Multiple instruments, ten languages, and seven countries define Okavango African Orchestra, winners of the 2017 JUNO Award for World Music Album of the Year. The Toronto orchestra takes its name from the Okavango Delta, a basin in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, where different animals, predators and prey, coexist and share meager resources. Similarly, Okavango African Orchestra brings together the traditional music and instruments of several major African cultures that historically have had little or no interaction. The musicians of Okavango create a common meeting place for these disparate cultures, and a new musical language that harmonizes different tuning systems, rhythms, and timbres. The multicultural spirit of modern-day Canada bridges ancient African solitudes.

The Official Blues Brothers Revue combines the comedy, music and mayhem from the original movie, as well as songs from the five popular albums released by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. It is a faithful recreation of the characters Jake and Elwood, and a spectacular tribute to Chicago’s rich history of Blues, R&B and traditional soul music. This is the only Blues Brothers Show sanctioned by Dan Aykroyd and the Belushi Estate. Anyone who missed a chance to see Aykroyd and Belushi as alter egos Elwood and Jake Blues, The Official Blues Brothers Revue has more than enough of the star duo’s charisma, mock-straight, buttondown humor, and great music to do the trick.

They’re a sensation because of their unique style on the world beats stage. Rolling Stone reported how this “Ukrainian folkdrone Björkpunk quartet DahkaBrakha went into Bonnaroo as unknowns but ended up with one of the most receptive crowds of the weekend. They got cheers for mournful accordion and apocalyptic cello sawing. Animal noises and bird whistles and howls got the audience to return favor…” Best described as a Ukrainian ethnic chaos, Euro-punk band DakhaBrakha, creates a world of unexpected new music. The quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range is intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring cultural and artistic liberation.
