Welcome to this special edition of Womenpreneur Magazine, dedicated to Modern Living—a concept that has taken on new dimensions as we navigate the complexities of today’s fast-paced, ever-evolving world. In this issue, we explore the diverse facets of modern life and how women, in particular, are redefining what it means to live, work, and thrive in the 21st century.
Modern living is about balance—finding harmony between career aspirations, personal fulfillment, social responsibilities, and self-care. It’s about embracing innovation without losing sight of what grounds us. As the boundaries between work and personal life blur, we are forced to reconsider what it means to live well. How do we achieve success while staying connected to our authentic selves? How do we keep up with the rapid changes in technology and society without sacrificing our mental and emotional well-being?
At the heart of modern living is the concept of adaptability. Women today are embracing change with a level of flexibility that previous generations could not have imagined. Whether it’s adopting new technologies, navigating remote work, or balancing multiple roles in family and business, women are proving themselves to be the driving force behind this shift. They are creating new models for living that prioritize wellness, sustainability, and creativity—reminding us that success in modern life isn’t just about how much we achieve, but about how we live our lives in alignment with our values.
One of the key themes we explore in this edition is the rise of sustainable living. As we confront the environmental challenges of our time, many women are leading the charge in building a more sustainable fu-
ture. From eco-friendly fashion brands to zero-waste homes, women are at the forefront of rethinking the way we consume, produce, and engage with the world around us. Sustainability is no longer just a trend; it is becoming an integral part of modern living. This shift is not only essential for the health of our planet but also for our personal well-being. Living sustainably encourages mindfulness, a deeper connection to nature, and a more intentional way of life.
In this issue, we also explore the evolving definition of wellness. In today’s modern world, wellness goes far beyond physical health. It encompasses mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Women are increasingly taking control of their health in holistic ways—by focusing on mental health, embracing self-care rituals, and creating spaces that nourish the mind and body. This holistic approach to wellness is reshaping how we think about health, with women leading the way in breaking down stigmas around mental health and advocating for self-care as a necessity, not a luxury.
Technology plays a pivotal role in modern living, and it has revolutionized every aspect of our lives. From how we work and communicate to how we shop and entertain ourselves, technology is shaping the future in profound ways. Women are not just passive consumers of these advancements; they are key innovators and leaders in tech-driven industries. In this issue, we celebrate the women who are harnessing the power of technology to build businesses, connect communities, and transform industries. Their work reminds us that technology, when used thoughtfully, can be a powerful tool for personal growth and global impact.
Another important aspect of modern living is the need for community. In a world that is increasingly digital and sometimes isolating,
women are finding creative ways to foster connections. Whether through online platforms, local networks, or collaborative workspaces, the sense of community remains a vital part of modern life. Women are redefining how we build relationships and support one another, proving that no matter how fast the world changes, our need for connection remains constant.
As modern women, we are constantly juggling various roles—professionals, mothers, partners, entrepreneurs, leaders—and the pressure to excel in all areas can be overwhelming. In this edition, we share stories of women who have mastered the art of living a multifaceted life with grace and intention. They show us that while modern living can be demanding, it can also be deeply rewarding when we find balance, prioritize self-care, and stay true to our core values. At Womenpreneur Magazine, we believe that modern living is not about perfection, but about progress. It’s about learning to navigate the challenges of today’s world with resilience and creativity. Whether you’re building a business, raising a family, or pursuing personal growth, we hope this issue provides you with inspiration, practical tips, and a sense of connection to the larger community of women who are on this journey with you.
As you explore this edition, may you feel empowered to embrace modern living on your terms—choosing a path that aligns with your values, supports your well-being, and allows you to thrive in all aspects of life.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating the women who are reshaping the way we live in today’s world. We hope their stories inspire you to live boldly, sustainably, and authentically.
Warm regards,
Bhavna Batra Managing Editor Womenpreneur ME

As the global consciousness shifts towards sustainability, the concept of eco-friendly living spaces has emerged as a defining trend in modern architecture and interior design. These innovative spaces not only aim to reduce environmental impact but also promote healthier lifestyles for their inhabitants. This article explores the rising popularity of eco-friendly living spaces, highlighting key trends, innovations, and the broader implications for communities and the environment.
The drive toward eco-friendly living spaces is rooted in the increasing awareness of environmental issues, including climate change, resource depletion, and pollution. According to the World Green Building Council, buildings are responsible for around 39% of global carbon emissions, with residential spaces contributing a significant portion. As such, creating sustainable living environments is crucial for mitigating climate change and fostering a healthier planet.
Eco-friendly living spaces prioritize energy efficiency, sustainable materials, and reduced carbon footprints. They offer a holistic approach to living, integrating not only envi-
ronmental considerations but also social and economic dimensions. By focusing on the health and well-being of occupants, these spaces create a lifestyle that supports both personal and planetary health.
One of the most significant trends in eco-friendly architecture is the use of sustainable materials. Reclaimed wood, bamboo, recycled metals, and low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints are increasingly favored in construction and design. These materials not only minimize environmental impact but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of spaces.
For instance, many
eco-friendly homes now feature reclaimed wood floors, which provide char-
acter and warmth while reducing the demand for new timber. Additionally, innovations in biodegradable materials, such as mycelium-based products, are gaining traction as alternatives to traditional construction materials .
Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of eco-friendly living spaces. Builders are increasingly incorporating advanced insulation, energy-efficient windows, and smart home technologies that optimize energy use. Moreover, renewable energy sources such as solar panels are becoming commonplace, allowing homeowners to generate their own electricity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Recent advancements in solar technology have made solar panels more efficient and aesthetically pleasing, with options like solar shingles blend-
ing seamlessly into roofing materials. This trend not only enhances energy independence but also reduces long-term utility costs for homeowners .
The integration of nature into urban living spaces is another prominent trend. Green roofs and vertical gardens are innovative solutions for maximizing green space in densely populated areas. These installations not only improve air quality and reduce heat absorption but also provide natural insulation for buildings.
Green roofs can absorb rainwater, thereby reducing stormwater runoff and promoting biodiversity by creating habitats for various plant and animal species. Vertical gardens, on the other hand, offer a unique way to bring greenery into smaller living spaces, improving aesthetics while also enhancing indoor air quality .
The rise of smart home technologies complements the movement towards eco-friendly living spaces. Smart devices enable homeowners to monitor and manage their energy consumption more effectively. For example, smart thermostats can learn user preferences and adjust heating and cooling schedules accordingly, leading to significant energy savings.
Moreover, smart lighting systems can be programmed to turn off automatically when rooms are unoccupied, further conserving energy. These
technologies empower homeowners to make informed decisions about their energy use, contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle .
In response to growing water scarcity issues, eco-friendly living spaces are increasingly incorporating water conservation techniques. Rainwater harvesting systems, greywater recycling, and lowflow fixtures help reduce water consumption and minimize waste.
Modern eco-friendly homes are designed with drought-resistant landscaping, which not only conserves water but also enhances the beauty of outdoor spaces. These practices promote sustainable water use, ensuring that resources are available for future generations .
The shift towards eco-friendly living spaces
has far-reaching implications beyond individual homes. As communities embrace sustainability, there is a growing demand for eco-friendly developments and urban planning initiatives that prioritize green spaces, efficient public transportation, and walkable neighborhoods.
Governments and organizations are increasingly recognizing the importance of sustainable living. Incentives for green building practices, such as tax credits and grants for energy-efficient upgrades, encourage homeowners to invest in eco-friendly features .
Moreover, as eco-friendly living spaces gain popularity, they can stimulate local economies through the creation of green jobs in construction, maintenance, and design. These jobs not only contribute
to economic growth but also promote social equity by providing opportunities in underserved communities .
The rise of eco-friendly living spaces marks a significant step toward a more sustainable future. By prioritizing environmentally responsible practices, innovative materials, and smart technologies, these spaces empower individuals to contribute positively to the planet while enhancing their quality of life. As awareness of the importance of sustainability continues to grow, the movement toward eco-friendly living will undoubtedly shape the landscapes of our communities for generations to come.

As urban populations continue to swell, the need for innovative housing solutions has never been more critical. The future of urban living is characterized by a fusion of technology, sustainability, and community engagement, aiming to create homes that are not only functional but also adaptable to the changing needs of their inhabitants. This article explores the key trends and technologies shaping modern urban living spaces, highlighting their implications for residents and the broader community.
The rise of smart home technology is transforming the way we interact with our living spaces. From voice-activated assistants like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home to smart thermostats and security systems, these devices offer
homeowners unprecedented control over their environment. The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) enables seamless communication between devices, allowing for a level of automation that enhances convenience and energy efficiency.
For instance, smart thermostats can learn user habits and adjust heating and cooling accordingly, leading to significant energy savings. In urban areas, where energy costs can be high, such technologies are increasingly appealing. According to a report from the Consumer Technology Association, the smart home market is expected to reach $174 billion by 2025, indicating a strong consumer demand for these innovations.
Sustainability is at the forefront of mod-
ern urban design. With climate change presenting an urgent challenge, architects and urban planners are prioritizing eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient designs, and sustainable practices. Green building certifications, such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), are becoming standard for new developments.
Incorporating renewable energy sources, such as solar panels and wind turbines, is also gaining traction. A study published by the International Energy Agency shows that renewable energy sources could account for 80% of the world’s energy needs by 2050 if current trends continue. As more cities commit to carbon neutrality, the push for sustainable living will likely accelerate, influencing everything from the materials used in construction to the technologies that power urban homes.
Another significant trend reshaping urban living is the rise of co-living spaces. As housing affordability becomes a pressing issue in many metropolitan areas, co-living offers a viable solution. These shared living environments cater to individuals seeking community and connection, particularly among younger generations and remote workers.
Co-living spaces provide residents with private bedrooms while offering communal areas for socializing, working, and collaborating. This model not only reduces living costs but also fosters a sense of community in an increasingly isolating urban environment. According to a report from Colliers International, the co-living sector is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, indicating a shift in how people choose to live in cities.
The integration of nature into urban living is gaining momentum through biophilic design principles. This approach emphasizes the connection between humans and nature, promoting well-being and improving air quality. Features such as green roofs, indoor gardens, and natural lighting are becoming standard in modern architecture.
Research has shown that biophilic design can enhance mental health, reduce stress, and increase productivity.
A study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that exposure to natural elements can significantly improve mood and cognitive function. As urban areas continue to densify, incorporating nature into living spaces will become increasingly essential for promoting a healthy urban lifestyle.
