A message from the
INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER
For those scholars who regularly read my emails, you are my favorite and I apologize if you find redundancy in the following information.
A couple of weeks ago, we announced upcoming renovations to your Loch Lloyd Country Club. First, the Upstairs Men’s Locker Room. This space has been renovated and is officially open to male Full Golf Members 18 and over and Social Members when accompanied by a Full Golf Member. This space offers a fully staffed bar and food service Thursday through Sunday, 2 p.m. to close-perfect for socializing after a round of golf or taking in the latest sporting events. We do anticipate the days and hours of operation will change in May. We will host our official Grand Opening of this space Thursday, May 9th, 5pm until close.
As someone who walks the parking lot in a pair of heels daily, the next update is near and dear to my heart. Repairs to our parking lot, specifically lot mill and overlay, began April 22 and are scheduled to be completed May 4 (Mother Nature may have other plans) With brand-new asphalt, curbs, and parking lines, these improvements will eliminate current potholes and reduce potential hazards in the parking lot. The parking lots will remain open during construction, with small areas closed off at certain times In addition, we have repaired the parking lot lights to ensure a comfortable walk to your vehicle each night.
If you have visited the Club lately, the excitement is palpable and the nights are filled with members and families enjoying dining and drinks. To ensure we have comfortable space, we will be updating your Fireside experience to a more casual dining atmosphere, serving as an extension of the beloved 19th Hole. No reservations will be needed-just come as you are and enjoy. For those seeking a more formal dining atmosphere, we will continue to provide elegant options in our Formal Dining Room. Additionally, outdoor fine dining will be available by reservation only.
I'm excited to usher in a new era for our beloved Club and I appreciate the support from the members.
Take care and stay well.
Kim Palmer

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Grant Suderman
PRACTICE TEE ETIQUETTE
The intensive use that most practice tees receive can make them one of the most challenging areas to maintain on a golf course. Superintendents are always on the lookout for strategies that can help a practice tee perform better through constant wear and tear. Golfers love to practice and with every swing of an iron, a divot of turf is usually removed This means a lot of divots which require a lot of turf recovery before a tee stall may be returned to the same location.
Golfers greatly impact the amount of turf coverage and performance of practice tees. How one practices not only influences how much turf is removed with each swing, but also how quickly the turf will recover The three most common divot patterns – scattered, concentrated and linear – can be seen in the photo.
SCATTERED DIVOT PATTERN
Ascattered divot patternremoves the most amount of turf because a full divot is removed with every swing Scattering divots results in the most turf loss and uses up the largest area of a tee stall. This forces the golf facility to rotate tee stalls most frequently and often results in an inefficient use of the tee.
CONCENTRATED DIVOT PATTERN
Aconcentrated divot patternremoves all turf in a given area. While this approach does not necessarily result in a full-sized divot being removed with every swing, by creating a large void in the turf canopy there is little opportunity for timely turf recovery
LINEAR DIVOT PATTERN
Thelinear divot patterninvolves placing each shot directly behind the previous divot. In so doing, a linear pattern is created and only a small amount of turf is removed with each swing. This can usually be done for 15 to 20 shots before moving sideways to create a new line of divots. So long as a minimum of 4 inches of live turf is preserved between strips of divots, the turf will recover quickly. Because this divot pattern removes the least amount of turf and promotes quick recovery, it is the preferred method.
We thank you for your efforts on practice tee etiquette as we remain committed to providing Loch Lloyd Country Club with the best golfing experience in Kansas City. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at grands@lochlloyd.com.

LLLGA INFORMATION
With KC Current’s winning record (and playing in the first women’s professional sports stadium in the world!) and the increased attention that Caitlin Clark has brought to women’s basketball, I would say the light is shining bright on female athletes.
Now it’s our turn to shine! A record number of ladies joined our 2024 Loch Lloyd Ladies Golf Association (LLLGA) – 115 as of this writing. Wow! Thank you to all who have signed up. We can’t wait to see you all out on the course!
Though the online LLLGA registration window has closed, if you didn’t get around to signing up and want to join this fun group of golfers, call the Pro Shop and they’ll get you signed up.
While there are still some ladies out of town for the winter, nearly half of the membership was expected to be at the Opening Day dinner on April 23, also a record! Most will have played in the Opening Day scramble event leading up to the dinner. At the dinner, info was shared on key things to know about the league, what to expect in the coming months and how to use the new app for signups and information. If you still have questions on how to use the new app, please call the Pro Shop for assistance.
Future newsletter articles will provide highlights of past events and announcements of upcoming ones. I will also be sending occasional emails to all members to announce and communicate special events, activities and other information you should know.
Looking ahead to May, we’ll be full steam ahead with 18-hole play days on May 7, 14, and 21 and 9-hole play days on May 1, 8, 22 and 29. In addition to these LLLGA play days, the Pro Shop is hosting a Ladies Member-Member event on Thursday and Friday, May 16 & 17 And, it all kicks off with a cocktail party the evening prior! This event is available for sign-up on the Loch Lloyd app. It’s a fun event with a shotgun start at 1:00 on Thursday, so you can really enjoy the cocktail party on Wednesday night , and a great opportunity to get to know your fellow golfers. So, don’t wait, grab a partner and sign up!
Happy golfing, everyone! And, remember, “When it’s breezy, hit it easy.” Davis Love, Jr.
