‘The govt had promised to double the incomes of farmers, but is only doubling income of corporations; 3.25L farmers have committed suicide under Modi govt’

First India Bureau Mumbai: Attacking the Union Budget as favouring corporate firms while ignoring farmers, the Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha (ABKS) on Wednesday issued a statement saying that the Union government, which had promised to double farmers’ incomes is doing that, but only for large corporate houses.

“According to the government data, farmer’s earn just Rs27 a day from crops. Their indebtedness is on the rise since the rate of farm produce has been falling steadily. As a result, the number of farmer suicides has reached 3,25,000 under the Modi government. Farmers had high expectations from the budget, but they have been left disappointed,” ABKS National Joint Secretary Ajit Navale said.

“The Modi government had promised oneand-a-half times the price of agricultural produce to increase the income of farmers. In the budget, promotion of natural farming, mango cultivation on seashores, and Rs10,000 crore for animal husbandry and bulk grain have been announced. These announcements are made ignoring the basic issues of farmers and agriculture,” alleged Navale.

“Cotton and soybean prices are continuously falling in the country. The budget was expected to take steps to reduce losses to farmers as cotton and soybean production fell due to natural calamities. But that has not happened,” he also said, adding, “Unfortunately, instead of increasing the purchasing power of workers, measures have been taken to once again double the income of corporate firms.”