As urban populations evolve, so do their housing needs. Modular and flexible housing solutions are emerging as practical responses to changing demographics and lifestyles. These adaptable living spaces can be easily reconfigured to meet the needs of different inhabitants, whether single professionals, families, or retirees. Modular housing is constructed off-site and assembled quickly, reducing construction waste and time. This approach not only makes housing more affordable but also minimizes the environmental impact of traditional building methods. Furthermore, flexible designs allow for easy expansion or reconfiguration, making it possible for urban homes to adapt to the dynamic needs of their residents.
Modern urban living is not just about individual homes; it’s also about fostering community engagement and interaction. Urban planners are increasingly prioritizing public spaces that encourage social interaction, such as parks, plazas, and community gardens. These spaces not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of neighborhoods but also provide opportunities for residents to connect and collaborate.
Community-driven initiatives, such as local farmers’ markets and urban art projects, are gaining popularity as a way to build social ties. According to the Project for Public Spaces, vibrant public spaces are essential for creating strong communities, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in the future of urban living.
The future of urban living is being shaped by a convergence of technology, sustainability, and community engagement. As cities grapple with the challenges of population growth and climate change, the trends outlined in this article will play a pivotal role in defining the modern home. From smart technologies and sustainable practices to co-living arrangements and biophilic design, the innovations influencing urban living are not just about creating functional spaces; they are about fostering a sense of community and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
As we look ahead, it is clear that the evolution of urban living will continue to be influenced by these trends and technologies, paving the way for a more sustainable, connected, and vibrant future.

Under Sumaya’s leadership, the firm has achieved remarkable milestones, including winning the prestigious Principal of the Year Award at the Middle East Architecture Awards in 2019.
The Journey of Rawan Alsahsah and RIS Group
Rawan Alsahsah, the founder and CEO of RIS Group, is a name that resonates across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East in the world of architecture, design, and interior decor. As one of the first Saudi women to establish and lead an interior design company, she has not only built a highly successful business but has also blazed a trail for other women in a traditionally male-dominated field.
In the dynamic world of interior design, where creativity meets entrepreneurship, Karen Dougall and Nikki Martin have crafted their own unique space with Palm Living Interiors. Founded in 2020 in Dubai, this brand has quickly become synonymous with high-quality, European minimalistic style furniture, all while embodying the vision and passion of its co-founders. With a shared love for design and a relentless drive to create, Karen and Nikki have not only built a successful business but have also inspired countless others with their journey.
For Karen, the seeds of creativity were planted early. “From a young age, I’ve always been super creative and artistic, enjoying things like drawing and painting,” she recalls. Initially, her focus was on fashion, specifically fashion illustrations and collages, which she studied at university and pursued in the fashion industry for several years before transitioning into interior design. During her childhood, Karen also developed a fascination with crystals and natural stones. “Marble is one of our specialty materials now, and it makes sense, given my early interests,” she said. Despite her passion, Karen had always dreamed of owning her own business but struggled to find the right niche. “I always knew it’d be something creative,” she added.
Nikki’s journey was different but equally influential in shaping Palm Living Interiors. “Growing up, my Mum and Dad loved their sports and always encouraged me and my brothers to participate in as many local clubs and teams as possible,” she shares. The team environment and the leadership skills she developed from a young age became the foundation for her aspirations. “The older I got, the more independent I became, wanting to not just be my own boss, but manage people and build a team of my own was always a dream of mine.” The idea of entrepreneurship, while exciting, was initially daunting for Karen. “Becoming an entrepreneur was a huge step. Most people see the success and believe it is easy, but they don’t see the late nights and weekends Nikki and I have worked,” she said. The spark to start Palm Living Interiors came after moving to Dubai, where she felt the need to do and be more than her previous roles allowed. “It has been the best decision I’ve ever made,” Karen admits. Nikki, on the other hand, grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and drew massive inspiration from her grandfather, who ran a successful business in Scotland. “Seeing who he was to the local community and how hard he worked always inspired me to do more. The feeling you get going to work every day, working on your dreams rather than somebody else’s, inspires me each and every day.”
The journey to building Palm Living Interiors was far from smooth. “When we started Palm Living, we sourced suppliers, built our socials, and even handled our own deliveries to clients,” Nikki recalls. The challenges of navigating a predominantly male-owned industry added another layer of difficulty. “You can imagine the funny looks we got walking into factories as two blonde ladies,” she adds. Despite these
hurdles, the duo persevered, driven by their shared vision. “As the hard work paid off, we managed to grow the business. We take so much satisfaction in seeing our products all over Dubai, and through the amazing team we have built at Palm Living, it allows us to focus on the bigger picture,” Karen added.
The decision to start Palm Living Interiors was born out of frustration and a desire to fill a gap in the market. “In 2020, when we first started the conversation around Palm Living, sat on my balcony, our main frustra-
tion that night was finding furniture that suited our style,” Karen mentioned. The pandemic had forced people to spend more time indoors, leading to a greater focus on home environments. “Many people began focusing on their homes, seeking to create their own personal sanctuaries,” she added. While online inspiration was abundant, finding a place to turn that vision into reality was limited. “That’s exactly what we aimed to provide for all our clients: a space where they could transform their house into a home.”
