Notably, Adbale got 14,071 votes in the first round of counting, while Ganar received less than half of that, with 6,309.

Bawankule was not the only BJP leader to comment on the shock to the party.

“The Nagpur seat was held by Congressbacked candidates for 18 years before 2010. After I became the state president of the BJP, that place came under our control. Wherever there is a gap, we will try to fill it,”

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar told reporters in Mumbai.

Mungantiwar also commented on the issue of the BJP getting hit over the issue of pension for teachers.

“The old pension scheme was a problem during the Congress era. It is unfortunate that we are being blamed for it,” he said.
