Union govt working to insulate India against eco slowdown: Min

Pune: Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane on Monday said the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to ensure that the global economic slowdown does not hit the common people.

He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the G20's 1st Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting in Pune. Asked about India's preparedness to confront the economic slowdown situation, Rane said, "Since we are in the cabinet, we get information (about economic slowdown) or PM Modiji advises us on it."

Currently, big developed countries are facing the economic slowdown, he noted. “To ensure India is not affected by the economic slowdown, which is ex-

pected after June, or that it should not happen, the government of India and Modiji are making efforts to ensure citizens do not get affected by it," he said, adding that efforts were being made to bring industries which can generate employment. Earlier, Rane while inaugurating the two-day IWG

Bring back projects that went to Guj: Raut to CM

Mumbai: Reacting to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s visit to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland’s Davos, Shiv Sena – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray MLA Sanjay Raut said that he should go to Gujarat before going to Davos and bring back projects that went out of the state to Gujarat.

CM Shinde is set to participate in the WEF to be held in Davos, Switzerland from January 16-20.

However, according to sources, the visit is curtailed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Mumbai on January 19.

Hitting out at the CM’s visit, Raut said, “It would be a good thing if he (Shinde) could bring Rs5 lakh crore worth investment from Davos from his two-day visit. But, projects of 2.5 lakh crore have already gone out

of Maharashtra to Gujarat. The CM should go to Gujarat and get those back first.”

Shinde exuded confidence for a fruitful visit to the forum and stated that he will bring huge returns for Maharashtra and India’s financial capital Mumbai.

PM Modi’s visit to Mumbai will likely kick start the campaign for upcoming Brihanmum-

bai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Balsahebanchi Shiv Sena, led by Shinde.

While the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is yet to convey the official schedule of his visit, the programme is likely to take place at the MMRDA ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex on January 19.

Mumbai (PTI): A special CBI court here on Monday rejected a plea seeking to call Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani as a witness in a 1989 case related to an alleged attempt to murder businessman Nusli Wadia.

Ivan Sequeira, one of the accused in the 33-year-old case, had moved the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court last year seeking to exam-

Thane: Nearly 100 medical officials practising under the AYUSH stream at rural hospitals staged an agitation at the headquarters of the Thane Zilla Parishad on Monday. Their demands include being made permanent in government services and given a group and class, apart from a hike in salary and compensation. The Maharashtra Rajya Samudaya Arogya Adhikari Sanghatana has warned of an indefinite strike from January 23 unless government heeds their demands.

Mumbai (PTI): Shiv Sena –Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray on Monday sought to know who proposed the concretization of nearly 400km of roads in Mumbai, days after he alleged irregularities in tenders floated to repair the roads.

Thackeray also asked if there was a timeline to complete the road works, and how fair is it for the administrator to propose and himself sanction the concretization of roads since the civic body has no public representative, mayor or standing committee.

The BMC’s term ended in March last year and its elections are overdue.

Thackeray had on Friday alleged that tenders for the concretization of roads in Mumbai were floated at a higher price for the benefit of contractors and the same should be scrapped.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday sought assistance from a non-governmental organization (NGO) on the grounds that a mechanism needs to be evolved for neutering, feeding, grooming and vaccination of stray dogs in view of their high population.

A division bench of Justices Gautam Patel and SG Dige said the court would like to rope in the Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) NGO which has been working towards the welfare of stray dogs for the past several decades.

The court was hearing a petition filed by six residents of a Navi Mumbai residential complex, seeking direc-

The residents had also challenged fines imposed on them by their housing society for feeding stray dogs.

Consumer panel orders insurer to pay medical compensation of `40K

First India Bureau

Mumbai: A district consumer commission has directed a third-party administrator (TPA) to make payment of Rs40,336 MediClaim to a complainant. It set a deadline of 60 days for the compensation with 6% interest per annum.

The January 09 order was passed by President of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, RG Wankhade, and its member Shraddha Jalnapurkar. The complaint was filed by Vikas Naik against Medi Assist India TPA Pvt. Ltd and United India Insurance Co. Ltd.

