INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER A message from the (former)

Time for one last message from the one formerly known as your Interim General Manager.

The time spent in this role has been a pleasure. Each day was filled with new challenges and I enjoyed every second of it (ok... so maybe not every second of it but definitely, almost most of it.) You were welcoming and encouraging and, together, I believe we made positive steps forward for Loch Lloyd Country Club. A special thanks to those who went out of their way to make me feel welcome while filling these shoes. Your pop-ins were a highlight of the days, your notes will forever be filed away in my HAPPINESS FOLDER (it’s a real thing) and your words of support will stay with me. I reflect with heartfelt thanks as I turn my attention to the exciting journey ahead.

I was fortunate to be involved in the selection process of our new Club President. Not only was I looking for someone who could handle the business aspects of the Club, I was looking for someone who would take care of each of you. A patient and compassionate ear, a forward thinker who honors the past with future visions, a leader full of grace and respect. Someone who understands the immense value we have in our associates and is ready to lead Loch Lloyd into the next chapter. It is my belief we found this in Ryan Craig. With an intense hospitality philosophy and a dedication to even the smallest of details, I am confident he is the choice that will take us to the next level of excellence.

Join me in giving Ryan Craig a warm Loch Lloyd welcome.

Take care and stay well,

CLUB PRESIDENT A message from the

Dear Loch Lloyd Members,

I am honored and excited to address you as your new Club President for the first time.

In my first week here, I've had the chance to meet many of you, and I must say, the warmth and kindness I've received have been truly heartwarming. Thank you for making me feel so welcome!

From my initial interactions, I can already see so many opportunities to become one of the premier country clubs in the Midwest, and I'm eager to get started. Over the next few weeks, my goal is to observe our Club from all angles, listen intently to everyone I meet, identify areas where we can make improvements, and tackle outstanding issues with a well-thought-out plan that benefits everyone involved.

My door is always open, and I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences. As my family and I settle into Kansas City, I look forward to meeting with each of you. My schedule will become more consistent around the middle of August, which will provide more opportunities for us to connect.

It's the little things that make a big difference in creating unforgettable experiences. With your feedback and patience, I'm confident we can exceed your expectations.

Thank you again for the warm welcome. I'm excited about what lies ahead and can't wait to see what we can accomplish together.

Warm regards,

OPERATIONS Golf

GOLF COURSE

SUPERINTENDENT Grant Suderman

A career in the turf industry automatically turns you into an amateur meteorologist. You are constantly checking the weather, either praying for rain or hoping that a huge storm just misses the golf course. In the case of this year’s 4th of July, nature’s fireworks did not miss the club as a large storm brought plenty of rainfall and flooding to the golf course. I always say to never complain about rain, but flood events are never welcome. Many golf courses are naturally built on flood plains that are very susceptible to flooding. Although Loch Lloyd is not as prone to flooding as many properties, we do have areas that flood on average 2 to 3 times a year.

Flooding of the golf course can have a devastating longterm effect, yet typically the course just needs time to drain to allow the GCM team time to repair the course

Many times, damage caused by large rain and flood events are not seen due to the planning and hard work of the maintenance team. For the cleanup process to begin, water levels of the surrounding waterways need to fall below the drainage lines on the golf course thus allowing water to drain from the course.

The drainage we installed in the fairways this past year has dramatically helped with this process as we were able to allow carts off path within 48 hours of the 4th of July flood event!

Once the water recedes the cleanup process begins. Tree damage and debris from high winds as well as debris deposited by flooding is removed from the golf course. Silt that is deposited by flooding is washed into course drains where at all possible. Any silt that has contaminated bunkers needs to be picked up and removed. New bunker sand is then brought in to replace the removed contaminated sand. In the case of heavy rain events, almost all bunkers will have large washouts where the sand on the edges of the bunkers wash down to the middle of the bunker. These bunker washouts are the most common damage from rain events and require the most strenuous labor hours to fix.

HOLE #3 FLOODING BUNKER AND ACROSS APPROACH

The washed sand will need manually pushed and/or carried back to the edges of the bunkers where it will be applied at the correct depth for golf. In the case of the 4th of July storm, it took 215 labor hours to repair the bunkers back to normal condition. This physically demanding process can have a lingering effect on the golf maintenance team that once completes fixing flood damage, is then tasked to catch up on all routine maintenance practices.

Landscaped areas where mulch is applied also requires maintenance to replace or fix washouts from large rain events. Common negative effects on turf from flooding are the deposit of the sediment and over saturation of turf. These issues can cause yellowing and turf decline due to the turf losing its ability to uptake oxygen and necessary nutrients.

We thank you for your support as we remain committed to providing Loch Lloyd Country Club with the best golfing experience in Kansas City. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at grants@lochlloyd.com.

LLLGA INFORMATION

July was an exciting month for our LLLGA members. We had 48 spirited golfers participate in our Red, White & Blue Blast on July 2nd. It’s the one event we host each year in which men can participate – by teeing up some fanciful libations for our ladies to enjoy as they swung by! And, they did a mighty fine job of keeping the fun flowing!

We also held our annual Solheim Cup in which 28 LLLGA members faced off in opposing Red and Blue teams to secure some bragging rights and, new this year, some cold, hard cash for winning the most matches The Red “Hot” contenders were determined to live up to their name and, on day one, managed to win one more match than their Blue opponents. However, the tables turned on day two as the Blue team streaked past their Red opponents to emerge as this year’s winners earning a two day total of 12 points to the Red team’s 9 It was a great event and we can’t wait to put our game faces on for next year’s matches!

July also provided two guest day opportunities; a 9-hole Informal Guest Day on July 24th, and an 18-hole Formal Guest Day on July 30th. We had 64 ladies participate in the 9-hole Guest Day and, as of this writing, 58 ladies are signed up to play in the 18-hole Guest Day.

The LLLGA doesn’t have any special events planned for August but we hope to see many of you at our regular play days:

PLAY DAYS:

18-holes: August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th

9-holes: August 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th

As we plod through the dog days of summer, remember to stay hydrated, protect your skin and eyes from those UV rays and seek shade whenever possible when you’re out in the sun.

Until my next post, keep cool and swing easy!
