FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT A Note

Hello October. The mellow, scent filled, leaf-kicking perfect pause between the opposing heat of summer and rigid colds of winter.

Do you remember the 21st night of September? Or the entire month for that matter. As we merge into our final months of 2023, September was filled with the final dog days of Summer in Loch Lloyd. Puppy Pool Pawty, Cheers Beers & BINGO and our ladies unfortunately rainy but full of comradery, Member-Guest tournament, The Brigadoon Classic. Don’t miss out on October’s Spooktacular events by viewing the rest of our monthly newsletter.

Please welcome our new Golf Members

I look forward to seeing each of you at the Club as exciting things are happening here at Loch Lloyd.

Sean Hanna, Director of Golf

As the calendar enters October, it’s time to start winding down on golf events and time to start thinking about the upcoming holidays. Except for a few season-long matches still yet to be played, it’s hard to believe that the golf season is already over, it seems like it just started not so long ago.

The Brigadoon Classic experienced some rainy weather. Golf was challenged but we managed to get the Thursday Scramble in and a few holes on Saturday in. The club will offer a makeup day on Saturday, October 7th for all members and their guests to come back and play an 18 Hole round to complete the 2023 Brigadoon Classic.

Although it is starting to slow down on the golf course, please continue to take care of the golf course to the best of your ability Properly fix ball marks on the green, rake bunkers, fill divots, pay attention to cart rules and maintain a proper pace of play Let’s enjoy our beautiful golf course during the terrific autumn days!

See you on the first tee,

Dear Members,

The past two years there has been and emphasis on improving fairway conditions Inherited dead or declined turf was never acceptable and we will exhaust all options to prevent any such conditions

Although we understand there is more to be done, we’re excited to see improved conditions. This is illustrated in the aerials of #18 below. We will continue emphasizing high quality fairway conditions moving forward. Listed below are implemented changes to the fairway management program.

Chemical/Fertilization – Sustainable programs were implemented including proper pre-emergent applications and a transition to a safe granular fertilization program

Irrigation – All irrigation heads were audited and properly managed to provide the most accurate amount of water that our irrigation system allows We make changes daily to provide healthy yet firm conditions

Mowing & Height of Cut (HOC) – We have maintained our HOC at a height that can withstand traffic while still providing quality playability. We mow only when the conditions allow to limit self-inflicted damage

Aerification – We have selectively aerified fairways during the growing season. Expect more aerification in the future to dethatch turf and break up compacted soils

Drainage – We have committed to installing fairway drainage to all zoysia grass fairways. This additional drainage will help dry out the low areas that hold water leading to turf decline Fairway drainage was installed on holes #1,3,9,10, 17 & 18 this spring. We plan to complete the remaining fairways this fall/winter

The picture on the left is from May 2019 The dark brown areas are saturated with water where drainage did not exist. The light brown areas were predominately slow growing turf due to incorrect mowing practices as well as winter kill on the high facing slopes. The picture on the right was taken in September 2023. There is no visible scars from poor drainage and the fairway is healthy due to the aforementioned changes to the program.

Thank you for your support as we remain committed to providing Loch Lloyd Country Club with the best golfing conditions in Kansas City

LLLGA INFORMATION

As we near the end of this year’s LLLGA golfing season, we’re already thinking about next year. We are grateful for the support of our ladies on our play days and we would like to see more of you out on the course. We know life happens and things come up that cause us to have to cancel or maybe not even sign up to play. And, there are a number of members with prior commitments that prevent them from participating on a regular basis. So, we’re planning to change things up a bit next year and move our 18-hole play day to Tuesdays and our 9-hole play day to Wednesday evenings. Based on the feedback we received, we’re hopeful this schedule change will allow more ladies to join us next year on our play days.

But this year isn’t over yet! By the time you read this, a number of us will have played in the Brigadoon, Loch Lloyd’s signature Member-Guest event. While not an LLLGA exclusive event, many of us enjoy inviting guests and partaking in the three days of golf and festivities.

Last but not least, our LLLGA play closing day is October 11th. Our special events committee is hard at work coordinating all details for this end of season golf and dinner event. We’d love to see a huge turnout from our LLLGA members as we close out our scheduled play for this year. Look for the poster in the ladies locker room for our fun GOLFTOBERFEST scramble event and go to Foretees to sign up!

Hope to see many of you there!