The values that guide Karen and Nikki in their business decisions are deeply rooted in collaboration and client satisfaction. “As partners, we prioritize collaboration in all major decisions while also respecting each other’s strengths. We trust each other’s judgment and work together to correct mistakes when they happen. As a company, we place the client at the heart of everything we do, understanding that it’s their home and their vision, so our business revolves around enhancing their experience in every interaction with us,” Nikki said.
Creating a positive and inclusive culture within Palm Living Interiors is another priority for the co-founders. “When it comes to culture within our company, we promote an inclusive environment for all of our team,” Nikki stated. She believes in allowing everyone to contribute and feel like they are adding value to the company. “I never enjoyed the restrictive nature of management, so allowing everyone to contribute, and most importantly feel like they are adding value to the company is something I really like to promote,” she added. Karen agrees, adding that independence is key. “Allowing each individual employee to have their own creative freedom within the workplace is important to us. One of the main setbacks in my previous jobs was that feeling of being restricted and not being allowed to let my full potential flourish.”
As female entrepreneurs, Karen and Nikki have faced their fair share of challenges, particularly in balancing work and family life. “For us, spending time away from our families, especially in the early stages, was a challenge,” Nikki shares. Both co-founders are mothers, and finding the right work-life balance is crucial. “It’s really important to get that right work/life balance. But it shouldn’t stop any woman from venturing out and working towards their dreams,” she asserts. Karen echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing family time. She said, “As entrepreneurs, we continually face challenges. The key is to embrace these challenges as opportunities to learn from our mistakes. No one gets it right 100% of the time, so we strive to do our best and aim to improve every day.”
Staying focused and motivated, even during difficult times, is essential to the success of Palm Living Interiors. “I like to remember the reason we started. I wanted to have a better life for my family, more time with them, and a better lifestyle. Remembering these things helps on both the best and worst days to know what you are working towards,” Karen said. Nikki agrees, noting that the demands of the job can sometimes feel overwhelming.
“As a leader, you carry the responsibility for your clients and your team, trusting that your decisions are in everyone’s best interest. Staying grounded is crucial, both during the highs and the lows, to stay focused and on track,” she said.
Managing work-life balance is another area where Karen and Nikki have gained valuable insights. “Growing a business is not easy,” Nikki admits. “We live in a world of social media where people advertise wonderful lifestyles and meetings in beach clubs, but in reality, especially in the early stages, hard work and long hours are a fact of life.” However, as the business has grown, so has their ability to set their own hours and spend more time with their loved ones. “Building the right team around you allows you the flexibility to set your own hours and spend more time with the people you love,” she added. Karen adding to it said, “We are lucky to have built the team we now have. It allows us to spend more time with our families, which we truly value.”
When it comes to defining success, Karen and Nikki’s perspectives are refreshingly personal. “Success will always be subjective. For me, I am passionate about interiors. I enjoy going into our clients’ homes and helping them create their vision. I still get to spend a lot of time talking with clients and seeing the results we help them create. That is when I am at my happiest, and I guess that’s how I define success,” Karen said. Nikki shares a similar view, “Palm Living all started with our goal to help people create their dream home, and that is how we measure our success.” As for the future, both co-founders are excited about what’s to come. “We want to keep growing and building our business further and have some exciting plans in the pipeline that we are excited to share with our clients over the coming months,” Nikki stated.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly women, Karen and Nikki have a clear message. “I think all women can accomplish anything they set their minds to. I dreamt of being a business owner, but I only became one by starting. I believe in action. If you believe in your idea, believe in yourself, and you can do amazing things,” Nikki said.
Karen wholeheartedly agrees and said, “The most difficult thing to do is to take that leap of faith. I had Nikki pushing me all the way at the beginning of our journey, and without her, we wouldn’t be here today.”
Karen and Nikki’s story showcases the power of creativity, collaboration, and determination. As they continue to grow their business and inspire others both of them remain committed to their vision of creating beautiful, high-quality furniture that turns houses into homes.
Success isn’t just about building a business; it’s about helping others create their dream spaces and seeing the joy it brings to their lives. “
Fatima Al Zaabi and Noora Al Awar, co-founders of Dubai-based Studio D04, have come to redefine the contemporary architectural and design landscape in the UAE through their deep-rooted commitment to cultural resonance, advanced digital fabrication, and refined material craftsmanship. Both Emirati architects bring complementary visions that merge tradition with modernity. United by their shared academic journey at the American University of Sharjah, Fatima and Noora found inspiration in their mutual appreciation for the unique cultural essence of the Gulf region. Their studio, founded in 2014, has since grown into a recognized name, noted for its refined architecture, interior, and product design that is at once functional, poetic, and distinctly Emirati in spirit.
Fatima Al Zaabi, the studio’s Managing Director, brings an approach that reflects her passion for integrating the old with the new, bridging traditional craftsmanship with the capabilities of advanced digital fabrication. Her expertise shines through in her attention to the “bigger picture,” where each project aligns with an overarching vision while preserving memorable and functional simplicity. With a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the American University of Sharjah, Fatima’s career began with a strong academic foundation that later propelled her into the specialization of digital technologies. She pursued a Master of Science in Architecture Design and Research with a concentration in Digital Technologies from the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, where she sharpened her technical skills and honed her distinct approach to design. Her academic and professional evolution has enabled her to orchestrate a comprehensive vision for Studio D04, one that deftly balances material integrity, form, and cultural relevance.
