Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday slammed Punjab police and asked them to submit a status report in their operation against Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh.

How did Amritpal Singh escape?” the HC asked Punjab government. The court remarked that this is an intelligence failure of the state’s police. The court’s remarks come amid the Punjab Police action against the Khalistan leader and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’.

Mumbai (PTI): Maharashtra on Tuesday recorded 280 new cases of COVID-19 and one fatality due to the infection, taking the tally to 81,40,145 and toll to 1,48,429, an official from the state health department said. The daily count of cases has more than doubled since Monday, when it reported 128 new cases. According to an official report, with 7,845 swab samples tested in the last 24 hours, the total number of tests conducted across the state rose to 8,65,57,062. Of the latest cases, Pune circle reported the highest 133 infections, followed by 101 from Mumbai, 14 from Nashik, 10 from Kolhapur, 9 from Nagpur, seven cases from Akola and six from Aurangabad. The only casualty of the day was reported from Latur circle, the report said.

First India Bureau Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the Adani group which has won the tender for Dharavi redevelopment will receive the Letter of Intent (LoI) only after it establishes that it has the financial capability to execute the project.

He was replying in the Legislative Assembly after Congress MLA Varsha Gaikwad, whose constituency includes Dharavi, raised concerns about the project following the allegations of stock manipulation facing the Adani group.

Gaikwad also asked if a fresh tender would be floated for the project.

Fadnavis asserted that the tendering process was transparent. There was a global tender and three parties responded to it. The bids of two parties were proper and the highest bidder among them was awarded the contract, he said.