Naik had taken a floater policy for himself and his parents for an amount of Rs3 lakh.

In 2014, Naik’s father was admitted to a hospital for treatment and a claim of Rs40,336 was raised. However, he filed a complaint with the commission when his claim was neither cleared nor rejected.

UNSUCCESSFUL

In his complaint, Naik said that he had made two more claims which were not fully cleared. He further stated that he filed a complaint for all claims with a total amount of Rs80, 407. It included the uncleared amounts of the two previous claims (of Rs22,445 and Rs13,774).

Pavement guardrails: Boon for hawkers, bane for pedestrians

the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed fibre railings or guardrails on stretches of pavement across the city.

First India Bureau

Mumbai: In an attempt to prevent cars from being driven and/or parked on sidewalks and to deter hawkers,

Despite the move, cars continue to be parked on footpaths in several parts of the city, with the railings now serving as hangers for hawkers’ wares. This, in turn, has made it difficult for pedestrians to navigate the pavements.

At first, BMC offi-

cials mooted the idea of installing railings/ guardrails and boulders on footpaths back in 2019. Traffic officials stated that many bikers take to riding on footpaths during peak hours to avoid the traffic, thus posing a risk to pedestrians. Officials said the railing would not only deter bikers, but also hawkers.

For fear of blowback, a senior BMC official, choosing anonymity, said, “These railings

have been installed to make pedestrianfriendly footpaths/ pavements and to ensure there is no encroachment on footpaths. It also adds to the aesthetics of the roads.”

However, an on-

ground visit to areas where railings have been installed tells a different tale. Railings have failed to meet their purpose with hawkers using them as hangers for their wares—from clothes, bags, footwear to flower garlands.

“Footpaths have become a utility for hawkers, encroachments.

These railings have become a vital piece of furniture for them.

How is this railing helpful to pedestrians?

During peak hour and congestion, footpaths with railings become even more risky,” said Saurabh Singh, a local resident.

Additionally, there are also places where people have uprooted and discarded part of the railing for their convenience.

Drug addicts and anti-social elements gather at footpath corners around the railing at some spots, said another local resident.

Modi - PM of the world’s second biggest country

PM Modi has all the attributes of a great entrepreneur. He thinks big but first experiments on a small scale. All ideas and recommendations that can make a positive difference are executed at simply magical speeds. The narrator shows us how our PM has the uncanny ability to look through the telescope and the microscope at the same time making him the legitimate Startup PM.

Ihad the good fortune of meeting our Hon’ble Prime Minister two years back. We discussed tourism and travel and the opportunities these sectors presented before us. I got 15 minutes for interaction and true to the time, the meeting started one minute before the scheduled time and continued for a few minutes beyond. But those 15 minutes were devoted to focused discussion on tourism and travel. PM Modi gives undivided attention in his meetings so much so that the person meeting him feels that there is nothing more important to the PM than the agenda at hand. The PM has vast and in-depth knowledge of travel and tourism that for

once I got a feeling that no one can know more about it than him and that he probably has only this industry to think about. Of course, he is the PM and is aware of every little aspect of governance in all sectors, but his interest and expertise in travel and tourism is simply remarkable!

He is the Prime Minister of the world’s second biggest country and the world’s largest democracy. You know he would only be thinking 30 thousand feet above, but he can have discussions which are right down there at the absolute ground level. He does not indulge in macro-conversations. Let me give some examples of it. Once we were discussing what has and what has not worked for us. I said what has worked for us is that we have gone to small property owners, and helped them develop their infrastructure and get revenue. What I have learned in India is that supply is the problem, not the demand. If we get good quality supply at the right price, consumers need them and they come forward. At the same time, India is an agrarian economy. We have a lot of farmers in our country and people like to visit villages, experience their stay in village accommodations and learn from it. So PM Modi suggested “Why don’t you try village tourism? This would enable some of these farmers to create a sustainable long-term source of income and help urban dwellers experience and know what village life truly is.” I have a lot of colleagues who hope that someday they can take their children to the village and show them how the village environment feels.

