The Superhero Dog
By
Lucy Edwards
My name is Lucy. I am blind and I use a guide dog. I decided to create a story book to educate young children on the role of a guide dog and how important they are to their owners. I wanted to show what we have been through together, and that no matter what happens in life, you should always follow your dreams and stay positive. I made this book with the help of Fixers, a wonderful organisation that helps give young people a voice.
"With a special thanks to Oliver Cave. Without you, none of this would have been possible."
The Superhero Dog
By Lucy Edwards
Once there was a girl named Lucy. She couldn’t see and she didn’t know what to do! She was very upset because she couldn’t walk outside without help. But one day there was a knock...
knock,
knock,
knock!
? ? Lucy opened the door and was confused... Suddenly her hand was wet, and she wondered why?
She felt forward a little more, there was fur! It was a
guide dog! What a surprise!
Lick, Lick, Lick!
Lucy invited the dog in and started to play! She didn’t feel alone anymore. The dog’s name was
Olga and she was here to help!

They started to go everywhere together and Lucy felt happy again... because Olga had a
superhero jacket that Lucy could hold onto! And Olga would show her the way.
One day they were walking to the shop. Halfway there, Olga’s superhero jacket stopped working. And Lucy didn’t know where she was. And she didn’t know why.
? ?
Lucy could hear the old lady from down the road talking close by. Lucy called out,
“What’s happening?” And the lady replied
“I am stroking your dog, she’s a lovely little thing.” ?
“Why!?” asked Lucy,
“That stops her jacket working and we can’t work as a team!” “I’m sorry,” said the lady “I didn’t want to be mean!”
Lucy and Olga walked on their way, and had fun for the rest of the day. Olga sat at the edge of the road. Cars would never hurt Lucy as long as Olga was there.
Olga was her guide dog forever, the most amazing friend in the world! Lucy realised she didn’t have to be alone anymore. Together with Olga she could do anything, as long as they were a team.
This book was created by Lucy (20) from Birmingham. Lucy is blind, and was inspired by her own adventures with Olga to educate young children on how guide dogs help those who need them. This book has been produced with the help of Fixers, the campaign that gives young people a voice. --If you want to find out more, please visit: guidedogs.org.uk rnib.org.uk actionforblindpeople.org.uk
