November at The Country Club at Loch Lloyd

Page 1

Dear Members, It doesn’t seem possible but the holidays are right around the corner! Looking ahead to November and December, we know that the next two months (much like the last eight months) will not be quite the same as last year. But, with a little patience and perseverance, we can make this work. Our team is thinking outside the box for ways to celebrate the holidays while keeping members and staff safe. This includes planning menus for holiday dinners to go, preparing for our annual festive Clubhouse decorations and holiday tree lighting and scheduling a virtual wine and spirits sales event. Look for details coming soon. While we have had two temporary closures in the past eight months due to COVID, our entire staff continues to clean, sanitize, mask-up and provide exemplary service to our members on a daily basis. Of course, we couldn’t do any of it without you. While we appreciate our members every day of the year, during this season of thanks we especially want you to know how much we value your loyalty and thank you for your continued support.

It’s time for the final PGA major of the year, The Masters! In November!! What a fitting way to conclude the crazy 2020 year. It should be pretty cool (no pun intended) to see Augusta National in the fall. Let’s hope for a great tournament and maybe a historic victory from Tiger to cap off a strange golf season. Now that we have turned the page to November, our 2020 tournament season has come to an end. Thank you to all who participated in this year’s events and congratulations to all of the lucky and skilled competitors that took home victories. We are beginning to work through the 2021 event calendar and are sure to have a great variety of events for you to enjoy next season.

SEAN HANNA DIRECTOR OF GOLF seanh@lochlloyd.com

While the colder weather is sure to set in soon, don’t hang up your golf clubs for the year! The golf course is in fantastic condition and there are sure to be many great fall days ahead of us before the snow falls. Tee times will now begin at 9a daily and remain in effect until April of 2021. Please check ForeTees for daily updates on the weather forecast to be advised of frost delays or inclement weather. In preparation for colder weather, the ice/ water dispenser has been removed from the comfort station until next spring. This is done annually to prevent water lines in the machines from freezing. Congratulations to Wilma Collado, the 2020 Player of the Year in the Loch Lloyd Ladies’ Golf Association! See all the 2020 LLLGA Winners on page 6.

Have you joined Loch Lloyd’s Hole-in-One Club yet? When you enroll in Loch Lloyd’s Hole-in-One Club, a $10 fee is charged to your account anytime a member in the Hole-in-One Club aces a hole. If YOU ace the hole, your member account is credited the full amount from all Hole-in-One Club members. Half the winnings are applied as a credit in your Golf Shop credit book; the other half may be used on the day of your hole-in-one to ease the burden of the time-honored tradition of buying everyone a celebratory drink. Any leftover winnings are applied to your Golf Shop credit book.

As another season comes close to an end, we are pleased with the current course conditions. The team has been working diligently to wrap up some final practices such as overseeding rough, topdressing programs, fall fertility and a few other applications on the greens to get them ready for any harsh conditions coming our way. Also, as you can see from the couple of pictures below, we’ve gone through all greenside bunkers working the sand, plate tamping and redistributing sand accordingly. I am very proud of all of our associates for working tireless hours on and off the golf course this year!

 Improved communication prior to teeing off with daily course happenings  Quarterly report overview (if you have not seen the Fall edition, please reach out and I’d be happy to send you a copy)  New cart fleet  Upcoming winter focus which includes fairway drainage as our main priority

Lastly, as it relates to the weather, at the time of writing this for the newsletter, we’ve only had one rain event since the beginning of September! It’s been unusually dry and the graph on the right clearly outlines how dry we’ve been the past few months. Currently, year-to-date we are close to two inches below historical averages and nearly 30 inches below 2019! Who knows what’s coming!

Back in October, Sean and I hosted our first “Roundtable Discussion.” Thank you to all who took the time to attend. I enjoyed our time together very much and appreciated the openness of the group as well as the questions, concerns and comments. I felt the meeting was very positive and look forward to doing this on a more regular basis. With the winter months upon us, we’ll hold off on our next gathering since so many members leave the area during the winter. However, I wanted to share a short recap of just a few of the topics we discussed last month:

At this joyous time of year, I certainly hope you’ll take a moment to be thankful for all that truly matters. Sincerely, Jeff Steen, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

We officially celebrated the end of the season on Wednesday, October 7th! The day was enhanced by warm sunshine, gentle breezes and a perfect 75 degrees! We capped it off with an evening of cocktails/dinner, award presentations, raffle and introduction of the 2021 officers.

As challenging as 2020 has been, the ladies of the LLLGA made the most of it by actively playing our beautiful course. Wednesday and Thursday Play Day participation exceeded last year’s numbers! We enjoyed welcoming several new members to the association this year and saw an increase in popularity of the Partnership Challenge Matches, completing its second season. If temperatures cooperate and we are lucky enough to play Loch Lloyd this winter (or if you head to warmer climates), don’t forget the GHIN applications are open all year. As I step back from my role as LLLGA President, I want to welcome the 2021 officers and chairpersons and thank each of them, in advance, for donating their time to continue to make ladies’ golf enjoyable for all! Best, Ruth

As we head into the busy holiday season, I want to thank you for your unwavering support of the Club. I also want to thank my hard-working staff for their tireless efforts. This dedicated team makes me very proud. Despite the ups and downs we’ve all faced this year, my team rises to the challenge every day! While we won’t be hosting our traditional Thanksgiving Feast this year, we are offering a Thanksgiving Dinner To-Go menu (see next page) with your choice of two packages plus a bottle of wine to enjoy with your dinner. Please read the article below regarding your food and beverage minimums for 2020. This information was sent out via email but we wanted to include it in this issue to ensure all members are aware of this important information. On behalf of the entire Food & Beverage team, we would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving! Megan Hanrahan Director of Food & Beverage meganh@lochlloyd.com 816.322.1022, ext. 330

Throughout 2020, in an effort to lighten the burden that came with meeting food and beverage minimums, the Club made the decision to postpone these requirements and allow any remaining balance to carry over to the forthcoming quarter. This policy will continue through this year; however, any remaining unspent minimum balance needs to be spent by the end of 2020 or fourth quarter, depending on your type of membership and last name. Annual Social & Annual Dining Members Members have a quarterly food and beverage minimum which needs to be spent by the end of business on December 31, 2020. Full Golf & Sechrest Members Members have a quarterly food and beverage minimum, based on the last name of the primary member, which must be spent by the end of business on the following dates:

WINE WEDNESDAYS are BACK! 50% OFF featured wines by the bottle

and

15% OFF “From the Vines” bottles! Available for in-Club dining only; not including Cellar Select offerings.

Last name A-G: December 31, 2020 Last name H-N: January 31, 2021 Last name O-Z: February 28, 2021 By offering our proactive communication, we hope this will allow you time to make a plan to use your minimum. You’ll find your unspent minimum on your monthly statement. As a reminder, only the net price of food and/or beverage applies to your minimum, not including tax or service fee. All food and/or beverages purchased for in-Club dining or take-out service applies toward your minimum. Bottles of wine or liquor also apply toward your minimum (and make great holiday gifts). The Club plans to hold our annual Wine & Spirits Sale (virtually) in November, offering yet another opportunity for you to spend your minimum.