Now this was in the middle of Covid and we decided to go ahead and experiment with the idea. So we went to a village in Gujarat, spoke with a

certain number of villagers and started doing business with them. I am so happy to state that each one of these homes fetched the villagers more than Rs 50,000 of income per month throughout the pandemic. There is one of our owners, Raju bhai, who has not just one home, but got two rooms constructed. And today, he is on the path of becoming our reseller who is going and selling our services to other farmers. He tells people that he has been using OYO and how he has benefited from this in the same environment. So one bit of conversation with PM Modi, just a minute and a half, translated into an opportunity for so many of our farmers. Not just OYO, any company can venture into village tourism that houses a large part of Indian population, and enable

consumers to have a unique experience and create an industry by itself. PM Modi has this ability to converse in terms of massive depth and massive breadth. He looks at large scale initiatives but tracks their execution very closely and this makes our Hon’ble PM truly a Startup Prime Minister. I mentioned to him that my mother for the longest time thought that me pursuing entrepreneurship was a bad idea. Some of my friends convinced me to be an entrepreneur and she felt it was not the right thing to do. The first time the PM talked about me in Startup India, my mom finally told me that what you are doing must be probably right.

In his interactions with other industry leaders, he discusses ideas, challenges and way

ahead with the same level of depth. I have heard him talking about data centre expansion, heard him talk about renewable energy right from the location of solar to ethanol resources, where to find the raw materials to manufacture these panels in India etc. When we think infrastructure, we only think of road, railway, highway. But I have heard industry groups have a conversation about consumer electronics. India this year probably will be single biggest country for consumer electronic manufacturing. Very rarely do people know about it. Recently there was a big drone policy and reform measures to promote India’s drone industry. India is becoming the hotbed of drone manufacturing and innovation. In each of these industries, such level of depth,

in my view is unparalleled and this is leading all these industries to grow.

He is an incredible listener. In an industry delegation, he would listen to every item on thee list. In one of pre-budget CII delegations, his clear perspective was that long term value is created by investing in infrastructure. So if tourism needs to expand, we should make large scale, long term infrastructure investment. Kevadia in Gujarat is a great example of this where the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity is. But along with that, there are rapids for rafting, cactus gardens, garden based restaurants, jungle safaris and what not. It is a one-ofits-kind experience and I highly encourage people to visit Kevadia or Ekta Nagar. This infrastructure has now allowed a huge hotel industry to flourish there. We can look at Kashi Assi Ghat, railway station, Shri Kashi Vishwanathit is incredible how the city has transformed and has had a great knock-on effect on everyone in the ecosystem. Whether you are an auto driver, tourist guide, someone selling temple products, you are growing and so is the government! PM Modi is a long term reformist and a value creator. 100 unicorns don’t get created out of one initiative. Quite a few things had to come together for all of us to be here. The world and our own entrepreneurial ecosystem is in awe of how we have been able to get there!

We are a country with a billion plus people with the aspiration and inspiration to be best in world. And we have a leader who says that we are not satisfied with status quo! TO BE CONTINUED...

The cruise which was scheduled to dock at the shore for the tourists to visit Chirand, an archaeological site, got stuck because of water deficiency in the Ganges near the Doriganj area of the district. Releasing the India supplement of its annual inequality report on the first day of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting here, rights group Oxfam International said that taxing India’s ten-richest at 5% can fetch entire money to bring children back to school.

“A one-off tax on unrealized gains from 2017–2021 on just one billionaire, Gautam Adani, could have raised ` 1.79 lakh crore, enough to employ more than five million Indian primary school teachers for a year,” it added.

