The achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) are being celebrated this month. Among the accomplishments highlighted are the invention of the N95 respirator by Peter Tsai, a Taiwanese American materials scientist; the work of Ernesto Ernie Chan, a Chinese American comic artist known for his work on Conan the Barbarian, Batman and Detective Comics; the Olympic karate career of Sakura Kokumai, a Japanese American athlete; the creation of USB technology by Ajay Bhatt, an Indian American computer architect; the founding of YouTube by Steven Shih Chen, a Taiwanese American entrepreneur; the advocacy for farm workers' rights by Larry Itliong, a United States immigrant from the Philippines; the Olympic swimming and surfing career of Duke Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian-born athlete; the co-founding and leadership of Yahoo! by Jerry Yang, a Taiwanese American inventor; and the engineering work at NASA by Josephine Santiago-Bond, a Filipina American executive.
