In recent years, the entrepreneurial landscape in the UAE has undergone a significant transformation, largely driven by the emergence of women entrepreneurs. As the country continues diversifying its economy and encouraging innovation, women are increasingly stepping into the entrepreneurial arena, launching successful businesses across
various industries. This shift is empowering women and reshaping the UAE’s business environment in profound ways.
The rise of women in entrepreneurship is a testament to the UAE’s commitment to gender equality and economic diversification. Through supportive government policies, access to funding, and the growth of entrepreneurial networks, women can now pursue their business aspirations with greater ease and success. This feature will explore how women are changing the entrepreneurial landscape, the challenges they face, and the impact they are making on the UAE’s economy.
From technology startups to sustainable fashion brands, women entrepreneurs in the UAE are breaking new ground, creating jobs, and contributing to the country’s global competitiveness. Their stories of innovation, resilience, and leadership offer inspiration to others and highlight the dynamic role women are playing in shaping the future of the UAE’s economy.
The UAE has long been recognized as a hub for entrepreneurship, offering a conducive environment for business growth and innovation. In recent years, this environment has become increasingly inclusive, with women entrepreneurs playing a more prominent role. This shift is the result of a combination of supportive policies, societal changes, and the determination of women to succeed in the business world.
The UAE government has been instrumental in promoting women’s entrepreneurship through various initiatives and policies. The National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2015-2021 laid the foundation for gender equality in all sectors, including entrepreneurship. This strategy emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for women to start and grow their businesses, leading to a more inclusive economy.
Additionally, organizations like the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development and Dubai SME have provided critical support to women entrepreneurs by offering funding, training, and mentoring. These programs have helped bridge the gap between ambition and action, enabling more women to turn their business ideas into reality.
Cultural attitudes towards women in business have also evolved significantly. Today, women in the UAE are encouraged to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, with growing recognition of their potential to contribute to the economy. This cultural shift is reflected in the increasing number of women-led businesses across various sectors, from technology to retail.
Entrepreneurial role models, such as H.E. Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg and Mona Al Marri, have further inspired young women to enter the entrepreneurial space. Their success stories demonstrate that women can not only succeed but also thrive in the competitive world of business. As a result,
more women are now considering entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career path.
The impact of these changes is evident in the growing number of women entrepreneurs in the UAE. According to recent studies, women now own nearly 10% of all registered businesses in the UAE, a significant increase from previous years. This growth is particularly notable in sectors such as technology, fashion, and healthcare, where women are leading the way in innovation and disruption.
Moreover, the UAE ranks high in the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index for female entrepreneurship, highlighting the country’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for women in business. These statistics underscore the transformative role women are playing in the UAE’s entrepreneurial landscape.
One sector where women entrepreneurs are making significant strides is technology. Historically male-dominated, the tech industry in the UAE is now seeing an influx of women entrepreneurs who are launching startups that address local and global challenges. Noora Al Kaabi, for example, has made a name for herself in the tech world with her company, which focuses on artificial intelligence solutions for the healthcare sector. Her success is indicative of the broader trend of women leveraging technology to create impactful businesses.
These women are not only contributing to the growth of the tech sector but are also challenging traditional gender norms by excelling in fields typically dominated by men. Their achievements are paving the way for future generations of women to enter and succeed in the tech industry.
While the rise of women entrepreneurs in the UAE is a positive development, it is not without its challenges. Like their counterparts around the world, women in the UAE face unique obstacles in their entrepreneurial journeys. However, these challenges are also accompanied by significant opportunities, particularly in the context of the UAE’s rapidly evolving economy.
One of the primary challenges for women entrepreneurs is access to funding. Despite the progress made, women still face difficulties in
Women-led businesses are becoming a crucial part of the UAE’s economy, particularly in the SME sector, where they drive innovation, create jobs, and contribute to the country’s GDP.
The tech industry in the UAE is witnessing a notable rise in women entrepreneurs, with many launching startups that are not only profitable but also at the forefront of technological innovation
Despite progress, women-led startups in the UAE receive less funding than their male counterparts, underscoring the need for continued support and targeted investment initiatives.
securing investment for their ventures. Studies show that women-led startups receive less funding compared to those led by men, a disparity that can hinder the growth and scalability of their businesses.
However, this challenge has also led to the emergence of new opportunities. In response to the funding gap, several initiatives have been launched to support women entrepreneurs in securing capital. Organizations like Womena, a UAE-based angel investment platform, are specifically focused on investing in women-led startups. These initiatives are helping to level the playing field, providing women with the financial resources needed to grow their businesses.
Another challenge for women entrepreneurs is balancing the demands of running a business with family responsibilities. In a society where family roles are highly valued, women often find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities, which can impact their ability to focus on their businesses.
To address this, many women entrepreneurs are adopting flexible business models that allow them to balance their personal and professional lives. Additionally, the growth of co-working spaces and the increasing acceptance of remote work have provided women with more options to manage their time effectively. These developments are helping women maintain a healthy work-life balance while pursuing their entrepreneurial ambitions.
Networking is a crucial aspect of entrepreneurship, yet women often find themselves excluded from traditional business networks. This can limit their access to valuable resources, information, and opportunities. However, the rise of women-focused networking groups and events in the UAE is changing this dynamic.
Organizations such as the Dubai Business Women Council and Emirates Business Women Council are providing platforms for women entrepreneurs to connect, share experiences, and collaborate. These networks are not only fostering a sense of community among women entrepreneurs but are also opening doors to new business opportunities.
Mentorship is another area where women entrepreneurs are seeing increased support. Experienced business leaders are stepping up to mentor the next generation of women entrepreneurs, offering guidance and insights that are critical for success. These mentorship relationships are helping women navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and scale their
businesses effectively.
Despite the challenges, the UAE’s rapidly diversifying economy presents numerous opportunities for women entrepreneurs, particularly in emerging industries. Sectors such as fintech, sustainable energy, and e-commerce are ripe for innovation, and women are well-positioned to capitalize on these opportunities.
For example, the rise of e-commerce has opened up new avenues for women entrepreneurs in the retail and fashion industries. By leveraging digital platforms, women can reach a global customer base without the need for significant upfront investment. This has democratized access to entrepreneurship, allowing more women to start and grow their businesses.
Similarly, the UAE’s commitment to sustainability is creating opportunities for women entrepreneurs in the green economy. From sustainable fashion to renewable energy startups, women are leading the charge in creating businesses that are not only profitable but also environmentally responsible.
The growing presence of women entrepreneurs is having a profound impact on the UAE’s economy. By creating jobs, driving innovation, and contributing to economic diversification, women-led businesses are playing a crucial role in the country’s development.
Women entrepreneurs are making significant contributions to the UAE’s GDP. As more women enter the entrepreneurial space, their businesses are generating revenue, creating employment opportunities, and stimulating economic growth. In particular, women-led SMEs are becoming a vital part of the UAE’s economic fabric, driving innovation and competitiveness in various industries. Moreover, women entrepreneurs are contributing to the UAE’s goal of becoming a global leader in innovation. Their businesses are not only addressing local challenges but are also positioning the UAE as a hub for entrepreneurial activity in the region. This is enhancing the country’s global standing and attracting investment from around the world.
Beyond economic contributions, women entrepreneurs are also making a significant social impact. Many women-led businesses are focused on addressing social issues, such as
education, healthcare, and sustainability. By aligning their business goals with social good, these entrepreneurs are creating positive change in their communities.
For instance, Reem Al Owais, founder of a sustainable fashion brand, is not only running a successful business but also promoting environmental awareness and ethical consumption. Her brand has become a symbol of the growing trend towards sustainability in the UAE, inspiring others to consider the social and environmental impact of their business decisions.
Looking ahead, the future for women entrepreneurs in the UAE is bright. The country’s continued focus on economic diversification, coupled with supportive policies and initiatives, will likely result in even more opportunities for women in business. However, sustaining this momentum will require ongoing efforts to address the challenges women entrepreneurs face.
Key to this will be ensuring that women have equal access to funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities. As the entrepreneurial ecosystem continues to evolve, it will be important to create an environment where women can thrive and contribute fully to the economy.
The UAE’s Vision 2030 highlights the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment as drivers of national progress. By continuing to support women entrepreneurs, the UAE can harness the full potential of its population, ensuring that women play a central role in shaping the country’s future.
Education plays a crucial role in the rise of women entrepreneurs in the UAE. Over the past few decades, the UAE has made significant investments in education, particularly in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). These efforts have equipped women with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in various industries, including those traditionally dominated by men.