The report titled ‘Survival of the Richest’ further said that if India’s billionaires are taxed once at 2% on their entire wealth, it would support the re-

Mumbai: The picture regarding the candidates in the elections for the Teacher-Graduate Legislative Council to be held in the state is now clear. The deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers was till 3 pm on Monday, January 16. In fact, several dramatic developments took place since morning and espe-

cially in Nashik constituency. Finally, till three o'clock, Shumbhagi Patil did not withdraw her application, but with the withdrawal of BJP supporters Dhanraj Vispute and Dhananjay Jadhav, there will be a direct fight between Satyajit Tambe, Shubhangi Patil and Subhash Jungle in Nashik. What is more shocking is the fact that Shinde faction's own candidate is not contesting on any of the five seats.

NASHIK CONSTITUENCY

Shubhangi Patil was

not available since this morning. It was discussed that BJP is trying to get Patil to withdraw her candidature. Due to this there were rumors that Shubhangi Patil would withdraw her candidature. But,

this prospect failed. On the other hand, Babanrao Gholap, a former minister of the Thackeray group, demanded to support Subhash Jangle instead of supporting Shubhangi Patil. However, no official po-

sition has been announced from the Thackeray group in this regard. This will lead to a fight between Satyajit Tambe, Shubhangi Patil and Subhash Jungle. Also, six people withdrew their candidature and a total of 16 candidates are in the fray.

NAGPUR CONSTITUENCY

The Nagpur teachers' constituency also saw dramatic twists and turns. Gangadhar Nakade was fielded by the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bala-

saheb Thackeray) group in Nagpur, but he withdrew the application. In Nagpur, there will be a direct fight between sitting BJP MLA Nago Gunner and Sudhakar Adbole of Congress. But along with this Satish Itkelwar of NCP has not withdrawn his application, so NCP has taken action against him and suspended him from the party.

AMRAVATI CONSTITUENCY

In Amravati graduate constituency, Congress's Dheeraj Lingade

and BJP's sitting MLA Ranjit Patil will contest.

KONKAN CONSTITUENCY

Sitting MLA Balram Patil is Mahavikas Aghadi's candidate from Konkan Teachers' constituency. He has been given another chance and Mahavikas Aghadi has also shown its support. BJP's Dnyaneshwar Mhatre has been fielded against him.

AURANGABAD CONSTITUENCY

The Aurangabad teach-

ers' constituency has been with the Nationalist Congress Party for many years.

Sitting MLA Vikram Kale has been given another chance. On the other hand, BJP has fielded Kiran Patil imported from Congress. Since Kale has already served two terms, this election is not that difficult for him. Now voting will be held on all these five seats on January 30. The counting of votes will take place on February 2, 2023.

Mumbai: Congress nominated Dr. Sudhir Tambe filed his son Satyajit Tambe's independent candidature without filing his candidature. After this, Congress has suspended Sudhir Tambe. Now, the possibility of suspension of Satyajit Tambe is also being expressed. When asked about this, senior Congress leader and member of the Maharashtra Congress Disciplinary

Committee Prithviraj Chavan expressed his views on Monday.

Chavan said, “Sudhir Tambe was given a ticket by the All India Congress Committee. So this indiscipline is related to Delhi. The President of Maharashtra may make some recommendations to the Disciplinary Committee of the All India Congress Committee. However, the final decision will be taken by AICC.”

“The decision to suspend Sudhir Tambe was

also taken by the Central Disciplinary Committee. The Secretary of that committee is

Tariq Anwar. Sudhir Tambe's suspension letter has been issued with his signature. Therefore, if anyone else is to be suspended, it will be with his signature," said Chavan.

"Information about the suspension of Satyajit Tambe will not come from Maharashtra. The recommendation will definitely go through Maharashtra, but the decision will be made at the All India Congress Committee level. Sudhir Tambe has

been suspended. Now Tariq Anwar will take the decision of what to do next," added Chavan.

Chavan further said, “The question is not about the suspension of Satyajit Tambe. In this situation, Congress and all the constituent parties of Mahavikas Aghadi have to find a way out of this. In any case, this seat should not go into the hands of BJP-minded people, and everyone should support any candidate of Mahavikas Aghadi.”

