The Hot Sardines

Sat., October 5 // 8pm

From selling out Carnegie Hall to Koerner Hall, The Hot Sardines are fueled by brassy horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies and vocals from a powerful chanteuse that reinvigorate classic jazz and makes old sounds new again. Their new album, French Fries & Champagne, expands their impressive range with a mix of covers and originals, channeling the ambiance of New York speakeasies, Parisian cabarets, and New Orleans jazz halls. This irreverent group captures the essence of 1920s Berlin, where American jazz represented both liberation and threat.

Experience the sounds of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Sam Wooding, and the innovations of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht live.

50th Anniversary

Thurs., October 24 // 8pm

Opening with Steven Strongman

The strength of this band has inspired me to be more creative. This band really allows me to do anything I want to do: modern, traditional, anything in between. They are masters of it all. And as for what’s next... I’m far from finished.

Working with Kim Wilson and the Thunderbirds was a very organic process... We both had very open minds during the process, and there was great energy in the room while we wrote these songs. He is a true living legend.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds are set to celebrate their 50th anniversary with their first studio album, Struck Down in eight years. Struck Down showcases contributions from Elvin Bishop, Terrance Simien, and Canadian blues guitarist Steve Strongman, who co-wrote nine of the album’s 10 tracks with Kim Wilson. The record captures the classic T-Birds sound, but in no way does it sound dated. Don’t miss the chance to hear this new material live.

THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS

Formed in 1974, The Fabulous Thunderbirds is a familiar name for anyone into contemporary blues and blues rock. This is the band that created classic albums like T-Bird Rhythm and Tuff Enuff, powered by hits like the title track and Wrap It Up, Tuff Enuff went platinum, selling more than one million copies. Led by founding member Kim Wilson, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been nominated for Grammy Awards six times and for Blues Music Awards more than 20 times.

Social Tango

Fri, November 15 // 8PM

Tango fascinates and touches people of all backgrounds and generations. Founded and based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Social Tango Project's mission is to share the social value of dance, celebrating the tango community through performance, music and film. The company invites tango lovers to experience a real evening to the rhythm of this popular dance so closely linked to Argentina, in the intimacy of a milonga recreated here by multidisciplinary choreographer Agustina Videla from Buenos Aires. Dance, music, projections and documentary film combine to create an authentic, immersive experience! On stage, ten dancers bring this love story to life with the rhythm of their steps, accompanied by four musicians and a singer who reproduce the traditional melodies of the milonga. The show also offers a beautiful visual experience, with the audience discovering the history of tango through a series of photographs and a documentary film by Argentine photographer Nora Lezano An evening in the heart of Buenos Aires... in Markham.

SOCIAL TANGO PROJECT

Founded and based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Social Tango Project’s mission is to share the social value of dance, celebrating the tango community through live performances, music, and film. Under the artistic direction of Agustina Videla, the company provides “a journey into the heart of Tango” (La Nación Newspaper), and aims to inspire individuals to join the dance floor and cultivate tango communities worldwide.

Social Tango Project offers a stunning interactive and immersive dance performance that blends movement and live music with cinematic documentary film projection, offering a colorful window into tango’s power to create and maintain social cohesion at times of political unrest. Because the company encourages the audience to embrace the tango and make it their own, each performance will also feature onstage appearances by local and regional dancers.

This is a beautiful audiovisual experience... an exquisite glimpse of a world of fascination with movement and the personal metamorphosis it can produce.
