Dear Member, The months are flying by! We are heading into the season of crisp weather, colorful leaves and more football (Go Chiefs!). As it gets cooler outside, we hope to see more of you inside the Clubhouse. Our Member Mingler on September 8th was a wonderful opportunity to get to know some of the new members who have joined the Loch Lloyd family this year. I would like to thank those of you who attended the event and helped to make our new members feel welcome. I hope to see some ghosts, aliens, princesses and super heroes at our annual Trunk or Treat event on Halloween evening. It’s a lot of fun to watch and even more fun to participate so let us know if you’d like to decorate a car or golf cart and distribute goodies to our littlest members.

As the calendar page turns to October, it’s time to start winding down on golf events and time to start thinking about the upcoming holidays. With the exception of a few season-long matches yet to be played, it’s hard to believe that the golf season is already over; it seems like it just started not so long ago. The 2021 Brigadoon Classic was a huge success and we thank everyone who participated in this year’s event! Congratulations to all of the flight winners and their guests. See photos from this year’s event on page 4 of this issue. The Men’s Gross Match Play event crowned Brent Mertz as this year’s champion. Congratulations also go out to our Mixed Club Champions, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Pat Hersma, Christopher Heckadon and Heather Renfro. SEAN HANNA DIRECTOR OF GOLF seanh@lochlloyd.com
The Practice Facility hours will be 8a to 6:30p Tuesday through Saturday as we begin the month of October. Sunday hours will be 8a to 5:30p so that our staff may clean-pick the range. As daylight shortens, Practice Facility closing hours will change at least once during the month. Please be on the lookout for an email with updated hours. Although it is starting to slow down on the course, please continue to take care of the golf course to the best of your ability. Please fix ball marks on the green, rake bunkers, fill divots, pay attention to cart rules and maintain a proper pace of play. Let’s enjoy our beautiful course during these terrific autumn days!

There is a $20 optional game for those who wish to get in on the “spooky action.” Bring a guest for only $60 that day (plus the additional $20 if they want to get into the game).

The fall season is upon us … bringing great weather for golf as well as courseenhancement projects. Many of these practices cause a short-term disruption which in turn provides long-term sustainability. We value your patience as we implement these cultural practices listed below. Sod Projects: We recently completed our fescue sod install on green surrounds #2, #3, #5 and #6. Fescue sod was used to replace the existing Bluegrass (Bentgrass on #2) which struggled with traffic and summer stress. Newer fescue varieties possess improved playability and summer stress tolerance. Zoysia sod has also been installed on select desiccated fairway areas on holes #7, #9, #14 and #16. Please abide by any roped-off areas to aid in turf establishment.
GRANT SUDERMAN SUPERINTENDENT
Seeding: We recently re-seeded #1 green tee and #3 approach (pictured below) to create a uniform, sustainable playing surface. Overseeding the rough will continue through October.

#1 green tee
#3 approach
Aerification: Greens aerification was completed August 23rd-24th. This proved to be a smooth process as all holes have recovered and grown in. We recently began aerifying and topdressing tee surfaces that were declining from traffic stress. Tee blocks will be temporarily moved to alternate tee surfaces to aid in the recovery of these tees. We plan to finish tee surfaces on October 4th. Natives: We continue to mow and trim native areas. These areas have grown aggressively the past few weeks but will slow as cooler weather approaches. Water Management: A top priority has been water management. We are constantly evaluating our irrigation practices and auditing our irrigation system to promote firm, consistent and healthy playing conditions. Best Regards, Grant Suderman Golf Course Superintendent