Universities and institutions across the UAE are offering specialized programs in entrepreneurship, which are increasingly attracting female students. These programs provide not only academic knowledge but also practical experience through internships, mentorships, and networking opportunities. As a result, a new generation of educated, ambitious women is emerging, ready to take on the challenges of entrepreneurship.
Social media and digital platforms have revolutionized the way businesses are conducted, offering women entrepreneurs in the UAE unprecedented opportunities to reach global audiences. Platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook have become essential tools for marketing, brand building, and customer engagement, allowing women to launch and grow their businesses with minimal initial investment.
Women in the UAE are leveraging these platforms to create strong personal and business brands, connect with customers, and expand their market reach. This digital empowerment is particularly evident in industries like fashion, beauty, and e-commerce, where women are leading successful online ventures. Additionally, the rise of e-commerce has democratized entrepreneurship, enabling women to operate businesses from home, balancing work and family life more effectively.
The rise of women entrepreneurs in the UAE is not just a testament to our country’s commitment to gender equality but a reflection of the boundless potential women bring to the table.
As we continue to support and empower women in business, we’re building a more inclusive and innovative future for all.”
- Shaikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa)
As women continue to make strides in entrepreneurship, their influence is also growing in leadership roles within major corporations and government bodies. The UAE government has actively promoted gender diversity in leadership, with women now holding key positions in various sectors, including finance, technology, and healthcare. This shift is not only inspiring more women to pursue entrepreneurship but is also creating a more balanced and inclusive business environment.
Women leaders in the UAE are also serving as mentors and role models for the next generation of entrepreneurs. Their success stories provide tangible proof that women can
achieve great heights in business, encouraging others to follow in their footsteps. These women are not only shaping the future of the UAE’s economy but are also contributing to a global movement towards greater gender equality in business.
Collaborative initiatives and ventures focused on women’s entrepreneurship are becoming increasingly common in the UAE. These initiatives bring together women entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts to share knowledge, resources, and opportunities. They also provide platforms for women to showcase their businesses, gain exposure, and attract potential investors.
One such example is the Womena initiative, which focuses on empowering women in the tech industry by providing access to capital, mentorship, and networking opportunities. These collaborations are crucial in overcoming the challenges that women entrepreneurs face, such as limited access to funding and mentorship. By working together, women
“
Women in the UAE are breaking barriers and redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur. With the right support and opportunities, we are not just contributing to the economy, but we are leading it towards new heights of innovation and sustainability.”

entrepreneurs in the UAE are creating a supportive community that fosters growth, innovation, and success.
The transformation of the entrepreneurial landscape in the UAE is a testament to the resilience, creativity, and leadership of women entrepreneurs. As the country continues to embrace gender equality and economic diversification, the role of women in business will only become more significant. However, to sustain this momentum, ongoing efforts are needed to address the remaining challenges, particularly in areas like access to funding and balancing work-life responsibilities.
The UAE’s vision for the future includes empowering women to contribute fully to the economy, and the continued rise of women entrepreneurs will be a key driver in achieving this goal. By supporting and celebrating women in entrepreneurship, the UAE is not only building a more inclusive economy but is also setting an example for the rest of the world.
In the evolving world of business, female CEOs are not only breaking the proverbial glass ceiling but are also redefining what it means to be a leader in today’s global economy. As more women ascend to the highest echelons of corporate leadership, they bring with them fresh perspectives, innovative approaches, and a commitment to inclusive, sustainable growth. This shift is not just a trend; it is a powerful movement that is shaping the future of global leadership.
While the presence of women in CEO roles has historically been limited, recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of female leaders at the helm of major corporations. This change is driven by a growing recognition of the value that diverse leadership brings to organizations. Companies with female CEOs often outperform their peers, showing higher profitability, improved employee engagement, and better decision-making outcomes.
Despite these advancements, women still represent a small percentage of CEOs globally. However, as barriers continue to be dismantled, the path for future female leaders is becoming clearer and more accessible. This feature explores how female CEOs are transforming the business landscape, the challenges they face, and why they are the future of corporate leadership.
As of today, women hold approximately 10% of CEO positions in Fortune 500 companies—a number that, while still low, has been steadily increasing. This progress is a result of years of advocacy, policy changes, and a growing understanding of the importance of gender diversity
in leadership. Notable female CEOs, such as Mary Barra of General Motors, Jane Fraser of Citigroup, and Emma Walmsley of GlaxoSmithKline, have not only shattered stereotypes but have also proven that women can lead complex, global organizations successfully. Their leadership styles often emphasize collaboration, transparency, and long-term thinking, qualities that are becoming increasingly valued in today’s business environment.
Moreover, the rise of female CEOs is not confined to Western economies. In regions like the Middle East and Asia, more women are stepping into leadership roles, supported by progressive policies and changing cultural norms. This global movement is reshaping the corporate world, making it more inclusive and better equipped to handle the challenges of the 21st century.

Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence. As women leaders, we bring a unique perspective that can drive meaningful change and foster a culture of inclusion and innovation.”
- Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors
Motors in 2014, is a prime example of how female leadership can transform an organization. Under her leadership, GM has navigated significant challenges, including the shift towards electric vehicles and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Barra’s focus on innovation and sustainability has positioned GM as a leader in the automotive industry’s transition to cleaner, more efficient technologies. Barra’s success at GM highlights the unique strengths that female CEOs can bring to their roles. Her approach to leadership—marked by a commitment to transparency, employee engagement, and strategic foresight—has earned her widespread respect and has set a benchmark for other leaders to follow.
The rise of female CEOs is not just a win for gender equality; it is also proving to be a strategic advantage for companies. Numerous studies have shown that organizations with female leaders tend to perform better financially, are more innovative, and have stronger corporate cultures. This section delves into the tangible benefits that female CEOs bring to the table and why they are integral to the future success of
Financial Performance: Companies led by female CEOs are 25% more likely to outperform their peers in profitability, according to research by McKinsey & Company
It’s not just about breaking the glass ceiling; it’s about making sure that more women are empowered to rise through the ranks. Leadership isn’t a position, it’s a mindset, and women are demonstrating that we are ready to lead in every industry, on every level.
businesses worldwide.
One of the most compelling arguments for increasing the number of female CEOs is the impact on financial performance. Research by McKinsey & Company and other organizations consistently shows that companies with gender-diverse leadership teams are more likely to outperform their peers. Specifically, companies with female CEOs often report higher profitability, stronger stock market performance, and better overall financial health.
25%
This outperformance can be attributed to several factors. Female leaders are often more risk-aware and tend to focus on sustainable, long-term growth rather than short-term gains. They are also more likely to prioritize customer satisfaction and employee well-being, which can lead to stronger brand loyalty and lower turnover rates. These factors, combined with a more inclusive approach to decision-making, create a solid foundation for financial success.
Female CEOs are also driving innovation in their organizations. Their diverse perspectives and willingness to challenge the status quo make them well-suited to lead in today’s rapidly changing business environment. Women are more likely to foster a culture of creativity and experimentation, encouraging their teams to think outside the box and develop new solutions to complex problems. For instance, Jane Fraser, the first female CEO of a major U.S. bank, has been instrumental in driving Citigroup’s digital transformation. Under her leadership, the bank has invested heavily in fintech and digital banking solutions, positioning itself as a leader in an industry that is increasingly defined by technological innovation. Moreover, female CEOs often bring a collaborative approach to leadership, which can enhance problem-solving and decision-making processes. By seeking input from a diverse range of voices, they are able to identify opportunities and risks that might otherwise be overlooked. This inclusive leadership style is particularly valuable in industries where innovation and agility are key to success.
Another area where female CEOs excel is in shaping corporate culture. Women leaders tend to prioritize employee engagement, diversity, and inclusion, recognizing that a happy and motivated workforce is essential to achieving business goals. Companies led by women often report higher levels of employee satisfaction, lower turnover rates, and better overall workplace environments. For example, Emma Walmsley of GlaxoSmithKline has been praised for her efforts to create a more inclusive and employee-friendly culture at the pharmaceutical giant. Her focus on diversity and well-being has not only improved employee morale but has also contributed to the company’s strong performance in a highly competitive industry.
In today’s talent-driven economy, the ability to attract and retain top talent is a critical competitive advantage. Female CEOs, with their focus on creating supportive and inclusive workplaces, are well-positioned to lead their organizations in this regard. As the importance of corporate culture continues to grow, the influence of female leaders is likely to become
even more pronounced. Despite the growing number of female CEOs, the journey to the top is still fraught with challenges. Women aspiring to leadership roles often encounter significant barriers, from gender biases and stereotypes to limited access to networks and resources. However, these challenges are also catalysts for change, pushing women to develop unique strengths and strategies that ultimately make them more effective leaders.
