Both of these photographs capture the play of shadow and light, however the left image is out of focus and dark, thus showing less background contrast. The image on the right features better composition and lighting, context, and human interaction.
All these photographs capture pattern detail, but the images on the right feature better lighting, more interplay with the natural elements, and create multiple layers of context.