As Creative Director, Noora Al Awar is the creative force behind Studio D04’s client relations, spearheading collaborations that result in tailor-made experiences. Her work reflects an appreciation for the intrinsic values of Emirati culture, combining an instinct for materials with a keen eye for technical details and intuitive designs. Having completed her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the American University of Sharjah, Noora developed her design philosophy around the belief that tradition and modern design can coexist in innovative ways. Through her guidance, the studio engages clients not only in the design process but also in a cultural dialogue that shapes the resulting space or product. Each project under her direction reflects a reinterpretation of local traditions, blending tactile, timeless materials with structures that honor cultural heritage while appealing to modern sensibilities.
Studio D04 emerged from Fatima and Noora’s shared desire to explore a contemporary regional architecture that does justice to their homeland’s cultural depth. Their practice reflects their commitment to creating designs that resonate with the local environment and traditions while responding to the practical and aesthetic needs of today. With an impressive portfolio spanning private residences to public installations, the studio is celebrated for its thoughtful approach to space, light, and materiality. Their projects consistently explore the intersection of context, place, and environment, with particular attention given to the unique crafts and material practices of the UAE.
The studio’s emphasis on collaboration lies at the heart of their philosophy, seeing each project as an exchange between the architects, the clients, and the space itself. This client-centric, collaborative approach results in designs that are not only distinctive but
tailored to the users, infusing each project with a sense of place and identity that remains both timeless and functional. Their work, while contemporary in execution, pays homage to traditional Emirati culture, drawing inspiration from local techniques and materials that are skillfully reinterpreted through a modern lens. This approach has earned Studio D04 a reputation as a design practice that blends regional aesthetics with forward-thinking techniques, offering a fresh take on architectural identity in the Middle East. Beyond architecture and interiors, Studio D04 also engages in product and installation design, which further embodies their philosophy of tactile, contextually aware design. Their work stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of technical rigor and creative freedom, producing works that are functionally robust and emotionally resonant. From spatial configurations that honor the path of natural light to material choices that celebrate local crafts, every element of Studio D04’s projects is intentional, embodying a deep respect for the craft and an understanding of how people experience spaces.
Under Fatima’s and Noora’s leadership, Studio D04 has carved a unique niche in the UAE’s burgeoning design landscape. Their shared background and vision continue to guide the firm’s growth as a multi-disciplinary practice that sets new standards for architecture and design in the region. Their journey reflects a deep-rooted love for the culture and heritage of their country, coupled with a visionary approach to design that honors tradition while embracing innovation. Studio D04 remains a trailblazer in crafting spaces that are uniquely responsive to the people, places, and histories they serve, leaving a lasting impact on the architectural identity of the UAE and beyond.
Sumaya Dabbagh, the founder and force behind Dabbagh Architects, has redefined Middle Eastern architecture with her culturally resonant and award-winning designs. Since its inception in 2008, Dabbagh Architects has consistently pushed boundaries, garnering regional acclaim and contributing to the cultural landscape of the Gulf. Under Sumaya’s leadership, the firm has achieved remarkable milestones, including winning the prestigious Principal of the Year Award at the Middle East Architecture Awards in 2019 and Cityscape’s Community, Culture and Tourism Project for the Al Ain Museum that same year. These achievements not only reflect the firm’s excellence but also highlight Dabbagh’s personal journey of blending modern design with Middle Eastern heritage.
Sumaya Dabbagh was born in Saudi Arabia and educated in the United Kingdom, where she completed her architectural training at Bath University. There, she studied under luminaries such as Peter Smithson and Sir Ted Happold, whose teachings in design principles and environmental sensitivity profoundly shaped her approach. After launching her career in London and Paris, she made the pivotal decision to return to the Middle East in 1993. For Sumaya, this move was about more than work; it was a journey to reconnect with her cultural identity and develop a unique architectural language rooted in the region’s context and heritage.
Sumaya’s return to the Gulf region brought her a sense of purpose and discovery, sparking a desire to create designs that embodied both her Western training and the cultural richness of the Middle East. Her early work in the Gulf included prominent projects such as the award-winning Children’s City Project, designed in collaboration with Schuster Pechtold and Partners. This project was a testament to her ability to weave social and cultural relevance into her designs, making architecture a means of community connec-
tion rather than merely functional spaces.
By 2002, Sumaya had gathered a wealth of experience and began to venture independently, founding Dabbagh Architects. The studio has since embraced a range of ambitious projects, including commercial offices, residential developments, retail spaces, and educational institutions, as well as culturally significant landmarks. Through these works, Dabbagh Architects has become a celebrated name, known for its commitment to a design ethos that harmonizes with its environment while elevating the user experience.
“Architecture, for me, is a journey of reconnection—with culture, heritage, and purpose. Through Dabbagh Architects, I strive to create spaces that are not only functional but resonate deeply with the Gulf’s unique identity, bridging tradition with modernity. Architecture should not only elevate spaces but also foster community, inspire dialogue, and honor the spirit of the place.
Sumaya’s sensitivity to both Western and Middle Eastern cultures gives her an exceptional ability to bridge aesthetic and functional gaps in her work. Each project undertaken by Dabbagh Architects embodies Sumaya’s commitment to creating meaningful, contextually aware spaces. Her design for the Al Ain Museum, for instance, reflects the region’s heritage while serving as a modern cultural hub. This project, among others, exemplifies her focus on sustainable design and cultural representation, making her work profoundly significant in the Gulf’s evolving architectural landscape.