Balancing the demands of a CEO role with personal and family responsibilities is another challenge that many women face. While worklife balance is a concern for all leaders, women are often expected to take on a greater share of domestic responsibilities, which can make it more difficult to dedicate time and energy to their careers. However, many female CEOs have found ways to navigate this challenge, often through strong support systems and by advocating for more flexible work policies. Some have used their positions to drive change within their organizations, implementing family-friendly policies that benefit all employees. By leading by example, these women are challenging traditional notions of work-life balance and showing that it is possible to achieve both professional success and personal fulfillment.
Despite these challenges, female CEOs have consistently demonstrated resilience and perseverance. Their ability to overcome obstacles and navigate complex environments has become one of their greatest strengths. Many women leaders have faced setbacks and biases but have used these experiences to fuel their determination and drive. For example, Ginni Rometty, the former CEO of IBM, faced numerous challenges as she led the company through a period of significant transformation. Her ability to stay focused, adapt to change, and maintain a long-term vision was instrumental in IBM’s success. Rometty’s story is a powerful reminder that resilience is a key trait of effective leadership and that challenges can often be the catalyst for growth.Female CEOs are not only making their mark by breaking barriers; they are also redefining leadership itself. Their unique qualities and approaches to leadership are increasingly recognized as essential for navigating today’s complex and rapidly changing business environment. This section explores the distinct leadership styles that female CEOs bring to the table and why these qualities are crucial for the future of corporate leadership.
One of the defining characteristics of female CEOs is their strong sense of empathy and emotional intelligence. These qualities allow women leaders to build deep connections with their teams, understand diverse perspectives,
and foster a supportive and inclusive work environment. In a world where employee engagement and well-being are critical to business success, these traits are invaluable.
Empathy enables female CEOs to lead with a people-first approach, prioritizing the needs and development of their employees. This not only boosts morale and productivity but also creates a culture of trust and collaboration. In times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, this leadership style has proven to be particularly effective in maintaining employee engagement and organizational stability.
Female CEOs are also known for their collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership. Rather than relying on hierarchical structures, women leaders often emphasize teamwork, shared decision-making, and collective problem-solving. This inclusive leadership style encourages diverse perspectives and ideas, leading to more innovative solutions and better decision-making outcomes. For example, Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, has long advocated for inclusive leadership and the importance of bringing diverse voices to the table. Her approach has been instrumental in shaping Facebook’s corporate culture and in driving the company’s success in a competitive and rapidly evolving industry.
Another key strength of female CEOs is their focus on long-term vision and strategic thinking. Women leaders tend to prioritize sustainable growth over short-term gains, making decisions that are in the best interest of the company’s future. This forward-looking approach is particularly valuable in today’s business environment, where companies must navigate complex challenges such as technological disruption, globalization, and environmental sustainability. Female CEOs are also more likely to take a holistic view of business success, considering not only financial performance but also social and environmental impact. This broader perspective aligns with the growing emphasis on corporate responsibility and sustainability, making female leaders well-suited to guide companies through the challenges of the 21st century.
In today’s fast-paced and unpredictable business environment, adaptability and agility are critical leadership qualities. Female CEOs often excel in these areas, showing a remarkable ability to pivot in response to changing circumstances and to lead their organizations through periods of uncertainty. This adaptability is partly due to the unique challenges that women have faced in their careers, which have often required them to be resourceful and resilient. As a result, female CEOs are particularly adept
at managing change, navigating crises, and seizing new opportunities. Their ability to lead with agility is a significant asset in a world where change is the only constant.
As we look to the future, it is clear that female CEOs are not just part of a temporary trend— they are the vanguard of a new era of leadership. The qualities that women bring to their roles as CEOs—empathy, collaboration, longterm thinking, and adaptability—are exactly what is needed to navigate the complex challenges of the modern world. This section explores why the future of corporate leadership is increasingly female and what this means for businesses and society as a whole.
The global business environment is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by technological advancements, shifting consumer expectations, and the increasing importance of social and environmental responsibility. In this context, traditional leadership models are becoming less effective, and companies are recognizing the need for a new approach to leadership—one that is more inclusive, empathetic, and forward-thinking.Female CEOs are uniquely positioned to lead in this new environment. Their ability to navigate complexity, foster innovation, and build inclusive cultures makes them ideal leaders for the future. As businesses continue to evolve, the demand for leaders who can think differently and drive positive change will only increase, paving the way for more women to rise to the top.
The future of female leadership will also be shaped by policy and advocacy efforts aimed at promoting gender equality in the workplace. Governments, organizations, and advocacy groups around the world are increasingly recognizing the importance of female leadership and are taking steps to create more opportunities for women to advance in their careers. In the UAE, for example, initiatives such as the UAE Gender Balance Council and the National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women are helping to create a more supportive environment for women leaders. These efforts, combined with global movements like #MeToo and HeForShe, are driving cultural and institutional changes that will accelerate the rise of female CEOs.The rise of female CEOs is not only transforming businesses but also has broader implications for society. Women leaders are more likely to prioritize corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and ethical business practices. As more women assume leadership roles, these values will become more deeply embedded in corporate culture, leading to more responsible and sustainable business practices. Moreover, female
One of the most pervasive challenges facing female CEOs is gender bias. Despite progress in gender equality, stereotypes about women’s capabilities and leadership styles persist. Women leaders are often judged more harshly than their male counterparts, facing greater scrutiny and higher expectations. This double standard can make it more difficult for women to be recognized for their achievements and to advance in their careers. Moreover, women often have to navigate the fine line between being perceived as too aggressive or too soft. This “double bind” can make it challenging for female leaders to assert themselves without facing backlash. However, many women CEOs have learned to turn these biases into strengths, using their emotional intelligence and communication skills to build strong, collaborative teams.
Another significant barrier for women aspiring to CEO roles is access to networks and resources. Historically, leadership positions have been dominated by men, who often have access to exclusive networks and opportunities that can accelerate their career progression. Women, on the other hand, may find it more difficult to break into these networks, limiting their access to mentors, sponsors, and high-profile assignments. However, the rise of women’s leadership networks and organizations is helping to level the playing field. Initiatives like Lean In, Women on Boards, and the International Women’s Forum are providing women with the connections, support, and resources they need to succeed in leadership roles. These networks are not only helping women advance in their careers but are also creating a stronger pipeline of female leaders for the future.
CEOs serve as powerful role models for the next generation of leaders. Their success stories inspire young women to pursue their ambitions and challenge traditional gender roles. This ripple effect is helping to create a more equitable and inclusive society, where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender.
Looking ahead, the next generation of female CEOs will be even more diverse and dynamic. As more women enter leadership roles in traditionally male-dominated industries like technology, finance, and engineering, they will bring new perspectives and approaches that will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible. Education and mentorship will play a critical role in preparing these future leaders. By providing young women with the skills, knowledge, and networks they need to succeed, we can ensure that the pipeline of female leadership continues to grow. Organizations that invest in the development of female talent will be well-positioned to thrive in the future.
The rise of female CEOs is not just a milestone for gender equality; it is a signal of the profound changes taking place in the world of business. Women are not only capable of leading; they are proving to be some of the most
Female CEOs are often more risk-aware, focusing on sustaiable, long-term growth rather than short-term gains. Their leadership styles typically emphasize collaboration, transparency, and strategic foresight.
effective and visionary leaders of our time. As we move forward, it is essential to continue breaking down the barriers that women face and to create an environment where all leaders, regardless of gender, can thrive.
While significant progress has been made, the journey towards gender parity in leadership is far from over. It is crucial that we continue to advocate for policies and practices that support the advancement of women in business. This includes everything from equal pay and flexible work arrangements to access to education and leadership development programs. Companies must also play their part by fostering a culture of inclusion and by actively promoting diversity in their leadership teams. By doing so, they can unlock the full potential of their workforce and drive long-term success.
Achieving gender equality in leadership is not just a women’s issue—it requires the support and involvement of men as well. Male leaders have a critical role to play in advocating for gender diversity, mentoring female colleagues, and challenging the biases that hold women back. By becoming allies in this effort, men can help create a more equitable and inclusive business environment.
Finally, it is essential to focus on empowering the next generation of female leaders. This means providing young women with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, from education and mentorship to career development and networking opportunities. By investing in the future of female leadership, we can ensure that the progress we have made continues and that women remain at the forefront of global leadership.
The future of leadership is bright, and female CEOs are leading the way. Their unique qualities, resilience, and determination are transforming the business world and setting new standards for what leadership can and should be. As more women rise to the top, they will continue to shape the future of global leadership, driving innovation, growth, and positive change.
