OPERATIONS Golf

Sean Hanna, Director of Golf

May is always one of best golfing months on the calendar and the month that officially tees off the golfing season. Warmer and drier days start to emerge and that gives everyone the itch to start playing golf on a regular basis whether it be solo or with their regular groups. It is also the month that our tournament season gets underway.

We not only start our two season long events this month, Fourball Match play and the Individual Match Play that are open to both the ladies and the gentlemen, but the Scotty is scheduled as well, which is guaranteed to be a wonderful event for all participants.

As the golf course continues to get busier, please make sure to pay mind to the daily cart rules. These rules are emailed every morning to all golfers that are on the Tee Sheet. They can also be viewed on the television located outside of the Golf Shop and they are listed on the pin location sheet. Cart rules are important and aid us in keeping our playing conditions at a premium.

Please do your very best to pair up on golf carts. All members, regardless of whether you are using one of Loch Lloyd’s golf carts or your own personal golf cart you should pair up when applicable. Cart traffic puts a lot of stress on the golf course, so by pairing up, we are limiting golf cart traffic.

Lastly, thank you to everyone that participated in our spring fitting days, your continued support is greatly appreciated

Play ready golf and see you on the first tee,

6

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Grant Suderman

Dear Members,

Spring will forever be my favorite time of the year. Animals awaken, flowers bloom, plants grow, grass turns green and golfer's golf! I also love spring because it gives the golf course maintenance team the opportunity to enhance the course prior to the busy season In this newsletter I will focus on our most recent course project, fairway drainage

Low lying fairway areas that remain saturated following rain events have continued to be a challenge. Eliminating these saturated areas throughout the course will provide enhanced turf conditions and playability We also expect to minimize traffic restrictions with drier conditions

Last winter, fairway drainage was installed on holes #3 & 10 to eliminate select wet areas Upon seeing the positive results and enhanced turf quality, a fairway drainage plan to address all problematic fairway areas was implemented for 2023. Phase 1 & 2 of this 5-phase project began in March with drainage installed on holes #1,3,6,9,17 & 18. These holes were prioritized due to having extensive problematic areas and/or traffic flow limitations The remaining three phases of this project will continue in October to limit disruption to golf and will be completed in 2023 The phases are listed below.

PHASE 1 HOLES #1, 3, 9

PHASE 2 HOLES #17, 18, PART 6

PHASE 3 HOLES #4, 6

PHASE 4 HOLES #7, 8, 10, 12

PHASE 5 HOLES #14, 15, 16

FAIRWAY DRAINAGE BEING INSTALLED ON HOLE #17

We thank you for your patience when performing course enhancement projects as we remain committed to providing Loch Lloyd Country Club with the best golfing experience in Kansas City. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at grants@lochlloyd.com.

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” – William Shakespeare This month was packed with activities for members of all ages and we hosted a handful of events for the “newbies” that created great memories.

Newbies, as defined as new members to Loch Lloyd, were paired with experienced golf members and they hit the links for New Kids on the Loch. A 9-Hole event focused on a spirit of community, unity and great golf.

Newbies, as defined as human beings that are on the younger side of life, enjoyed an EGGCELLENT Easter complete with face painters, balloon artists, arts & crafts and a spirited Easter Egg Hunt. This celebration was topped off with a REAL lamb… fleece may not have been white as snow but the littles didn’t mind.

They also got a dose of the golf side of things with our first event COMPLETE & PUTTER MADNESS hosted on the Event Lawn.

Newbies, as defined as members ready to learn and try new things, tackled the wild world of BUNCO!!

Those dice rolling, crazy “kids” took over the Formal Dining Room for a night of winners, wine and a little but if whining (for those who didn’t win).

THANK YOU to all who have engaged in our activities It is our hope we are helping you make lasting memories I would like to encourage each of you consider attending an upcoming event – even if it is a little outside your comfort zone It’s a great opportunity to see friends, meet new friends, and become a part of the Loch Lloyd Country Club community Oh and it’s fun We have LOTS of fun

On the Food & Beverage side of things, Chef and his team are working on final tweaks for the next version of the menu I anticipate 80% will remain the same and modifications will be made based on what our top and bottom selling items are, what will be seasonably favorable for your pallets and member suggestions This project has gotten a little delayed (originally it was scheduled to be a March date) and I am now anticipating June for a revamped menu, a new look to the menu itself, and a specifically crafted cocktail menu What isn’t delayed is the new food offerings at the Comfort Station Again – we heard you and made changes that align with the needs and wants of our members New food options available NOW!

As the weather continues to improve, you will start seeing seasonal faces around the Clubhouse Some fan favorites from past years will once again join the team and we will also welcome new associates to the Loch Lloyd family. We are all here to ensure your experience is exceptional so please don't hesitate to let us know how we can assist you!

& CLUBHOUSE HOURS OF OPERATION

Thank you to all the ladies who braved the ferocious winds to play in our Opening Day scramble golf event and to those who joined us for dinner! We know some of you are still out of town, or had other commitments, and we can’t wait to see you at an upcoming play day or event.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS OF OUR OPENING DAY EVENT:

First Place: Lori McConnell, Holly Combest, Julie Farrell, Karen Williams

Second Place: Kylie Nicholas, Annette Cundith, Joni Etherington

Third Place: Linda Miller, Terri Thomas, Lindsay Elder, Eileen Joyce

And, we even had a prize for the team who had the most “FUN”! Congratulations to Linda Enright, Pam Hamer and Elizabeth Edwards who got the most out of the course. Unfortunately, we all got so excited to finally open up our season and see everyone that we forgot to take pictures! So, just picture a lot of happy, smiling faces

The 2023 LLLGA Booklet was distributed at the meeting. If you weren’t there, copies will be available for you. The booklet contains a lot of good information on our play day schedule, formats and prizes, yearend awards, and interclub play opportunities through ICSGWA, Team Play and WGAKC All that information and more is in your booklet so be sure to keep it handy for reference throughout the season. Also, the Roster listing all LLLGA members, with contact info, is being printed and will be available to you soon I’ve been asked if versions of both documents will be available electronically I’ll look into putting these in an easy to access location and let you know!

For those of you who enjoyed our opening day team format, we are going to have Foursome Fun Days once a month. The dates for those are in your booklets and will be announced in advance as reminders. We will also be formatting our 9-hole play to accommodate the varying skill levels of players who are mainly available for evening play or are new to the game Regardless of when you are available, we will do our best to provide you with opportunities for a fun round of golf and time to socialize afterwards!

I would like to once again thank everyone who contributed to a successful Opening Day event, including our Golf Shop Professionals, Food and Beverage Staff, LLLGA Board members and all of you who were there! I’m looking forward to many more successful play days and events!