Beyond her contributions to architecture, Sumaya is a passionate advocate for gender equality and design excellence in the region. In 2009, she helped establish the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Gulf chapter, a platform dedicated to enhancing awareness and appreciation for high-quality design across the Gulf. Today, as the elected Chair of the RIBA Gulf Chapter, Sumaya leads initiatives that support and inspire architects in the region. Her efforts have helped create a more inclusive and culturally conscious architectural community, where design serves as both an art form and a bridge across different perspectives.
Sumaya Dabbagh’s work is more than architecture—it is a statement on the power of thoughtful, culturally enriched design. By bridging the traditional and the contemporary, Dabbagh Architects brings the Middle East’s rich heritage into dialogue with global standards, creating spaces that are timeless yet progressive. Sumaya’s journey from Saudi Arabia to Europe and back has not only shaped her as an architect but has also enabled her to redefine what architecture can achieve in the modern Middle Eastern context. Today, she continues to pave the way for future architects in the region, advocating for cultural relevance, sustainable practices, and a more equitable design community.

oration and client-centered design, has set a new benchmark for luxury interiors in the region. Their designs merge clean, modern lines with sophisticated textures and carefully chosen materials, transforming spaces into elegant yet welcoming environments.
One of the studio’s most celebrated projects, the award-winning AAS Villa in Doha, showcases the principles and high standards that define Casa Lujo Interiors. For this ambitious 1,200-square-meter renovation, the team was tasked with revitalizing an existing villa while preserving its luxurious calacatta marble flooring and paneled walls. This presented a unique challenge that the Casa Lujo team embraced with enthusiasm. Shaikha and Cathrine understood the delicate balance required to introduce fresh elements without overwhelming the villa’s existing fea-
tures. Their choice of furniture—subdued tones with complementary textures and accent materials—brought depth and coherence to the design, creating a harmonious blend of old and new.
Beyond their day-to-day project work, Shaikha and Cathrine remain committed to professional growth, leading their team with a focus on innovation, knowledge, and design excellence. By continuously enhancing their skill sets and exploring new design trends, they ensure that Casa Lujo Interiors remains at the forefront of interior design in the Middle East. The studio’s dynamic approach allows them to adapt to a broad spectrum of projects, from private residences to high-end hospitality spaces, each executed with the same level of dedication to detail and aesthetic finesse.
At Casa Lujo Interiors, we believe that luxury lies in the details and that each space should tell a story, enrich lives, and inspire. Our design philosophy centers on blending elegance with innovation, creating interiors that are not only beautiful but resonate deeply with the people who inhabit them.
Casa Lujo Interiors stands out in the regional design landscape because of its founders’ passion for elevating the standards of modern interior design. Shaikha and Cathrine have not only built a studio known for delivering remarkable projects, but they’ve also fostered an ethos of elegance and sophistication that defines every space they touch. Their journey from accomplished designers to founders of one of the region’s most exciting new studios reflects their dedication to excellence in design and their ambition to create spaces that tell stories, evoke emotions, and enhance the lives of those who experience them.
As Casa Lujo Interiors continues to grow and expand its reach, the founders’ vision of redefining luxury and contemporary living in the Middle East remains as strong as ever. RIS Group, under Alsahsah’s visionary leadership, has grown to become one of the premier furniture and design solution companies in the region, redefining industry standards and establishing itself as a key player in the Saudi market and beyond.
Alsahsah’s journey in design and furniture began with a profound interest in how spaces can influence lifestyle, creativity, and quality of life. With a commitment to elegance and functionality, she founded RIS Group as a specialist in home interiors and contemporary luxury furniture, catering to the discerning tastes of clients across the GCC. She recognized early on that there was a gap in the market for high-quality, stylish home furnishings that also reflected the region’s unique cultural aesthetic. Her goal was to bring international luxury and sophistication to Saudi Arabia while celebrating local traditions and heritage.

The digital transformation in healthcare has been nothing short of revolutionary, fundamentally changing how patients, providers, and payers interact. As technology continues to advance, digital health is poised to redefine traditional models of care delivery, enhancing accessibility, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
Digital health encompasses a wide range of technologies designed to improve healthcare delivery. This includes telemedicine, wearable devices, mobile health applications, electronic health records (EHRs), and artificial intelligence (AI). Each of these technologies contributes to a more patient-centered ap-
proach, allowing individuals to take charge of their health.
Telemedicine has emerged as one of the most significant developments in digital health. It enables patients to consult healthcare providers remotely, reducing the need for in-person visits. This has been particularly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, where social distancing measures made traditional healthcare access challenging. According to a report from the American Medical Association, telemedicine visits surged by over 154% in the last week of March 2020 compared to the same period in 2019 .
The convenience of telemedicine is also appealing. Patients can receive care from
the comfort of their homes, which is particularly beneficial for those with mobility issues or those living in rural areas. Additionally, telemedicine has expanded access to specialists who may not be available locally.
Wearable Technology: Health at Your Fingertips
Wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, has made personal health monitoring more accessible than ever. Devices like the Apple Watch and Fitbit not only track physical activity but also monitor vital signs, including heart rate and blood oxygen levels. This data can be shared with healthcare providers, enabling more informed decision-making and personalized care plans.