In conclusion, female CEOs are not just the future—they are the present, and their impact will only grow in the years to come. By supporting and empowering women in leadership, we are not only promoting gender equality but also building a stronger, more inclusive, and more successful future for businesses and society as a whole. The time to act is now, and the future is female.
In the dynamic world of entrepreneurship, a unique and increasingly influential group of business leaders is emerging: Mompreneurs. These are women who have taken on the dual role of motherhood and entrepreneurship, balancing the demands of raising children with the challenges of building and running successful businesses. What sets mompreneurs apart is not just their ability to juggle these responsibilities but the way they leverage their emotional intelligence (EQ) to drive business success.
The term “mompreneur” captures the essence of a growing trend where mothers are stepping into the entrepreneurial space, creating businesses that often cater to needs they have personally identified through their experiences as parents. From innovative baby products to services that make life easier for other parents, mompreneurs are turning their insights into profitable ventures.
This rise is fueled by several factors, including the desire for greater work-life flexibility, the ability to pursue a passion, and the need to contribute financially while managing the demands of family life. Mompreneurs are rewriting the rules of business, proving that motherhood and entrepreneurship are not mutually exclusive but can be a powerful combination.
Central to the success of many mompreneurs is their high level of emotional intelligence (EQ). EQ, often defined as the ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions and those of others, is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in effective leadership and business success. For mompreneurs, who constantly navigate the emotional landscapes of both their families and their businesses, EQ is not just an asset— it’s a necessity.
One of the key components of EQ is empathy, the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. For mompreneurs, this empathy often extends naturally from their roles as mothers into their businesses. They

are adept at understanding the needs and desires of their customers—many of whom are other parents—and this deep understanding allows them to create products and services that resonate on a personal level.
For example, a mompreneur who has struggled to find a particular type of educational toy for her children may be uniquely positioned to develop a product that fills that gap. Her firsthand experience gives her insight into what other parents are looking for, and her empathy allows her to connect with her customers in a meaningful way, building strong relationships and brand loyalty.
Another critical aspect of EQ is adaptability, the ability to adjust one’s thinking and behavior in response to changing circumstances. Motherhood is a constant exercise in adaptability, as parents must continuously respond to the unpredictable needs and moods of their children. Mompreneurs bring this adaptability into their businesses, where it becomes a key driver of innovation and resilience.
In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship, the ability to pivot quickly and effectively in
response to challenges is essential. Mompreneurs often excel in this area, using their problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles and find creative solutions. Whether it’s managing supply chain issues or responding to customer feedback, their adaptability ensures that their businesses remain agile and responsive.
Mompreneurs also bring strong leadership qualities to their businesses, many of which are rooted in their experiences as mothers. Leading a family requires patience, communication, and the ability to inspire and guide others—skills that are directly transferable to the business world.
These women are often highly skilled at building and leading teams, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where employees feel valued and motivated. Their leadership style tends to be inclusive and empathetic, which not only enhances team cohesion but also drives productivity and innovation. In businesses led by mompreneurs, employees often report higher levels of job satisfaction and engagement, which contributes to the overall success of the company.
The number of mompreneurs has grown significantly in recent years, with estimates suggesting that 40% of small businesses in the U.S. are owned by women, and a substantial portion of these are mompreneurs balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship.
indicates that businesses led by emotionally intelligent leaders, such as mompreneurs, are 30% more likely to report high levels of employee satisfaction and engagement, which directly correlates with improved business performance.
Perhaps one of the most significant ways mompreneurs leverage their EQ is in their approach to work-life integration. Unlike the traditional notion of work-life balance, which often implies a strict separation between professional and personal life, mompreneurs tend to blend the two in a way that reflects their values and priorities.
This integration allows them to be more present and engaged in both areas of their lives, reducing stress and increasing overall well-being. Their ability to manage emotions and set boundaries—key aspects of EQ—enables them to navigate the complexities of their dual roles effectively. This, in turn, makes them more resilient and better equipped to handle the inevitable challenges of entrepreneurship.
The impact of mompreneurs’ high EQ on business success is profound. Businesses led by emotionally intelligent leaders are more likely to thrive in today’s competitive market. These leaders are better at understanding and meeting the needs of their customers, building strong teams, and creating a positive work environment—all of which contribute to longterm success.
Moreover, mompreneurs often bring a unique perspective to the business world, one that values relationships, community, and social responsibility. This perspective not only differentiates their businesses but also aligns with the growing consumer demand for companies that prioritize people over profit.
As mompreneurs continue to carve out a significant niche in the entrepreneurial landscape, their influence extends far beyond the businesses they create. These women are not only redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur, but they are also reshaping societal norms and contributing to broader economic growth. Their success stories are paving the
way for more inclusive and diverse leadership in the business world, challenging traditional gender roles, and inspiring future generations to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions without sacrificing their personal lives. Economic Contributions
The economic impact of mompreneurs cannot be overstated. By creating businesses that address real needs within their communities, they are generating employment opportunities, stimulating local economies, and contributing to GDP growth. Many mompreneurs start small, home-based businesses that grow into substantial enterprises, employing others and expanding their reach. This grassroots approach to business development often leads to sustainable growth, as these businesses are deeply rooted in their communities and driven by a genuine understanding of their customers’ needs.
Moreover, the success of mompreneurs encourages other women to enter the workforce or start their own businesses, further boosting economic participation and diversity. As more women see examples of successful mompreneurs, they are inspired to explore entrepreneurship as a viable career path, leading to a ripple effect of increased female entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
Mompreneurs are also making a significant social impact by serving as role models for other women and girls. Their ability to balance motherhood and business challenges the stereotype that women must choose between career and family. Instead, they demonstrate that it is possible to excel in both areas, provided there is determination, resilience, and the right support systems in place. This role modeling is particularly important for young girls who may one day aspire to be both mothers and business leaders. By witnessing the achievements of mompreneurs, these young women can envision a future where they do not have to compromise their personal goals for their professional ambitions. This shift in perspective can lead to greater gender equality in the workplace and a more diverse pool of talent in leadership positions.
Looking ahead, the future of mompreneurship is bright. As society continues to evolve and embrace more flexible work arrangements, the barriers to starting and growing a business while raising a family are gradually being dismantled. Technological advancements, such as digital platforms and
e-commerce, have made it easier than ever for mompreneurs to reach a global audience, scale their businesses, and connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs.
In addition, the growing recognition of the value of emotional intelligence in leadership is likely to further elevate the status of mompreneurs. As businesses increasingly prioritize employee well-being, customer satisfaction, and corporate social responsibility, the empathetic and inclusive leadership style that mompreneurs often bring to the table will become even more sought after.
Despite their many successes, mompreneurs still face unique challenges, including access to capital, balancing time between business and family, and overcoming societal expectations. However, these challenges also present
opportunities for growth and innovation. For instance, the rise of mompreneur-focused networks, incubators, and funding programs is helping to address some of these barriers, providing mompreneurs with the resources and support they need to thrive.
Furthermore, as the global economy becomes more interconnected, mompreneurs have the opportunity to expand their businesses beyond their local markets. By leveraging digital tools and platforms, they can reach new customers, explore new markets, and collaborate with other entrepreneurs around the world. This global expansion not only boosts their own businesses but also contributes to the diversification and resilience of the global economy.
In conclusion, mompreneurs are more than just business owners—they are pioneers of
Studies show that 60% of mompreneurs report better work-life integration compared to their peers, attributing their success to high emotional intelligence and the ability to manage stress effectively 60%
a new way of thinking about work, family, and leadership. Their ability to harness emotional intelligence, navigate complex challenges, and drive meaningful change sets them apart in the entrepreneurial world. As they continue to grow and succeed, mompreneurs are leaving a lasting legacy that will influence future generations of entrepreneurs and shape the future of business for years to come.
Their stories remind us that entrepreneurship is not just about financial success; it is about creating value, fostering connections, and making a positive impact on society. In a world that increasingly values diversity, inclusion, and emotional intelligence, mompreneurs are proving that the skills and experiences gained through motherhood are not just relevant— they are essential for building the businesses of the future. As we look to the future, it is clear that mompreneurs will continue to play a pivotal role in driving innovation, growth, and social change in the global economy.

Growing up in a society where girls were often steered towards more conventional roles, Suad’s fascination with aviation and mechanics was seen as unusual. However, she never allowed societal expectations to deter her from pursuing her dreams. With a determination that belied her years, Suad decided to turn her passion into a profession. This decision led her to pursue a dual degree in Aeronautical Engineering and Aviation Management—a combination that would equip her with both the technical know-how and the strategic insight needed to excel in the competitive world of aviation.
