Week 10 Studio Journal

In the week 10 studio class, our class went to the oval pavilion. This site is still under construction. The basement part seems being completed and the footing being poured.

It seems that this building is using a lot of timbers as it is mainly timber framed. The timbers can be recycled and it uses less energy and produces less carbon dioxide. Also, timbers are not expensive materials and can be easily got.

Furthermore, as shown in the picture above, the roof of the building seems to be flat. However, it still has some degrees. A water pipe and tank might be installed in order to help with collecting the water and transfer the water from the roof to the tank. Furthermore, with the roof part there are waterproofing elements such as flashing. As timbers are used for frames and they are easily get wet and then the building will be wet and people in the building will feel cold, also if the building get wet then it becomes very week. The waterproofing elements can help to reduce this damage.

We can see the timber frames and beams and some steel beams in this picture on the left.

In the picture above, we can see that these two parts are not on the same horizontal line and the rest of the framing of the wall repeat this type of order. This type of unequal arrangement could make this part more stable. Also, two cables were used and crossed next to the framing in order to protect this part.
