FARM MACHINERY AUCTIONS
We have... vast experience in arranging farm machinery auctions. We recognise that the decision to sell whether as a result of retirement or a change in farming policy is not an easy or quick one: you may not even be 100% sure that this is what you really should be doing. Our auction team understands the emotion involved in holding a machinery auction, we will discuss with you all the options and, if you decide to proceed, we will support you from initial discussions to the sale day. Machinery auctions remain an effective way of disposing of farm machinery and equipment quickly and efficiently while providing complete transparency. Larger more valuable items create exposure and interest which then benefits the sale of smaller lots. Buyers will often attend an auction with the intention of buying a particular item, but then on the day discover other items also of value to them, adding to the bidding activity. At Fisher German we can offer you: Unrivalled farm machinery and equipment knowledge, The certainty of the total sale proceeds, raised at the fall of the hammer, with our cloud based real time accounting system, A substantial database of interested UK and international buyers, The expertise of industry acknowledged auctioneers, A bespoke marketing campaign to target the right audience, all delivered through our national presence. Our aim is to exceed our clients expectations in the preparation for, conduct of and follow up of their farm machinery auction. Fisher German’s broad service offering will ensure that our clients are fully supported following the sale day.
Jack Healy MRICS FAAV 01302 243933 jack.healy@fishergerman.co.uk Jack has been involved in farm machinery auctions since 2011. His first auction was held in Scotland following the change of farming policy on a large Scottish Estate, which led to the disposal of the machinery held within the in-hand farming operation. Since joining Fisher German in 2013, Jack has worked to promote Fisher German’s offering for farm machinery auctions and has brought state-of-the-art auction technology to Fisher German’s auctions. Jack’s upbringing on a working farm and passion for agriculture, has developed an unrivalled knowledge of machinery and equipment.
The Team: Our auction team have over 140 years of selling all manner of items at auction in the UK and international markets; including agricultural machinery, livestock, furniture, chattels, industrial equipment, land, property and even vintage cars! They are supported by experienced livestock and machinery auctioneers, all from farming backgrounds. In the run up to the sale day, members of our auction team will be on site to assess all the items to be included in the auction, before carefully selecting where each item will be located on the sale grounds and ensuring that items are carefully matched. We have experience in fully resourcing staff and equipment to prepare for the sale including cleaning machinery and undertaking any maintenance/repairs.
We will provide you with a marketing campaign schedule, which will detail the date and location of all adverts. The proliferation of social media platforms and surge in users in recent years has created an opportunity to use social media in a considered and targeted way to increase the exposure of your machinery auction. We will present your machinery auction across multiple channels and in doing so ensure that potential buyers are not being missed. Chris Hayward:
Rob Bower:
“The auction was conducted under difficult circumstances, with instructions to Fisher German to manage the sale given somewhat late in the day and at short notice; they allayed fears expressed by some of the vendors very well with reasoned statements and past experiences gained from running farm sales over many years and in many situations.
“My grandfather moved to the farm I have now retired from in 1938, so it was not an easy thing to do, but Fisher German made the whole auction process to sell the equipment and machinery a pleasure from start to finish. They were fantastic, and I cannot praise them enough. Their professionalism shone through at every stage, and the auction went incredibly smoothly. I was extremely happy with the results achieved on the day – it was much better than I expected thanks to Fisher German’s management of the auction.”
Ian Calverley and Jack Healy hit the ground running and really managed the whole process superbly. They produced a time-line document detailing all important deadlines and what had to be achieved to meet them and were helpful and always at the end of the phone to clarify things and give advice when needed. In the immediate run up to the auction, Ian and Jack were on site to give the team a hand in sorting lots out and directing sale order lots etc, which was greatly appreciated. They really pulled the process together and made the whole thing coherent from a buyer’s point of view and took much of the stress off farm staff and family members. Catalogues and the photographs needed for them were managed by Fisher German and were very professionally produced. The viewing and sale day itself went without a hitch and we, as vendors, could leave the Fisher German team to get on with the process without worry. Payment, loading and site clearance was managed very well in a speedy manner, as was the disbursement of proceeds of the auction. Sale reports produced following the auction made VAT returns and accounting after the event simple and straightforward. I would not hesitate to use Fisher German’s services again in the future, as the knowledge, experience and professionalism they exhibited in what was a difficult partnership dissolution really shone through and was to everyone’s satisfaction.”