Dr. Suad Al Shamsi’s journey to becoming a trailblazer in the aviation industry is as remarkable as it is inspiring. From a young age, Suad demonstrated a curiosity and passion that set her apart from her peers. While other children engaged in traditional pastimes, Suad found herself captivated by machines—airplanes, cars, and anything mechanical. Her interest wasn’t superficial; she wanted to understand how these machines worked. This innate curiosity led her to take things apart and put them back together, a skill that would become a hallmark of her approach to problem-solving throughout her life.
Her education was more than just a steppingstone; it was a launching pad. The rigorous training in Aeronautical Engineering gave her a deep understanding of the technical aspects of aircraft design, while her studies in Aviation Management provided her with the tools to navigate the complex business landscape of the industry. This unique blend of skills laid a strong foundation for her future endeavors and set her apart from her contemporaries.
“Success is not just about achieving your goals; it's about inspiring others to reach theirs. As women, we have the power to uplift each other and create a ripple effect of positive change in the world of business
Dr. Suad Al Shamsi’s career has been defined by her unwavering commitment to challenging the status quo. From the very beginning, she questioned why so many people seemed content to follow established paths without injecting creativity or passion into their pursuits. For Suad, conformity was never an option. She believed that true success could only be achieved by making a meaningful difference—by pushing boundaries and thinking outside the box.
This mindset has driven Suad throughout her career. Whether she was developing innovative solutions in the aviation industry or launching her own company, Suad has always approached her work with a sense of purpose. She reminds herself that passion is her driving force, even during times when financial rewards are not immediate. For her, the joy of making a difference and improving the status quo far outweighs any monetary gain.
Suad’s commitment to innovation is
evident in every aspect of her work. She doesn’t just accept things as they are; she constantly looks for ways to improve and innovate. This relentless pursuit of excellence has earned her a reputation as a visionary leader in the aviation industry. But Suad’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Like many innovators, she has faced obstacles and setbacks along the way. However, she has always viewed these challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Her resilience and determination have been key to her success.
The path of entrepreneurship is often fraught with challenges, and Dr. Suad Al Shamsi’s journey has been no exception. When she founded her company, L2L, she had high aspirations and a clear vision for the future. However, she quickly realized that the road to success was not as straightforward as she had imagined. Her early ventures were marked by a series of setbacks, many of which stemmed from a lack of proper planning and market research.
Initially, Suad believed that in order to succeed, she needed to come up with groundbreaking innovations—ideas that would revolutionize the aviation industry. However, as she navigated the complexities of entrepreneurship, she learned that innovation doesn’t always have to be groundbreaking or expensive. Sometimes, the most effective innovations are those that address simple, yet critical, needs within the market.
One of the key lessons Suad learned early on was the importance of understanding her customers. In the beginning, she had a vision of what she wanted to create, but she didn’t always take the time to fully understand the needs and preferences of her target market. This lack of insight led to some early missteps, but it also provided valuable lessons. Recognizing the gaps in her approach, Suad took a step back and reevaluated her strategy. She conducted extensive market research, developed a comprehensive business plan, and tested her ideas both locally and globally.
This shift in approach proved to be a turning point for L2L. By focusing on understanding her customers and addressing their needs, Suad was able to develop a more robust business model. Over time, L2L established itself as a leading consultant and event company in the aviation industry. Suad’s ability to learn from her mistakes and adapt her approach has been key to her success. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder that entrepreneurship is not just about having great ideas—it’s about executing those ideas effectively and being willing to pivot when necessary.
Dr. Suad Al Shamsi’s success in the aviation industry is not just a result of her passion and determination—it’s also a testament to her strategic thinking and deep industry insights. Starting an aviation business is no small feat.
Entrepreneurship is not just about financial success; it’s about passion and purpose. The joy of making a difference and improving the status quo far outweighs any monetary gain
It requires a thorough understanding of the industry, a well-crafted business plan, and the ability to navigate complex regulations and high capital requirements.
Suad emphasizes the importance of strategic planning in any entrepreneurial venture. She believes that building a strong brand and leveraging new technologies are crucial for success in the aviation industry. Her approach is informed by a deep understanding of industry trends and a keen awareness of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
One area where Suad has made a significant impact is in aircraft design and interiors. She understands that in order to stay competitive in the aviation industry, businesses must continually innovate. Whether it’s improving the efficiency of aircraft design or enhancing the passenger experience, Suad is always
Challenges are not roadblocks—they are opportunities to learn, grow, and innovate. I’ve always believed that resilience is key to success in any field “
However, Suad’s success has not come without its challenges. As a woman in a male-dominated industry, she has faced her fair share of obstacles. Gender bias and stereotypes often create barriers to funding, resources, and opportunities for women in aviation. Suad has experienced these challenges firsthand, and she has become a strong advocate for gender equality in the field.
One of the ways Suad addresses these challenges is by promoting networking, collaboration, and mentoring. She believes that by supporting one another and working together, women in the aviation industry can break down barriers and achieve greater success. Her advocacy for gender equality is not just about creating opportunities for women— it’s about creating a more inclusive and di-
verse industry that benefits everyone.
One of the keys to Dr. Suad Al Shamsi’s success has been her ability to balance focus with innovation. In a fast-paced and ever-changing industry like aviation, it can be easy to get distracted by the latest trends and technologies. However, Suad understands the importance of staying focused on her goals while also remaining open to new ideas and opportunities.
Suad has developed strategies for managing her time effectively and staying on track with her goals. She emphasizes the importance of creating valuable content, exploring new opportunities through innovation and technology, and developing actionable plans. By maintaining a clear focus on her objectives, Suad is able to ensure that her efforts translate into tangible results.
Building a strong team has also been a key element of Suad’s approach. She understands that no one can achieve success alone, and she places a high value on collaboration and teamwork. By surrounding herself with talented and dedicated individuals,
“
Aspiring female aircraft engineers should believe in themselves and their abilities... Getting involved in extracurricular activities, attending conferences, and volunteering time can help develop the skills needed to succeed
she ensures that her business remains on the cutting edge of the industry.
Monitoring progress is another important aspect of Suad’s approach. She believes that it’s not enough to set goals and develop plans—you also need to track your progress and make adjustments as needed. This methodical and strategic focus helps her stay on track and make the most of her time, ensuring that her efforts are always aligned with her larger vision.
Dr. Suad Al Shamsi’s vision for the future extends beyond traditional measures of success. While financial success is certainly important, Suad is equally focused on achieving non-financial goals that align with her broader vision of sustainable growth and profitability. She believes that by setting clear goals and visualizing her ideal future, she can ensure that her business not only thrives but also contributes positively to the industry and the community.
Suad’s vision is rooted in a desire to make a lasting impact on the world. She is committed to creating a business that is not only
successful but also sustainable and socially responsible. By focusing on both financial and non-financial goals, she ensures that her business remains aligned with her values and her larger mission.
One of the ways Suad is working towards this vision is by embracing innovation and technology. She believes that new technologies have the potential to revolutionize the aviation industry and create new opportunities for growth. However, she also understands that innovation must be balanced with a focus on sustainability and social responsibility. For Suad, success is not just about achieving financial milestones—it’s about creating a business that makes a positive difference in the world.
In a world that often equates success with stress and burnout, Dr. Suad Al Shamsi advocates for a more holistic approach. She believes that true success should encompass well-being, wisdom, and the ability to give back to the community. For Suad, success is not just about achieving professional milestones; it’s about thriving in all aspects of life.
Her perspective on success challenges conventional metrics and encourages others to redefine what it means to be successful. By focusing on personal fulfillment as well as professional achievement, Suad demonstrates that it is possible to build a successful business while also leading a balanced and fulfilling life.
Suad’s approach to success is not just about achieving her own goals—it’s about inspiring others to pursue their dreams and challenge the status quo. Through her work, she continues to make a meaningful impact on the aviation industry and the world, proving that with the right mindset and approach, anything is possible.

Dr. Mariam Shaikh’s journey in this sector has been truly remarkable. As we began our conversation, she talked to us about her background and journey that led to establishing MS Education Consultants, “I am from Mumbai, India, and I’ve lived in the United Arab Emirates for 38 years. Throughout my 35-plus years of career in education, I’ve held a variety of responsibilities and accomplished important milestones. The foundation of my preschool in the 1980s marked the beginning of my adventure, which also included positions in K–12 schools as a principal and as a Senior Leader at Canadian University Dubai, Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus, and Amity University Dubai.
