OPERATIONS Sean Hanna, Director of Golf
On behalf of the entire golf operations team, we extend to our members a “Happy New Year!” As the team prepares for the 2024 golf season, we are looking forward to bringing some new products and apparel lines for you to enjoy. With the winter weather now here, I would like to remind you there are two holes cut on each green. The Golf Maintenance Team cuts two holes to help spread out traffic on the greens during the winter months. We ask that when you are playing, remove the flagstick and place it in the opposite cup when you have finished putting out. Basically, you are making the group behind you play to a different hole location. As a reminder, frost delays are a possibility during the winter, so please check for your daily updates or call the golf shop to see if there are any delays. GOLF SHOP BUYERS ADVANTAGE CLUB Beginning in January, the Loch Lloyd Golf Shop will be selling members the opportunity to join our Advantage Club. The perks to join the club are as follows: 10% off hard goods (clubs) and accessories 20% off apparel and shoes A one-time apparel shopping spree in which you receive all apparel at 25% off. Additional 5% off any posted sale pricing The cost to join the club is $200 per membership and the $200 will be immediately applied to your golf shop credit book. The opportunity to join the club will be from January 3rd through May 31st. CLUB RE-GRIP SPECIAL During the month of January, we will be offering a 20% discount when you regrip your golf clubs at the Golf Shop. We have a wide variety of grips in stock, and if we don’t have the one you prefer, we can order it in for you. This is a great time of the year to get your clubs back to “good as new” condition in preparation for the coming golf season. Who knows, maybe you’ll even knock a stroke or two off your scores! Please contact the Golf Shop if you are interested in taking advantage of this offer. GOLF SHOP JANUARY HOURS OF OPERATION Starting on January 3rd, 2024 the Golf Shop will open at 9:00 a.m. This will remain the opening time for the Golf Shop throughout the month of February. See you on the first tee,
-Sean

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Grant Suderman
Frost is a common occurrence on many cold
mornings. Heavy frosts can cause golf delays disrupting morning schedules. So why do we enforce frost delays? Frost is a thin layer of ice that has the potential to cause lasting turf damage where traffic occurs. Closely mowed turf such as a golf green is extremely vulnerable to damage from frost. Frost damage looks aesthetically unpleasing and can cause unacceptable playing conditions due to turf decline or death.
DAMAGED TURF FROM FOOT TRAFFIC ON FROST
THE PROBLEM Frost-covered turf is susceptible to immediate damage from traffic. Ice crystals on and inside the plant can puncture cell walls and cell organs. Entire plants can be killed when traffic occurs on heavily frosted turf grass surfaces, leaving patches or streaks of dead turf where traffic occurred. Damage to the turf will occur immediately and the symptoms of the damage become obvious as the turf grows. Healing may not occur until the next growing season begins. BEST COURSE OF ACTION The time-honored tradition of avoiding frosted turf is recommended and has produced good results over time. In the big picture, the disruption to golf is small, yet it prevents injury to the turf. Rapid and clear communication should reduce the inconvenience and make frost delays less frustrating. Thanks for your cooperation in following our frost delay protocols to protect the course from unnecessary damage. PLEASE AVOID ALL USE OF THE GROUNDS DURING THESE FROST EVENTS as all turf is susceptible to damage. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at grants@lochlloyd.com.

Operations Director Kim Palmer We CELEBRATED the holiday season the entire month of December. The Holiday Lighting Ceremony, Ladies Holiday Luncheon, Loch Smith’s Pop-Up Holiday Performance, Santa Brunch, a Gingerbread House Party and a large handful of member-hosted holiday parties. We are tired and we are thankful. THANK YOU for creating memories with us at Loch Lloyd. This year’s celebrations felt different and I believe it’s because of the engagement of the smaller members of Loch Lloyd. As we have seen our membership increase, we have seen our child population grow and nothing brings JOY during the holidays like seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter, and feeling their excitement. I see the new generation of Loch Lloyd in the faces of the littles and I love it. The future is as bright as the holiday lights that adorn the Clubhouse! Food & Beverage news includes positive comments on some new menu items (I can’t spell jagerschnitzel without the help of Google but I can tell you it’s delicious). And the spirits menu, specifically the new Cocktail of the Month program has been very well received. Chef will continue to craft a new menu 3-4 times per year and we anticipate the next version will hit in the late Spring. If you receive a dining survey, we encourage you to fill it out. We take this feedback and use it to tweak operations from the serving staff to the menu. Surveys are sent randomly so if you don’t receive one, I still encourage you to give us feedback. My email is kimp@lochlloyd.com and you can always catch me in the halls of the Clubhouse (and you can usually hear my high heels walking your way before you see me). In closing, I want to share two of my favorite new memories from this season and yes - it has it do with the littles of Loch (anyone sensing they may be my favorite members?). First, we got to see the NEWEST and TINIEST member sit on Santa’s lap... Baby Josie Augustine
My other favorite new memory. With the second holiday season at the Club under my belt, I have had a front row seat to watching the kiddos grow! This is one of the adorable Overstreet twins 2022 vs 2023. While he has grown like a weed, his gaze at the Big Guy hasn’t changed!

LLLGA INFORMATION It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and I hope you’re enjoying every bit of it! The club has certainly offered plenty of good time opportunities in December from brunches, lunches, dinners and pop-up events, a little bit of something for everyone! Hopefully you’ve been able to partake in some of those. I can vouch for the great time I had at all three of them; the Ladies Luncheon, Duckhorn Wine Dinner and Santa Brunch. It’s probably safe to say the other events were just as enjoyable. As we look forward to the start of 2024, we’ve already scoped out dates for our LLLGA play days and events. More info on those will be shared soon. We hope all current members will renew in 2024 to take advantage of our new play day schedule; Tuesday mornings for 18-hole play and Wednesday evenings for 9-holes. There are also guest days and fun events, such as the two-day Solheim Cup and the 9-hole Red, White and Blue event that has drawn lots of attention and participation with its “spirited” theme! While several of you will already be out of town enjoying some warmer climates, a number of us remain behind to hold down the fort. For those of us braving the Kansas City winter weather, we want to keep our LLLGA connection going. Starting in January, we will announce informal lunch gatherings. The thought is to meet for some fireside dining the third Wednesday in January, February and March. Save those third Wednesday dates on your calendars and, if you’re in town, plan on joining us. And, while in your calendar, save the date of April 23, 2024 for our LLLGA Opening Day and Dinner. More info will be provided in advance of these events as we get closer to those dates. On behalf of the LLLGA Board, we wish you all the best of health and happiness in 2024! And, as F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right.”
