November has arrived and with that, the 2021 tournament season has come to an end. Thank you to all who participated in this year’s events and congratulations to all of the lucky and skilled competitors that took home victories. We are beginning to work through the 2022 event calendar and are sure to have a great variety of events for you to enjoy next season! While the colder weather is sure to set in soon, don’t hang up your golf clubs for the year! The golf course is in fantastic condition and there are sure to be many great fall days ahead of us before the snow falls.
SEAN HANNA DIRECTOR OF GOLF seanh@lochlloyd.com
Tee times will begin at 9a each day of the week during the month of November. Please check ForeTees for daily updates on the weather forecast to be advised of any potential frost delays or inclement weather. In preparation for colder weather, the ice/water dispenser will be removed from the Comfort Station on the golf course until next spring. This is done annually to prevent the water lines in the machines from freezing. Congratulations to Julie Farrell, the 2021 Player of the Year in the Loch Lloyd Ladies’ Golf Association! Beginning on Tuesday, November 2nd, the Practice Facility will transition to our winter set-up. All golf balls will be set up on the synthetic mats rather than the Zoysiagrass teeing areas. We make this transition because the Zoysiagrass has gone dormant and is no longer able to recover from divots that are created. Our Zoysiagrass teeing areas will open in the spring.

COURSE CARE: HOW YOU CAN HELP Fall has arrived as cooler weather has made its way to Kansas City. We went from 90 degrees on October 9th to our first fall frost on October 16th! Although currently there isn’t snow in the forecast, over the past three seasons the first snow arrived about three weeks after the last 90-degree day. Let’s hope this trend doesn’t continue and that we get to enjoy great fall golf weather! As the seasons change and turf recovery slows down, I want to highlight ways you can help care for the course. Golfers should always be willing to do their part in course care. The individual efforts from golfers can make a big impact on playing conditions. Here are four ways golfers can help care for the course: Traffic Stress: Golf rounds at Loch Lloyd have risen significantly since 2020. This is great news for the Club and industry. What these added rounds also bring is added traffic. Cart traffic can be detrimental due to increased turf wear and grants@lochlloyd.com soil compaction. Always check in with the Golf Shop to receive the cart rules for the day. Cart rules are posted in the ForeTees email, pin sheet, Golf Shop display board and cart monitors. This year we implemented an entry/exit cart system whereby carts are to enter the course from the path after the green post and then exit before the red post. These posts are moved daily to limit traffic stress in centralized areas. Please also abide by any cart signs or roped areas protecting either new sod, seeded turf or wet conditions. Frost delays are common this time Follow the GCM of year; please keep foot and cart traffic off frost at all times. Frost damage is team on Twitter! unsightly and can last for months during the winter season. GRANT SUDERMAN SUPERINTENDENT
Please check us out at @LochLloydGCM
Ball Marks: Unrepaired ball marks can affect ball roll and take weeks to recover. A properly repaired ball mark gives the turf opportunity to heal faster. It can be very time consuming for the maintenance team to fix every ball mark. After fixing your ball mark, look for any nearby ball marks you can also repair. If you’re viewing this newsletter electronically, click the link below to watch a video demonstrating how to properly fix your ball mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ6CegCUPfw Divots: Properly repairing divots helps the turf recover quickly and helps restore a smooth playing surface. An unrepaired divot can take months to heal and it may never fully recover. Repairing divots maintains good playability for your fellow golfers and sets a positive example of caring for the course. If there is not recoverable turf to place in the divot, use the sand provided on your cart to fill up and smooth out the divot. Rake Bunkers: Being in the bunker is already a frustrating situation. Don’t make the situation worse for the next golfer by not raking out disturbed areas or footprints from your entry. Rakes are placed at the edge of every bunker for you to use. After you are finished raking, place the rake back at the edge of the bunker where you found it for the next golfer. We all take great pride in course conditions and thank you for your joint effort in helping maintain this beautiful course at its highest quality. Please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns or additional ways to help!

As part of the Club’s response to the food and beverage staffing crisis, we introduced the first of several creative solutions to assist with our current reduced staff size: The Honor Bar. This convenient new program allows golf members to use the ForeTees Mobile App to purchase non-alcoholic beverages and an assortment of snacks and sandwiches while on the course. The Honor Bar, located at the Comfort Station between holes #5 and #14, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10a to 5p.
Since rolling out the program on October 12th, many members have already used this service and the numbers are growing every day. We’re very happy with the results and want to thank everyone who is participating! If you haven’t tried The Honor Bar, we hope you will soon. The easy-to-follow steps may be found below. Please see Sarah at the Clubhouse for assistance with the ForeTees App.
To use The Honor Bar, you’ll need to install the ClubCentral by ForeTees Mobile App on your smart phone via the App Store for Apple users or the Play Store for Android users. Once installed, please contact the Golf Shop at 816.322.2117 and a one-time password for accessing the app will be generated for you. After logging in the first time, you will never have to enter the password again.
STEP 1: Using the ForeTees App, refresh the App and click the ORDERING ICON at the bottom of the home screen. Then click the HONOR BAR photo. STEP 2: Scroll through the menu to see our non-alcoholic beverage, snack and sandwich offerings. Click on your selection and indicate quantity. STEP 3: When you are finished placing your order, click CART in the lower right corner. Review your order and click CHECKOUT. STEP 4: To finish your order, click PLACE ORDER in the lower right corner. Your purchase(s) plus tax will be billed to your member account.
19th Hole Now Open at 8:30a For your convenience, the 19th Hole is now open at 8:30a Tuesday through Sunday. Golf members interested in purchasing beer and alcoholic beverages may make their purchases and stock cart coolers prior to play.