I decided that it was time for me to take a break and retire as the vice president of Amity University Dubai in January 2020. I flew back to my home in Mumbai and thought of a peaceful retirement life taking care of my art gallery. My plans were unexpectedly changed by the lockdown, and I realized that I was not ready for retirement yet. There were goals I wanted to achieve in the field of education, rather, my goal was to start my own company MS Education Consultants, in Dubai. From day one, I have always been driven by a passion for Higher Education, Student Recruitment, Marketing, Strategic Development, International Relations, and Student Experience. SONIA JOSEPH
CEO 50 Women Leaders 2024
In a world brimming with ambitious dreams and relentless aspirations, Sonia’s story stands out as a inspiration to the power of quiet determination, the kind that is often born in the unlikeliest of places. Her journey from a shy, introspective child to a formidable entrepreneur has been nothing short of extraordinary—a narrative woven with perseverance, innovation, and an unyielding belief in the potential of one’s own dreams.
Sonia’s early years were defined by simplicity and introspection. She wasn’t the brightest student in class, nor was she the most outspoken. Instead, she found comfort in the quiet corners of life, where she could indulge in her love for video games, cycling, and the meticulous art of building Lego creations. While her peers radiated confidence and ambition, Sonia was the quiet observer, the thoughtful analyzer who spent hours pondering the intricacies of the world around her.
It was during these formative years that Sonia’s love for problem-solving and innovation began to take root. While she may not have harbored grand ambitions at the time, the seeds of her future endeavors were unknowingly sown in those quiet moments of reflection. Her relentless curiosity and desire to understand how things worked would later fuel her entrepreneurial drive, propelling her toward building an empire of her own.
The spark of Entrepreneurship was ignited during Sonia’s time in Dubai, a city synonymous with ambition and opportunity. Working in the structured world of auditing, Sonia found herself drawn to the idea of building something from the ground up—a notion that first surfaced during a casual conversation with her younger brother Aniket about a
potential export business. This seemingly innocuous discussion awakened a curiosity within her, one that soon evolved into a burning desire to create her own path.
Dubai’s dynamic environment, filled with countless success stories and boundless opportunities, served as the perfect catalyst for Sonia’s entrepreneurial journey. It was here that she realized the potential to transform her ideas into tangible realities.
The city’s infectious energy instilled in her a belief that she could achieve anything she set her mind to. Supported by her family and fueled by a growing desire for independence, Sonia took the first steps toward building her business empire.
Launching a business is never easy, and Sonia’s journey was no exception. She established Cogni Stride Trading LLC in 2018 with limited resources and a burgeoning vision, she relied heavily on her network and an unwavering determination to succeed. Every sale, every milestone, felt like a monumental achievement in those early days. Sonia and her team were constantly learning, adapting, and overcoming hurdles—each challenge serving as a steppingstone toward greater success.
At the core of Sonia’s business strategy was an unrelenting focus on the customer. By deeply understanding their needs and consistently exceeding expectations, she cultivated a sense of trust and loyalty that became the cornerstone of her success. She also recognized the importance of surrounding herself with talented individuals who shared her vision, investing in their growth

Born in Egypt, Sofia’s early life was deeply rooted in a culture that often steered girls away from physically demanding pursuits. Yet, from a young age, she was captivated by the world of athletics, particularly running. Her journey, however, was not without challenges—both societal and personal, but Sofia’s commitment to her passion has shaped her into the inspirational figure she is today.
Sofia’s love for running was evident from her school years. “I remember my sports teacher noticing how I always wanted to run, that was when I realized how much I enjoyed pushing my limits,” Sofia recalls. One of Sofia’s most remarkable achievements was completing a marathon in Dubai, which included a grueling climb up the highest mountain in the UAE. “It was one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever faced, the climb took 16 hours, and every step was a test of my physical and mental strength.” Sofia shares.

However, growing up in a society where traditional gender roles were strictly enforced posed significant challenges. “My parents were concerned, They worried about the physical demands of running and believed I should focus on more traditional, feminine activities,” Sofia explains. But Sofia was undeterred. Instead, she saw these challenges as opportunities to prove not only to her family but to herself, that her passion for running was more than just a phase.
Sofia’s commitment to athletics, despite societal pressure, is a powerful demonstration of her resilience. “There were times when the resistance I faced made me question my path, but I used that resistance as fuel to keep going.” Sofia admits. Balancing academic success with
Supporting her son, who is also an athlete, is a central focus for Sofia. “Marko’s development as an athlete is incredibly important to me,” she says. “I want to guide him and offer him the freedom to explore his passions, ensuring he has the opportunities to thrive.” For Sofia, building a strong support system is crucial. “I rely on a network of supportive individuals to help manage responsibilities and maintain balance,” she adds.
Sofia’s journey is underpinned by a deep belief in the power of self-confidence and perseverance. “Believing in yourself is the first step toward achieving your dreams,” she asserts. “Your abilities and potential are limitless. No dream is too big if you dare to pursue it.”
This mindset has been especially important as Sofia prepares for her next major challenge—a 100 km race next year. “Preparing for such a significant distance requires both physical and mental fortitude. She envisioned a life of personal satisfaction, happiness, and making a positive impact on the lives of others. These aspirations have driven her throughout her life, shaping her approach to both her career and personal life.
Tara’s entrepreneurial spark ignited during her time working in various salons. Although she loved her career and was passionate about her work, she often felt a sense of disconnection, as though she didn’t quite belong. This feeling of being out of place, coupled with a deep desire for a sense of community and belonging, led her to a pivotal decision: to create her own space where she could cultivate the kind of environment she longed for—a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive salon.
Her entrepreneurial adventure began with this decision to open her own salon. Tara’s journey was marked by the realization that success is not a solitary pursuit but one that thrives on collaboration, support, and shared vision. She understood the importance of surrounding herself with the right people—individuals who could inspire, motivate, and contribute to the growth and success of her venture. It was quite unexpected.” She gave us a clear picture of her background.
Dr. Chiara Stocco’s inspiration to pursue a career in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery stemmed from a deep desire to blend art with medicine, helping patients restore both form and function. Over the years, her journey has evolved through rigorous training, extensive experience in elite hospitals, and a commitment to staying at the forefront of surgical advancements.
“During my fifth year of medical school, I discovered my passion for enhancing patients’ quality of life through reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures. After training in Italy, where I handled complex cases following burns, cancer, and trauma, I now focus primarily on elective aesthetic surgery. Drawing on my background in reconstruction, I provide the highest level of safety and expertise to my patients, ensuring beautiful results and a secure surgical experience that enhances their self-esteem and well-being.” Dr. Chiara told us about her inspiration for choosing this career.
After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Dr. Chiara pursued her specialist diploma in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery from the University of Trieste in 2018, followed by a PhD in Nanotechnology. She discussed the significance of her PhD and said,
“I’ve always been fascinated by the underlying mechanisms of wound healing and the regenerative processes in medicine, which led me to apply for a highly selective and challenging PhD program. Over three years, I conducted hands-on research, working with stem cells in both in vitro and in vivo models. The ultimate aim was to develop a scaffold for vascular angiogenesis—work that, in essence, could potentially advance the field of regenerative medicine.” Dr. Chiara’s expertise spans a wide range of procedures, with a particular focus on aesthetic breast surgery, including breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction. She told us about the most rewarding aspects of performing aesthetic breast surgeries as,
“Many women’s confidence is linked to the appearance of their breasts, which can be impacted by malformation, weight loss, or pregnancy. While aesthetic procedures are not necessary for survival, they can greatly improve a woman’s self-esteem and quality of life when psychological well-being is affected.” She spoke. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Chiara is deeply committed to staying at the forefront of her field. She regularly participates in international conferences and training courses, ensuring to up to date with the latest techniques and advancements in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
“Keeping up with the latest advancements in plastic surgery is crucial for providing optimal care to patients. I am honoured to be a frequent faculty member and speaker at global con-
ferences, where I can learn from colleagues, discover new trends, and evaluate emerging techniques. This helps me stay innovative and incorporate safe and effective practices into my work.” She affirmed. Dr. Chiara Stocco recalls a particularly memorable case where plastic surgery profoundly transformed a patient’s life, restoring both their confidence and sense of self. This experience underscores the remarkable impact that skilled surgical intervention can have on a person’s physical and emotional well-being.
“A 25-year-old engineering student struggled socially due to loose skin after losing 40 kilograms. Through counselling and a full body contouring procedure, she gained confidence and joy in her new body. This case exemplifies the emotional benefits of plastic surgery supported by psychological preparation. It goes beyond physical changes, focusing on restoring self-esteem and allowing patients to reclaim their lives.” She blushed with pride. Dr. Chiara Stocco emphasizes the importance of carefully balancing aesthetic goals with preserving her patients’ natural appearance, ensuring that each procedure enhances their unique features without compromising authenticity. She added,
“Growing up in Italy, I was surrounded by the art of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, which heavily influenced my aesthetic surgery approach. I believe in achieving a balance between aesthetic goals and natural appearance. My surgeries enhance natural harmony, refining, and accentuating features rather than altering them, resulting in beautiful and harmonious results.” Before wrapping up, Dr. Chiara envisions advancing her expertise in plastic surgery, aspiring to contribute to the field’s evolution through innovative techniques and deeper integration of regenerative medicine in the coming years.