Mumbai: The political atmosphere in the state has heated up regarding the election of the graduate and teachers constituency of the Legislative Council. There was immense discussion about Nashik graduate constituency till Monday when the time for withdrawal of nomination ended. Now, everyone’s eyes are fixed on which independent candidate will be supported by BJP on this seat. For this, BJP leader Girish

Mahajan has given a thought provoking statement while talking about whom BJP will support in Nashik graduate constituency.

“We are asking independent candidates to withdraw. It has to be

seen what decision party leaders take. State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis have that authority. Our support has been sought by Satyajit Tambe and if he gets the green signal from BJP, he will be our candidate,” Mahajan said, further adding, “The candidate we will support will be elected with a large majority. We will try our best for that. Shubhangi Patil had joined BJP, but now she has sided with Thackeray.”

Mumbai: For some time now, there have been talks that former BJP minister Pankaja Munde is unhappy in the party. There is a discussion in the political circles that Munde is being sidelined by the party.

Meanwhile, Thackeray group leader Chandrakant Khaire has made a big statement about accepting Pankaja Munde in Shiv Sena, saying that if she comes to Sena, the party will welcome her. He has indirectly made Munde an open offer to join the Thackeray group.

Khaire said, “The work of ignoring the

family of Gopinath Munde is going on by the BJP leaders. At present, it is clear that the BJP is working to overthrow the Munde family. So if Pankaja Munde comes to our party, we welcome her.”

“Uddhav Thackeray has full right to take her to the party. He also considers Pankaja Munde as his sister,” added Khaire.

Mumbai: The Thackeray family is frequently targetted by the Narayan Rane family.

However, now, Rajan Salvi, MLA of the Thackeray group, criticized Narayan Rane for giving him a ministerial position only to target Shiv Sena. In fact, Salvi even challenged Rane to contest his next election against Salve from Konkan region.

Rane is currently attacking former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and former minister Aditya Thackeray. Rajan Salvi said that Narayan Rane’s allegations should be brought be -

fore the people.

Although Narayan Rane is accusing the Thackeray family today, Rajan Salvi has made a public challenge that if they have the guts, they should contest the Lok Sabha elections from Konkan. Therefore, it is seen that the dispute between Rane and Thackeray family will become more heated.

Mumbai: National President of the Republican Party of India, Deepak Sadashiv Nikalje, organized a press conference in which, while addressing the media, he said that the national convention will be held in the Chembur area on January 18. After becoming the National President of the Republican Party of India, under the leadership of Deepak Nikalje, this will be the first na-

tional convention.

Nikalje said that various issues will be raised in the national convention. Workers reaching from all the states will be told about the wrong

policies of the government so that it will be helpful in solving the questions of the general public by raising the issue in front of the public representatives.

Deepak Nikalje is also the younger brother of underworld don Chhota Rajan, due to which his image in the general public is always controversial. On January 13, underworld don Chhota Rajan's birthday was celebrated at different locations in Mumbai, in which Mumbai Police ar-

rested 7 people. On asking this question, Nikalje thumped his chest and said, "Yes, I am Chhota Rajan's brother, I also celebrated my birthday."

Nikalje added, “If people respect him, then he should be allowed to celebrate his birthday. No one should have any objection if Chhota Rajan's birthday is celebrated. Accusing other parties, Nikalje said that he is targetted for being Chhota Rajan's brother only when the elections come.

The star panelists included Bollywood Star Vidyut Jamwal, Swami Nijamritananda Puri, Administrative Director, Amrita Hospital, Sameer Sethi, VP & Head of Brand Marketing, Policy Bazaar, Abhishek Sharma, CBO, VidyaMandir Classes, Anita Nayyar, COOMedia, Branding & Communication, Patanjali Ayurved, among other think-tanks.

LIBRA

SEPT 24 - OCTOBER 22

In the everyday hustle of our overly busy lives, we often forget the smaller and most uncomplicated pockets of joy!

