FEDERICA GIULIANINI paper & fluid

Federica Giulianini was born in 1990 in Ravenna where she lives and works. After taking her diploma at the P.L. Nervi Art School of Ravenna, she enrolled at the Fine Arts Academy of Bologna where she took the three year degree course in painting and two year specialist course in visual arts/painting, receiving top marks. Her artistic research inquires into the optical vibrations of nature, fed on a poetic, historic cultural and mythological sensibility drawn from revisitation of her journals. Her itinerary includes mixed and eclectic techniques using old paper and wooden panels. She is strongly attached to painting and drawing that bring her decisive sign and chromatic component into relation. Federica is interested in the dynamics of nature, forms, lines and spaces, and in the in nite con gurations she generates from multiple free and living entities. In her words: “What I put forward at the heart of my artistic work is continual research and the desire to redesign the aesthetic language of pictorial form through my knowledge, originating those cosmoses and their alchemical details in new perspectives by overcoming the standards of current time. This observation leaves questions and answers of free imagination for the beholder, setting a reaction on that suspended time which marks Federica’s painting. She began exhibiting in 2011 and has constantly taken part in solo and group shows, competitions and publications, artist residences and workshops in national and international galleries and museums.

Federica Giulianini, micro worlds. Tobia DonĂ

The work that Federica Giulianini has been working for a few years is not only an aesthetic but an ethical project, a commitment to excellence in its lowest form, meticulous and imperceptible fragments of time and existence that she herself defines "micro worlds". They are like small points of a line, the endless coincidences that combine our lives, but more precisely what we are. The support used is paper. The choice of this material is already an investment of meaning. It is about ancient documents, from the early decades of the twentieth century, that her family has accumulated because of their work activities. Registers, records, documents of trade, linked to her history and that of her ancestors, and to the territory. Often combined with the immersion in water, in a kind of creative baptism, through a mixed telluric resurface and they come back to life in their former identity. Surfaces in which the artist now identify she herself, and where she found a place of thought to stay spiritually anchored , to reduce the borders and the distance that the creative act could establish with their world. Ravenna is the city of the Byzantine mosaics, of the colors and the ancient symbols, Federica lived there and there she developed her ideas that now reveal herself in the deep blacks, in colors sometimes bright, sometimes delicate, not based on the speed of improvisation, but on the vibrating sign that runs through trembling veins of a microscopic life. Positive and encouraging images of our partecipation at the great journey undertaken since the primordial explosion, if ever there was one. A handwriting of her femininity, in the context of nature. Are concretions of pigments able to reactivate metaphors and pre-birth instincts, composed of primordial energies which hold, as tight in a closed fist, all the things that will remain forever unknown to men. Genetic impulses of new forms, new figures, not instants locked in memory like sediments, but other possibilities on the metaphorical and dilated blackboard of time. A slow, a very, very slow emergence of forms which gradually have been transmuted and transformed, as if the deep mystery can not be revealed. It is the inexhaustible symbolic complexity of the more defined signs that provoke the same amazement felt by the ancients in front of the incomprehensible.

And once again the world that is above, below and within us, remains pure contemplation, in the incessant unfolding of stains and nebulae that were also alive once or who will become alive in short time, silent and inexhaustible fate of men and gods.