“I aim to keep up to date with the latest trends in plastic surgery to provide my patients with informed and effective treatments. I am dedicated to integrating new techniques and knowledge into my practice, with a focus on minimally invasive procedures that yield excellent results and shorter recovery times. I look forward to advancing in this field to enhance patient experiences and outcomes.” With this beautiful message, she concluded this insightful conversation.

PRIYANKA PAHWA
In the busy modern world, where stress and responsibilities are often prioritized, yoga provides a peaceful haven for self-discovery. Priyanka Pahwa, a seasoned yoga practitioner and teacher, has made it her mission to guide others on their journey towards balance and well-being. With a deep connection to the principles of yoga from a young age, Priyanka has developed a unique approach that blends traditional practices with modern mindfulness techniques. Her story is not just one of personal growth but also of inspiring countless others to reconnect with their true selves. In this conversation, Priyanka shares insights from her yoga journey and the integration of spirituality in her practices.
As we started our conversation, Priyanka began by introducing herself and sharing the roots of her yoga journey.
“My name is Priyanka Pahwa, and yoga has been a cornerstone of my life from an early age. What started as a simple curiosity quickly deepened into a profound connection with the practice’s principles. Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in both traditional and modern aspects of yoga, integrating its wisdom into my daily life. This dedication has led me to develop a unique approach that combines classical yoga techniques with contemporary mindfulness practices. My background includes extensive training and personal experience that enriches my teaching, and I’m passionate about guiding others on their paths to self-discovery and well-being.”
She shares how yoga became more than just a practice for her—it evolved into a way of life. “My journey with yoga began as a search for balance and inner peace amidst life’s complexities. From a young age, I was captivated by yoga’s transformative power, not just as a physical practice but as a holistic way of living. What truly inspired me to embrace yoga as a way of life was witnessing its profound effect on emotional and spiritual well-being.” She said with enthusiasm.
Priyanka then elaborates on how she incorporates both traditional and modern practices in her sessions, creating a holistic experience for her students.
“In my sessions, I blend traditional yoga practices with modern mindfulness techniques to create a transformative experience.” She incorporates time-honoured techniques like asanas, pranayama, and meditation to fully embrace the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga. Additionally, she integrates mindfulness techniques tailored for today’s fast-paced world, focusing on present-moment awareness, emotional intelligence, and stress resilience. “By guiding my clients to stay fully present in each movement, I help them develop a deeper connection to their bodies and minds.” Priyanka believes this combination of traditional and modern practices offers a holistic approach that addresses the needs of contemporary lifestyles, providing practical tools for navigating daily challenges with ease and presence.
As the conversation continued, we asked Priyanka about the significant benefits yoga offers, especially for women professionals facing stress, she replied,
“Yoga has so many incredible benefits, especially for women professionals who are dealing with the everyday pressures of work and life. First and foremost, yoga is a fantastic stress reliever. It’s a practice that helps calm the mind and body, which is crucial for women who are constantly juggling multiple responsibilities. By focusing on deep breathing and mindfulness, yoga can help lower stress levels and bring a sense of emotional balance, making it easier to handle whatever challenges come your way.”
She emphasizes the importance of mental clarity and physical well-being, “Another huge benefit is the way yoga sharpens focus and mental clarity. In a fast-paced work environment, staying present and focused is key, and yoga teaches you how to do just that. Physically, yoga is amazing for boosting energy and overall well-being. It strengthens and tones the body, which is so important for women who might be spending a lot of time at a desk. Plus, the increased flexibility and better posture that comes from yoga can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the day.”
Reflecting on her teaching experiences, Priyanka shares a memorable story of transformation.
“One of the most unforgettable moments in my teaching journey happened after a particularly deep and introspective yoga session. A young woman, weighed down by stress and emotions, released her burdens through postures and breathwork. Her energy shifted, and she softened into the practice, releasing pent-up emotions. She seemed to be releasing something with each exhale, softening into the practice in a way that was both beautiful and powerful.”
She recalls the moment of profound emotional release that followed. “When the session ended, she remained on her mat for a few extra minutes. As she slowly sat up, I noticed tears streaming down her face. She wasn’t just crying—she was releasing. It was as if the practice had opened up a floodgate of emotions that she had been holding inside for so long. It was a profound reminder of the power of yoga—not just as a physical practice, but as a means of emotional healing and self-discovery.”
Priyanka concludes by sharing her future aspirations in the field of yoga.
“My future aspirations in yoga are deeply rooted in a desire to continue evolving, both as a practitioner and as a teacher. As a practitioner, I’m committed to deepening my practice by exploring advanced techniques and delving further into the spiritual and philosophical dimensions of yoga. As a teacher, I aspire to create a broader platform where I can reach and uplift more people, perhaps through specialized programs or retreats that address the unique needs of different communities.”
She also expresses her passion for making yoga more accessible to all. “I’m passionate about integrating yoga more deeply into everyday life. Whether it’s bringing yoga into workplaces, schools, or communities, I seek to make it a tool for enhancing well-being and fostering a sense of connection and purpose. Ultimately, my goal is to be a lifelong student of yoga, constantly learning, evolving, and sharing what I’ve gained with others.”

Chef Aira, a driving force behind HERE-O Donuts, has transformed her passion for pastry into a career that blends creativity, tradition, and innovation. Hailing from the Philippines, Chef Aira’s journey from her grandmother’s kitchen to the vibrant culinary scene of Dubai is a story of faith, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence. In this insightful conversation, she shares the experiences, challenges, and inspirations that have shaped her path as an Executive Pastry Chef, bringing Filipino flavours to the global stage and redefining what it means to be a pastry chef in a competitive industry.
Chef Aira begins, reminiscing about her childhood in the Philippines, and says, “My love for food started early, it was my grandmother who first sparked my interest in cooking. Watching her work her magic in the kitchen inspired me to pursue a career in pastry. From those early days, I knew food would be my life’s work.” She added.
Her journey took a significant turn in 2013 when she moved to China.
“China was where my passion took off, I had the opportunity to work for prestigious international hotels like Sheraton in Guilin and Langham in Xiamen. Those experiences were invaluable, but I wanted more. During the pandemic, I started my own online business selling cakes and pastries, which taught me a lot about resilience and creativity in tough times.” she recalls. But it was the UAE that would ultimately become her new home. “To be honest, I almost gave up on pursuing my career in the UAE. I thought it wasn’t the right place for me. But then HERE-O Donuts reached out, and everything changed. It was love at first sight. The company’s values, and the passion of the owners—all resonated with me. I knew I had to stay and be a part of their journey.” she admits.
Her Filipino heritage plays a crucial role in her work at HERE-O Donuts. “I’m incredibly proud of my roots, The management at HERE-O Donuts has given me the freedom to incorporate Filipino flavours into our products. One of my favourites is the Ube Donut, which we developed last year. It’s an all-Filipino recipe using ‘ube’ or purple yam, topped with coconut jelly. It’s not just a donut; it’s a symbol of my culture and a piece of home.” Chef Aira says with a smile. However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. “When I first started in the UAE, I worked at a locally-owned pastry shop in Sharjah. It was a steep learning curve. I had to navigate the rich Arab culture while also finding my style in my creations. There was a constant push and pull between expressing myself and adhering to the local regulations. But those challenges only made me stronger. They prepared me for my role at HERE-O Donuts, where I’ve been able to reach new heights.” she reflects.
Joining HERE-O Donuts was a pivotal decision for her. “What drew me to HERE-O was the company’s environment. It felt like family—a place where creativity is encouraged, and excellence is a shared goal. I knew I could contribute something special to their vision. Every pastry I create is a reflection of that, and I strive to uphold the highest standards in everything we do. Our goal is to be the best iconic donut brand in the UAE, and eventually, the world.” She added with enthusiasm Staying creative in such a fast-paced industry is no easy task, but Chef Aira has a unique source of inspiration. “For me, inspiration is endless, my deep faith in God is what keeps me going. It’s what drives my creativity. I believe that when you do good, good things come back to you. That belief has never let me down. Our recent collaboration with a well-renowned coffee chain is a perfect example. We created six new products for them, but I’m particularly proud of the Tiramisu Donut and the White Mocha Flat Croissant. These creations are not just pastries—they’re the result of faith, hard work, and a little bit of divine inspiration.” She spoke.
