Week 8 Studio Journal -Oval Pavilion A1 1:1 Detailed Plan
In week 9, we were given a detail plan of Oval Pavilion, the scale of the plan is 1:5 and we were supposed to draw it on an A1 paper and make the scale 1:1. There were four parts on each detail plan; each of our group members chose one. The picture below shows the part chosen.
Ceiling UB Purlin First of all, we used tracing paper to trace our individual parts from the given detail plan. The detail plan showed detailed sections of the north roof in function room. After finished tracing, we calculated the new measurements by using the new scale. Then we started drawing the section on the A1 paper given and tried to understand the drawing in details.
Due to the limits of time, we did not go to the site as a group; we went to visit the site individually in our own time. Building process: with the building process, the building is still in under construction; it seems that they have already finished the basement part. Composition: the building will mainly use timber frames and some other parts will use steel frame and there are some columns that ware made of steel. Pros: the building is mainly using timber; they are less expensive which saves the constructing cost. Cons: timber mainly used will easily get wet and the house will easily get damp. Sustainability and environmental analysis: Concrete and steel produces much more energy than timber, timber needs the lowest production energy. Timber also produces less carbon dioxide emissions than steel which provide less pollution to the environment. Economic implications of decisions: some of the steel used can be recycled and the building is not using too much concrete, and will not produce too much waste. Also timbers are mainly used in the building so this action will save the constructing cost. Where and why things go wrong: the site is still under construction; so far we could not find any things go wrong. However, it seems like this site is going to build the BBQ area and the building uses a lot of timbers, which many cause a fire. However, this is not happening, just some concerns by me.