According to a report by Grand View Research, the global wearable medical device market is expected to reach $27.5 billion by 2025, indicating a growing trend towards self-monitoring and preventive care . These devices empower patients to take proactive steps toward their health, fostering a culture of wellness.
Mobile Health Applications: Empowering Patients
Mobile health applications, or mHealth apps, have gained immense
popularity for their ability to provide health information, reminders, and tracking tools directly to users’ smartphones. From medication adherence apps to mental health resources, these tools are revolutionizing patient engagement.
For instance, applications like MyFitnessPal help users track their nutrition and physical activity, while others like Headspace offer mental health support through meditation and mindfulness practices. A survey conducted by Pew Research Center found that 64% of smartphone owners have used their devices to look up health information . This accessibility to information enables patients to make informed choices about their care.
Artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare by streamlining processes, analyzing data, and supporting clinical decision-making. AI algorithms can identify patterns in patient data that may not be immediately apparent to healthcare providers. For example, AI is being used in radiology to analyze medical imaging, improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing the workload on radiologists.
Moreover, AI chatbots are becoming increasingly popular in patient interactions, providing instant responses to common inquiries and triaging patients based on their symptoms. A study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research found that AI chatbots can accurately assess patient symptoms and direct them to appropriate care pathways .
While the rise of digital health presents numerous advantages, it also poses
challenges. Data privacy and security remain top concerns, as sensitive health information is increasingly stored and transmitted online. Ensuring compliance with regulations such as HIPAA in the United States is crucial for protecting patient information.
Moreover, the digital divide highlights disparities in access to technology. Vulnerable populations may lack the resources or skills to utilize digital health tools effectively. Addressing these inequalities is essential to ensure that the benefits of digital health are accessible to all.
As we look ahead, the integration of digital health into traditional healthcare systems is expected to continue growing. The ongoing advancements in technology, along with the increasing emphasis on personalized care, will drive this trend.
Healthcare providers will need to adapt their practices to incorporate these tools while maintaining a focus on patient-centered care. Collaboration between tech companies, healthcare pro-
fessionals, and policymakers will be critical in shaping the future of digital health.
In conclusion, digital health is revolutionizing healthcare by enhancing accessibility, empowering patients, and streamlining processes. As technology continues to evolve, its integration into everyday healthcare will undoubtedly lead to improved outcomes and a healthier society overall.

In recent years, financial literacy has emerged as a crucial aspect of personal development, particularly for women. Historically, women have faced unique challenges in the financial realm, including pay gaps, underrepresentation in financial decision-making roles, and societal pressures that discourage investment. However, as awareness of these issues grows, so does the importance of financial literacy. This article explores the significance of financial education for women and how it empowers them to make informed investment decisions.
Financial literacy refers to the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal finan-
cial management, budgeting, investing, and understanding financial products and services. According to the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), financial literacy is essential for individuals to make informed decisions about their finances, leading to better outcomes in terms of savings, investments, and overall financial health.
For women, gaining financial literacy can be particularly empowering. A study conducted by the Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC) found that women often score lower than men on financial literacy tests. This gap can limit their ability to make informed investment decisions and manage their finances effectively. Thus, closing this gap is critical for women to take control of their financial futures.
Women still face significant barriers in building wealth. According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report, it will take an estimated 135 years to close the gender wealth gap if current trends continue. Financial literacy is a powerful tool that can help women overcome these barriers. By understanding how to invest, budget, and save effectively, women can take proactive steps to build their wealth.
Investment education can lead to more women participating in the stock market and other investment opportunities. According to a report by Fidelity Investments, the percentage of wom-
en investing in the stock market rose from 51% in 2017 to 61% in 2020. This increase indicates that as women become more financially literate, they are more likely to engage in wealth-building activities.
Financial literacy equips women with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their finances. With this understanding, they can evaluate various investment options, compare products, and assess risks effectively. Empowered with this knowledge, women can advocate for themselves in financial conversations, whether at home or with financial professionals.
In addition, research from the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) suggests that women who are financially literate are more confident in making financial decisions. This confidence is crucial, particularly in a world where financial choices can significantly impact long-term stability and security.
Financial literacy fosters independence by encouraging women to take charge of their financial futures. Many women still rely on partners or family members for financial decisions, which can limit their understanding and control over their own financial situations. By developing financial literacy, women can create and manage their financial plans, making decisions that align with their goals and aspirations.
In fact, a survey by UBS found that women are more likely than men to prioritize financial independence. Among the women surveyed, 68% stated that being financially independent was important to them, compared to 54% of men. This desire for independence can be further realized through financial education and investment strategies.
Women often face unique financial challenges, including longer life expectancies and caregiving responsibilities that can impact their earning potential. According to the U.S. Department of
Labor, women live about five years longer than men, which means they need to save more for retirement. Financial literacy can help women prepare for these challenges by enabling them to create sustainable financial plans that account for their long-term needs.
Furthermore, as women navigate various life stages—whether it’s starting a family, changing careers, or approaching retirement—financial education can help them adapt their investment strategies accordingly. This adaptability is essential in a rapidly changing economic landscape.