Looking back on her achievements, Chef Aira is both humble and proud. “Being the Executive Pastry Chef and Head of Production at HERE-O Donuts is a dream come true, I have a safe space to express my individuality, lead a talented team, and create something that people love. It’s more than I could have ever hoped for.” She affirmed.
Before concluding we asked Aira what advice she would like to give to aspiring pastry chefs and she said, “Do your best, be patient, and be ready to adapt. Know that you’re not in control of everything—there’s a higher power that guides us. It’s challenging to be an international pastry chef, but it’s also a blessing. Dream big, stay grounded, and always be thankful for the gift of life. And while you’re at it, treat yourself to a HERE-O Donut. It’s a small taste of the sweet life we’re all working towards.” she adds with a laugh.

REEM ASAAD
CEO 50 Women Leaaders 2024
RReem Asaad, a prominent Saudi writer, lecturer, and social activist, has been a powerful force in advocating for women’s empowerment in Saudi Arabia. Her journey began in the early 2000s when she entered the finance sector, a field traditionally dominated by men in the conservative Saudi society. Starting her career in local banks, Asaad quickly demonstrated her capabilities and rose through the ranks. By 2003, she had become the Production Manager at the National Commercial Bank in Jeddah, one of the most significant financial institutions in the Kingdom.
Asaad’s professional success in finance was just one aspect of her influential career. Alongside her banking role, she served as Vice Chairman of the Securities Committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where she worked until 2015. This position allowed her to play a pivotal role in shaping financial policies and advocating for more inclusive practices within the industry. Her work in these roles helped pave the way for other women in Saudi Arabia to pursue careers in finance and other traditionally male-dominated fields.
However, Reem Asaad is perhaps best known for her social activism, particularly her bold campaign in 2009 advocating for
women to work in lingerie stores—an effort that would become a turning point for women’s employment in Saudi Arabia. At the time, it was common for men to work in these stores, a practice that many women found uncomfortable and inappropriate. Asaad’s campaign highlighted the need for women to be employed in roles that better served female customers, and it quickly gained traction in the conservative society.
Her advocacy was not without challenges, but her perseverance paid off. In 2011, the Ministry of Labor in Saudi Arabia enacted a law allowing women to work in retail, a monumental shift that created numerous job opportunities for women across the Kingdom. This law was a significant step forward in women’s economic empowerment and opened the door for further reforms aimed at increasing female participation in the workforce.

In 2012, she was ranked third on Arabian Business’s list of the most powerful Arab personalities, a testament to her influence and impact. Through her work, Reem Asaad continues to be a beacon of inspiration, driving positive change and advocating for the rights of women in Saudi Arabia. Her legacy is one of courage, resilience, and a relentless commitment to empowering women in a society where their roles have traditionally been limited. LBorn and raised in the picturesque city of Florence, Italy, Lana’s childhood was steeped in innovation and resilience. Surrounded by a family of entrepreneurs, she always knew that she wanted to create something meaningful. After working with prestigious fashion houses like Armani and Ferragamo in Milan, Lana began to feel a disconnect between her work and its impact on the world.
Driven by a desire for fulfillment, she made a bold decision—resigning from her job without a backup plan. This leap of faith led her to Dubai, where she would meet the love of her life, who encouraged her to start her own agency. With his guidance and the
skills, she had acquired over the years, Lana took the plunge into Entrepreneurship. Her first client, who remains with her to this day, grew exponentially under her guidance, gaining major visibility, securing big deals, and helping countless more people.
Adapting to the UAE market wasn’t without challenges. The fierce competition and price wars in the industry were daunting, but perhaps the hardest part was the loneliness that came with being an entrepreneur. Yet, this isolation-built resilience sparked a curiosity that drove Lana to explore, connect, and ultimately thrive in her new environment.
Lana’s approach to life and business is guided by a unique perspective on balance. Instead of subscribing to the traditional concept of worklife balance, she views life as a series of seasons—each with its own demands. This adaptability has allowed her to create a business that supports not just financial stability but also a fulfilling personal life.
For Lana, success goes beyond financial achievement; it’s about having the freedom to spend quality time with loved ones without the stress of financial worries. Her long-term goal is to continue growing House of Miele in a way that stays true to its vision of helping others achieve the same balance and fulfillment.
Lana’s message to women and girls who dream of becoming something is simple yet powerful: surround yourself with people who uplift you, and never underestimate the impact you can have on the world. Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and the courage to forge your own path.

Their shared interest in discovering and promoting new, unique brands led them to create The Amanqi Consultancy, a platform dedicated to supporting and growing emerging brands in fashion and jewellery.
We started our conversation by asking about their journey that led to the launch of The Amanqi Consultancy and their inspiration to enter the fashion industry. Manal started with a smile, “We have always shared a deep love for fashion and a keen interest in discovering emerging talent. This passion inspired us to create The Amanqi Edit, a platform dedicated to showcasing these cool, up-and-coming brands. As our platform gained traction, we came up with the idea of organising pop-up events, where we brought together a curated selection of contemporary brands under one roof. It was through these pop-ups that we recognised a growing need for dedicated representation of emerging brands, particularly in the realm of fine jewellery. This realisation led us to establish The Amanqi Consultancy, a venture committed to providing strategic guidance and support to emerging brands as they navigate the competitive landscape.”
The UAE’s vibrant design community is a melting pot of creativity, with designers drawing inspiration from the region’s rich cultural heritage and rapid growth. Amani Waqi believes that the unique narratives and exceptional skills displayed by local designers set them apart. “The brands work hard not only to showcase their skills but also to exhibit the region’s stories and artisans’ talents in a unique way that has never been done before,” she says.
“The Emirati design scene is vibrant and growing,” Amani remarks, reflecting on the exponential growth witnessed in recent years. “We’ve been fortunate to be a part of this industry, witnessing the incredible creators who breathe life into their cultural heritage,” Amani says about the Emirati design.
What sets Middle Eastern designers apart is their ability to weave narratives into their creations, transcending mere aesthetics to convey stories deeply rooted in the region’s rich heritage. “The brands work tirelessly to showcase not just their skills, but also the stories and talents of our artisans,” Amani explains, highlighting the profound connection between creativity and cultural expression.
The duo wants to establish their uniqueness and what sets them apart compared to other consultancies in the UAE’s vibrant design community, “What sets The Amanqi Consultancy apart is our deep understanding of the needs and constraints faced by small, emerging brands. We are proud of ourselves, for establishing personal relationships with each client, serving as an extension of their team rather than just a service provider. Our dedicated approach ensures that we are there to guide and support them through every step of their journey, offering tailored solutions to support them in achieving their goals and thriving.”
The Amanqi Consultancy plays a crucial role in this ecosystem by organising events for their clients. In the Middle East region, they regularly organise pop-ups in UAE (such as Ataya), Qatar, and Saudi Arabia curating a selection of seven to eight international and local jewellery brands and their collections around a specific theme.
Identifying and selecting the jewellery and accessory brands that The Amanqi Consultancy represents, is one of the most important things to be considered. They say, “We prioritise brands that showcase a strong brand identity, exceptional storytelling, and unique designs. Beyond these essential factors, we look at each brand’s vision and potential for growth within the market. Our goal is to provide our clients with personalised strategies and support to help them thrive in the competitive fashion industry. By working with brands that possess both artistic merit and commercial viability, we aim to provide our clients with unparalleled opportunities for success and recognition in the industry.”

the key investments that have shaped her career.
Vera’s entrepreneurial spirit began to flourish during her time in China, where she juggled a corporate job with side ventures in angel investments and crypto companies. It was during this period that she discovered her passion for not only investing but also building and nurturing businesses. After leaving China, Vera embarked on a journey that took her to Switzerland, Italy, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, during which she continued to expand her investment portfolio and develop a keen eye for promising brands and companies.
Vera has experience in spotting risky fundraising pitches because she is an angel investor. “I seek out more traditional individuals who have faith in their product, have advanced it in some way, and have demonstrated its financial viability.” Vera asserts that authenticity is essential for companies looking to raise venture financing.
As an angel investor, Vera knows a speculative fundraising pitch when she sees one. She looks for authenticity and true dedication to a project backed by tangible results and a clear growth trajectory. Vera focuses on investments aligned with her interests, particularly women-run start-ups, promoting businesses she’s genuinely interested in and emphasizing the importance of knowing what she invests in.
Vera highlights the significance of genuine commitment to a project, supported by measurable outcomes and a distinct growth trajectory, and makes a distinction between professional fundraisers and enthusiastic creators. Becoming the enthusiastic creator of a firm in which you have genuine investment and being a professional fundraiser are two very different things. “True interest in a project that has demonstrated its potential via tangible outcomes and provides a route for growth is what makes a difference”, according to Vera.