Stone House Farming: “Having a farm sale is a stressful time for any farmer, but the very personable and competent Fisher German team made the whole process run smoothly, efficiently and ultimately successfully”.
Allibone Farming: “We would like to thank the Fisher German team and in particular, Paul, Sam and Molly, for handling our recent machinery sale. Throughout, they have acted with professionalism, expertise, understanding and compassion. We never had any doubt that if needed they were always prepared to ‘fight our corner’. The whole day exceeded our expectations. Please pass our thanks on to everyone involved. We really can’t thank you enough”.
Philip Bell: “Thank you very much for all of your hard work for our very successful sale of machinery and equipment. Jack, you have been very pleasant and professional throughout and we would certainly recommend you personally and Fisher German as a company to anyone. We would also consider you very highly in areas of diplomacy”.
Chris and Sharon Clark: “Fisher German dealt with our machinery farm sale in September 2017. This was a massive occasion for us having farmed for many years. We really needed someone who was experienced and thorough. It was important for us to have someone who could make the process so easy. Fisher German delivered all that and more. From the onset, Ian Calverley and especially Jack Healy, organised the sale form the start guiding us in the right direction. They have a team of wonderful helpers both in the yard while preparing for the sale and behind the scenes in the office helping organise and advertise the sale. As our sale was being prepared for at the same time we were moving home to another country, we knew that we could rely on the whole team to get the job done. We left Jack and the rest of his team in charge to set up for the sale, while we moved to France. We returned for the sale but we weren’t needed as Fisher German had everything under control. On the day of the sale we had the legendary auctioneer, Ian Calverley, who made short work of our 295 lots. The office team were amazing and did Fisher German proud. All in all, they made the whole process easy and run to perfection. We cannot thank them enough for their support”.

Real time financial data Our electronic auction system is the most comprehensive cloud based auction management software available, delivering the ultimate efficiency for all of our machinery auctions. The provision of an electronic card machine and internet banking, ensure that cleared funds are collected as quickly as possible.
Online bidding & online timed auctions In conjunction with our electronic auction system we can provide the additional service of online bidding, to generate further interest and maximise the purchase options available for buyers, with the sole intention of achieving the best sale prices for our clients. Buyers who are unable to attend the onsite auction can follow the auction via a live video-stream and subsequently bid for any items they wish to purchase, creating additional competition for the buyers onsite. For those who may decide to proceed with an online auction as opposed to a traditional on-farm machinery auction, we have the technology and experience to successfully deliver this option.
Machinery valuations As both experienced auctioneers and RICS registered valuers, our auction team are well placed in providing specialist machinery valuations for a variety of purposes, including taxation, disposal, dispute resolution and insolvency.
Total sale proceeds can be provided within minutes of the fall of the hammer for the last lot. An extensive buyer registration system, containing a significant number of prospective buyers who are notified of all Fisher German machinery auctions. A complete overview of sale statistics, including the number of lots sold, total sale price, highest sale price and sold average. User friendly reports and statements, detailing sale results and buyer details.
On-farm and online timed machinery auctions often attract premium sale prices in comparison to other more traditional methods of sale
Quality second hand machinery remains increasingly attractive, as manufacturer’s prices for new agricultural machinery continue to rise and as farmers face a challenging agricultural climate. Our experience has proven that machinery auctions attract a premium over other methods of disposal, particularly as buyers can see where the machinery has come from, proving its authenticity.