There are numerous resources available for women looking to improve their financial literacy. Online platforms such as Khan Academy, Investopedia, and The Financial Diet offer courses, articles, and tools tailored to various financial topics. Additionally, organizations like SHE Fund and Women in Investing provide workshops and networking op-

portunities for women seeking to enhance their financial knowledge.
Joining community groups or online forums focused on financial education can provide valuable support and networking opportunities. Engaging with other women who are on similar journeys can foster a sense of community and encouragement. Participating in discussions, sharing experiences, and learning from others can be instrumental in building financial confidence.
Consulting with financial advisors who specialize in working with women can be beneficial. These professionals can provide tailored advice that takes into account unique financial goals, risk tolerance, and life circumstances. They can also help women navigate investment options and create personalized financial plans.
The best way to become comfortable with investing is to start. Women can begin by setting aside a small amount of money for investments. Utilizing user-friendly platforms like Robinhood, Acorns, or Betterment can make the process easier for beginners. By starting small, women can gain experience and confidence in their investment abilities.
Financial literacy is not just about numbers; it’s about empowerment, independence, and the ability to make informed decisions that can significantly impact one’s life. As women continue to gain knowledge in personal finance and investing, they can break down barriers and bridge the wealth gap. By prioritizing financial education and taking proactive steps to invest, women can build a secure financial future for themselves and their families.
The journey towards financial literacy is ongoing, but with the right resources and support, women can thrive in the world of investment and financial planning, paving the way for future generations to follow suit.

Traveling solo can be an exhilarating experience for women, offering not only a chance to explore new destinations but also an opportunity for self-discovery and empowerment. As women increasingly venture out alone, they challenge societal norms and redefine the narrative around female travelers. This article explores the profound impact of solo travel on women, shares inspiring stories, and provides practical tips for those looking to embark on their own adventures.
For many women, solo travel is a rite of passage. It allows them to break free from routine, discover new cultures, and connect with themselves in ways that everyday life may not permit. According to a survey by the Hostelworld group, 72% of women feel safer traveling solo than they did five years ago. This growing confidence reflects a cultural shift, where women are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones.
Liz Carlson, known for her blog “The Young Adventuress,” began her solo travel journey in New Zealand. After moving there for a job, she found herself alone in a foreign country. Instead of retreating into her comfort zone, she embraced the experience. Carlson states, “Traveling solo taught me resilience. I learned to navigate challenges, and with each adventure, my confidence grew.” Her journey led her to numerous countries, inspiring countless women to take the plunge into solo travel.
Jessica Nabongo, the first documented Black woman to visit every country in the world, emphasizes the importance of representation in travel. Her journey began as a solo traveler, and she often reflects on how it shaped her identity. Nabongo advocates for women to embrace solo travel as a means of empowerment: “When you travel alone, you discover your strengths. You learn to trust your instincts and make decisions without outside influence.” Her story inspires many women to embark on their own global adventures.
While the idea of traveling solo can be daunting, it’s essential to recognize and confront those fears. Here are some common concerns and tips for overcoming them:
• Safety Concerns: Many women worry about their safety when traveling alone. Researching destinations beforehand, choosing reputable accommodations, and staying aware of surroundings can mitigate these fears. Organizations like Women Who Travel provide valuable resources and tips for female travelers.
• Loneliness: The fear of feeling lonely while traveling alone can deter many women. However, solo travel often leads to unexpected connections. Engaging with locals, joining group tours, or staying in hostels can foster friendships and enrich the experience.
• Decision Fatigue: Making travel decisions alone can feel overwhelming. To combat this, women should create itineraries that include must-see attractions but allow flexibility for spontaneous adventures. Balancing structure with spontaneity can lead to unforgettable moments.
Research and Plan Ahead: Before embarking on a solo trip, research your destination thoroughly. Understand the local culture, customs, and safety considerations. Websites like Travelocity and TripAdvisor offer traveler reviews and insights that can help in planning.
• Embrace the Unknown: Solo travel is an opportunity to step outside your comfort zone. Embrace the spontaneity of the journey. Some of the best experiences come from unplanned adventures.
• Connect with Other Travelers: Utilize social media platforms, travel forums, and apps like Meetup or Couchsurfing to connect with fellow travelers. These platforms can facilitate meetups and create a sense of community on the road.
• Document Your Journey: Keeping a travel journal or blogging about your experiences can be a rewarding way to reflect on your journey. Documenting challenges and triumphs can enhance personal growth and provide inspiration to others.
Trust Your Instincts: Always trust your intuition. If a situation feels uncomfortable, don’t hesitate to remove yourself. Confidence in your judgment is a vital part of solo travel.
Traveling alone provides a unique opportunity for women to build confidence and independence. As they navigate new environments and cultures, they learn valuable life skills. According to a study by the Global Business Travel Association, women who travel solo report increased self-esteem and personal growth.
By choosing to explore the world solo, women not only empower themselves but also pave the way for future generations. As more women share their travel stories, they inspire others to follow in their footsteps, fostering a culture of empowerment and exploration.
Solo travel is more than just visiting new places; it’s a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. By embracing the freedom that comes with traveling alone, women can cultivate confidence, resilience, and independence. As the stories of female solo travelers continue to inspire, it’s evident that exploring the world on one’s own terms can lead to profound personal transformation. Whether you’re considering your first solo trip or are a seasoned traveler, the road ahead is filled with opportunities for growth, adventure, and empowerment.