Those laughter-filled dinners with family or a simple outing with friends can provide our brains with something we all jones for, some distraction. Let it be the most successful person in the world, we all have our troubles, and we certainly need some pick-meups. Ritzzy and I often take walks in nature or have quiet book-reading sessions. Our absolute favourites are the cute picnic times that help us let loose and connect with our loved ones. Those fun-filled lazy afternoons with delicious food, timeless board games and a lot of chatter are just what you may need to recall what life is all about.

As if the ultra-modern-

ism of this world was not enough, we had the pandemic. Lately, most of us have retired into small, safe and technologically advanced shells. Nobody likes to go to the parks or gardens anymore; it is more of a developmental side-effect than the fear of covid. If you keep a safe distance and are hygienic, going into nature can be rather therapeutic than troublesome. So as part of this new year resolution, the Cauldron Sisters decided to make more us-time having picnics. We took the baby boo, Tanay, for a picnic in Central Park (Jaipur).

It sits in the mid of the city (hence the name).

The Jaipur Development Authority-constructed park is free for everyone. The beautiful greenery and picturesque views were most certainly something that we needed on a sunny winter day.

Ratzz, Tanay and I played, ate some tasty homemade food and enjoyed a lot during this picnic.

Ritzzy taught baby-boo how to make paper aero-

planes, and in return, he taught us how to make paper bombs (hehe).

There were popcorn, burgers and french fries to eat, lemonade in some spill-proof container and games to have fun. We had a blast playing frisbee; clearly, we were missing our childhood. Recently, with so much gadget usage, the world is losing touch with these simple physical games. However, we all must remember it is not nutritious food only, that is great for our bodies. We also made sure to check our phones only occasionally; this way, distraction was minimal, and we were present in the moment.

While Ritzzy is telling you about our ‘pic-adventure’, let me chime in with the planning details. Since a picnic is an outdoor event, carrying supplies proved helpful. Both of us have particular needs, and of course, Tanay does too. So we made a full-blown list

HERE IS THE LIST OF ITEMS THAT WE CARRIED. LET US KNOW IF YOU THINK OF ARTICLES THAT WE MAY HAVE MISSED

Bed Sheet – to sit on (you may also carry portable chairs/stools if you wish or know that the ground could be moist)

Food – to munch on (we packed home-made, but that is your choice)

Drinks – to sip on Napkins – to wipe on Cutlery – to rely on (the use and throw ones are also good options if you wish)

Games – to sport on Garbage Bag – to trash on (very important since a picnic does not equals littering)

Sunscreen – to put on (very significant for sun exposure)

The good things about a picnic are more than family/friends time; it is also the fresh air and sun. What we often forget while caring for our children is the value of the outdoors. Our

bodies need vitamin D, of which sunlight is a major source; we also need to breathe clean air that is present near trees and greenery. These vivid colours and our bare feet on the grass are also great for the eyes. Additionally, if you top it up with games, especially those that are physically and mentally challenging, it is an unmatched and wholesome activity.

Why shy away from something you wished you had done sooner?

While choosing to be more healthy this year remember to pick your happiness first. Spend some time with yourself and your near-dear ones, especially without those pesky-little gadgets. We need more sunlight than blue light!

Tell us of such fun activities that you choose to do with your people…

Fortunes are set to rise for those in trade and business. You love to live close to your family.

You are a child at heart and never let this child die.

You have a big heart and you always help someone if you can. Expected payments are likely to get released soon.

SCORPIO

OCT 23 - NOVEMBER 22

Family will be supportive of your ideas, but only to an extent. You give tough competition to people. Many people get inspired by you. You will get special treatment from your dear ones. Meeting people you get along with well is likely to make the day enjoyable for you.

SAGITTARIUS

NOV 23 - DEC 22

Whatever you have in mind, you will manage to implement it at work. You are likely to feel much healthy and energetic today. Visit a doctor if you have any doubts about your health. You want to have your own house and you will work hard to make your dream come true.

CAPRICORN

You are most wanted by your friends. You can have romantic affair in office and a serious one.

You will invest money in clothes and accessories today. You are a God fearing person. Never demotivate someone even if someone is not capable of doing something.
