anti-ageing.

◆ Wear a moisturiser that contains SPF if you spend your day exposed to technology-induced radiation. Radiation can damage your skin just as much as UV rays, so apply a moisturiser infused with SPF every hour.

◆ Make sure to find a moisturiser that is specifically designed for electronic radiation protection.

◆ HEV light has been linked to the development of dark spots and acceler-

◆ Furthermore, using a blue-light-filtering screen protector can also help reduce the effects of harmful blue light on your skin.

◆ Additionally, limiting your exposure to devices and taking frequent breaks from screens can also help reduce radiation exposure. Make sure to take frequent breaks from screens and limit your technology usage as much as possible.

◆ Try to keep your devices away from your body when using them and look for devices with lower radiation emission levels. Be sure to consult a professional for any further tips on reducing radiation exposure. Keep your cell phone away from your bed at night to minimize radiation exposure.

◆ Be mindful of the amount of time you spend on your device. Use a headset or speakerphone whenever possible to reduce the amount of radiation that your body is exposed to. Check your device's user guide for radiation emission levels.

◆ Limit the amount of time you spend on the phone. Turn off the device when not in use. Use a hands-free device or earpiece to minimize exposure. Be sure to keep your devices away from your head and body when making calls. When not in use, keep your device in aeroplane mode to reduce radiation exposure. Keep the device away from children whenever possible.

◆ Charge your device away from your head and body. Use a headset or speakerphone when possible. Keep the phone away from high-traffic areas like elevators and microwaves.

◆ Avoid carrying your device in your pocket or on your body. Try to keep your phone use to a minimum. Use a wired headset instead of Bluetooth.

◆ Turn off your phone when not in use. Use the phone in areas with good reception. Keep the phone at least 15 cm away from your body. Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use. Avoid using the phone when the battery is low. Use the speaker mode or a headset when possible. Avoid using the phone in places with high electromagnetic radiation, such as near power lines or cell towers. Use protective cases to reduce radiation exposure.

◆ Additionally, drinking plenty of water and eating food that's rich in antioxidants will help keep your skin looking healthy. Also, remember to get regular check-ups with a dermatologist to ensure that your skin is in good condition.

◆ Exposure to blue light can damage collagen and elastin, which are responsible for keeping the skin looking youthful. This can lead to wrinkles, discolouration, and age spots. Wearing sunglasses that block UV rays, as well as avoiding screens before bedtime can help reduce the risk of skin damage caused by blue light. Additionally, using sunscreen and moisturizers with antioxidants can also help protect skin from blue light damage.

◆ Moreover, it is important to keep

yourself hydrated from within as well as from outside. Therefore, it is recommended to drink ample amounts of water and apply a waterbased moisturiser for best results.

◆ HEV light has been linked to the development of dark spots and accelerated ageing in the skin. It is recommended to use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, to ensure that the skin is protected from the harsh effects of HEV light. Additionally, sunscreens that are specially formulated to protect against HEV light are beneficial as they provide additional protection.

◆ Furthermore, using a blue-light-filtering screen protector can also help reduce the effects of harmful blue light on your skin. Exposure to blue light can damage collagen and elastin, which are responsible for keeping the skin looking youthful. This can lead to wrinkles, discolouration, and age spots.

◆ To ensure your protection from harmful radiation, I strongly suggest using an SPF-based moisturiser with an anti-ageing formula to keep your skin from premature ageing. Reapply moisturiser every hour to maintain skin health.

◆ Radicles are tiny particles emitted from electronic devices' screens. These particles are very small and can easily penetrate the skin and get into the bloodstream, which can cause a variety of health issues. Washing your face regularly and taking frequent breaks can reduce your exposure to these particles. A face shield can provide an extra layer of protection from the particles. In addition, you can use a face shield to further reduce radiation exposure.

◆ Moreover, try to keep the device at least 20 inches away from your face to reduce radiation exposure. By making small adjustments to your device settings, you can reduce the amount of blue light you're exposed to. This will help protect your eyes and skin from blue light's harmful effects.
