Another Active Hurricane Season: Get Your 2021 Hurricane Preparation Checklist By Sharon Glenn, May 21, 2021 1:16:43 PM As hurricane season quickly approaches, storms are already starting to form out in the Atlantic Ocean. If you remember, 2020 was not a normal year… really for anything… but definitely when it came to hurricanes. In fact, it was record-breaking! According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the 2020 season produced 30 named storms (top winds of 39 mph or greater), of which 13 became hurricanes (top winds of 74 mph or greater), including six major hurricanes (top winds of 111 mph or greater). It was a year with the most storms on record, surpassing the 28 from 2005, and the second-highest number of hurricanes on record. 2020 was the fifth consecutive year with an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season and 2021 looks to be a highly active season as well.
