Held at the Reunion Resort in Kissimee Florida on Wednesday, June 4, the 2014 Florida Association of Colleges and Universities Annual Conference brought together presidents and other leaders from all sectors (non-profit, public and private) of higher education. Representatives from the State University System, the Florida College System and the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida convened to discuss pressing issues in higher education.
Following a morning Board of Directors meeting, the conference kicked off with a luncheon provided in partnership with Florida Campus Compact featuring keynote speaker Lanny J. Davis. Davis, a lawyer, crisis manager, consultant, author, and television commentator, spoke of crisis management as it pertains to college and university presidents. He provided valuable information for handling the media, legal issues and public relations. As principal in the Washington law firm of Lanny J. Davis & Associates, Davis represents individuals, countries, and companies in high stakes global crises, litigation, government investigations and crisis management. His clients have included Whole Foods, Starbucks and Penn State University, among others. Following his well-received luncheon address, Mr. Davis did a book signing for his latest book, Crisis Tales-Five Rules for Handling Scandal in Business, Politics and Life, of which all conference participants received a copy.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Jackson Sasser, president of Santa Fe College. The evening festivities began with a reception, followed by the dinner and awards program. Special guest Will Weatherford, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, was in attendance to receive the 2014 Distinguished Service Award.
