https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_gfRRIMf-I&t=1s Proposal in a closed competition for the Institute of Cancer Research - CCRI, Cyprus This is a donation from GEORGE AND KAITY DAVID, the George and Kaiti David family to the University of Cyprus. The building will be build on Campus campus in Athalassa, Nicosia. After determining and evaluating the critical conditions of the project, the idea of creating a garden and less of a building that would be imposed with its architecture, was born. Without underestimating the intention of designing a modern and innovative, distinctive and original building, the heart and identity of it is transferred out of it into an environment that is essentially dedicated to remembering a person, and provokes reflection and feelings through the beauty and power of nature.

CYPRUS CANCER RESEARCH INSTITUTE The main idea could therefore be framed as “a research building for life and a dedicated garden of memory. The building was built around a northern garden, with the building block occupying the south and west side of the plot. The embrace of the building created three wings. To the east, the entrance and reception wing, on the main inflow side, coming from the University, but also from where the presence of the building is perceived. The southern wing is occupied with the main research labs and the management offices. While in the west wing, there are two other research units.

ON THE VERGE OF NATURAL & ARTIFICIAL
Our main concern, after the first research on the history and the environment of Cyprus linked with the natural resources and their exploitation by the human kind, was that people of Cyprus and worldwide are not aware of the outcome of the mining activities. Taking all that into account, we decided that the Red Lake near the Mitsero village is a solid example of the negative outcome of the mining activities on the island and that needs to be known by everyone. Although, in order for people to understand the history and the environmental impact of copper mining in Cyprus along with the extreme dipole in the environment around the Kokkinopezoula mine (the forest and the crater), we believe that visitors have to experience the site through an architectural complex that encourages and evokes thoughts and feelings. A cold informational museum, in our opinion, is not enough to pass on all the parameters regarding this particular site. After a lot of thinking and designing, we created an Environmental Awareness Center.

The landscape consists of two main areas: the "artificial" red lake (anthropogenic effect) and the virgin forest of the Troodos Mountains. Following the centripetal axis and perpendicular to the steep end of the forest, we decided that the basic principle of our design would rest on this dipole, which we always understood better. The dipole of the natural (the forest) and the artificial, between the virgin and the anthropogenic. On the verge of natural & artificial. 12

Studying more and more the forest we recognized its key points. Two hills and a valley in between. The existing trails gave us the idea of a path through the forest, which would create the beginning of our composition. This would help the visitor experience the forest and thereby reach a "promontory" (overlooking the lake). Our desire to unite these two hills and cross the valley, guided us to create an aerial route between the foliage of the trees. The visitor, after arriving at the site, begins his/her experience by starting this aerial route, where there are info points, giving information about the flora and fauna of Cyprus. The basic idea for the composition is the view of the lake for the visitor. How he or she should approach the crater. In our opinion, the lake should not be the first impression but the last. Our second, but equally important, goal is to recognize the contrast in the landscape, something which we think is only achieved experientially and not in an exhibition space. Having these parameters in mind, our design is following the East – West axis, starting from the forest and concluding in front of the lake.

DIPLOMA THESIS PROJECT
ON THE VERGE OF NATURAL & ARTIFICIAL The main idea was to create the "mold", a base that would hold a self-supporting structure-skeleton that would not rest on the ground but stand on that “mold” and allow the air to pass around it. The second layer we created is that of the skeleton, inspired by mining machinery. Inside the skeleton were placed all the functions of the composition that form the main structure. The basic idea was the creation of a space inside a space. A semioutdoor geometrical garden that would give a sense of paradise, something that, even if it was green, would make a huge difference to the forest. Inside this garden would be the Copper Museum surrounded by the flora of Cyprus. The museum was eventually divided into six enclosed units connected by glass bridges, thereby intensifying the alternation of light and shadow. The end of the museum is the "headland", as we call it, an empty space, an enclosed glass box. This part of the building, located at its end, is the only place that allows the visitor to view the lake. As for the design of this semi-outdoor space that hosts all the functions, the central idea was to split it into levels. It is divided into two basic levels. The first level is the ground level where the trees grow and where the copper museum would emerge (just like the copper mining procedure) and the second level, the grate. This grate, corresponding to the path in the forest, is floating above the ground level and is pierced by the trees. At the ground level, the visitor comes into direct contact with the natural element as well as with the greenhouse entrances (windows) that traverse the skeleton. Finally, the complex has museum workshops, a multipurpose hall, office spaces as well as a café - restaurant with view of the lake - all outside of the main building and the mold.

A special addition to the space that has shaped and managed to create the contrast, is the addition of two greenhouses adjacent to and outside the main massing. These greenhouses host tropical trees and plants and manage to show the human ease in modifying the environment. The ability of humans to put tropical plants among pine trees. The greenhouses also have showcases that interfere with the central skeleton, capturing the curiosity of the visitor about what lies behind the walls. The first greenhouse hosts a tropical environment, while the second one hosts a tropical desert environment.

SOULLESS "S M A R TNESS": The concept of “smart”
homes and their impact on domestic design and society, from an interactive perspective MASTERS THESIS
Video presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asio-F6X9_Y&ab_channel=FlorentinaTsakiri Issu book: https://issuu.com/florentinatsakiri/docs/tsakiri_florentina_arc6988thesis Through time, the residence is perhaps the most important space. The everyday life revolves around the house and is affected by its design. Nowadays the design of a house is influenced by many aspects, such as the concept of a ‘‘smart’’ house. The future of domestic design is linked with the evolution of technology and by extension, with many social, phenomenological and ethical parameters. Architects and designers will have to respond critically to a new era of digital domesticity, by taking into account the power that lies behind the futuristic advancements. How and why can the integrated automations change the nature of our lives and where do architects stand on? Is there a silent battle between the ascending ‘‘smartness’’ and humanity?
2020
STUDENT PROJECT
This thesis will explore in an interactive way the power of digital domesticity and will critique on what is expected, promoted and designed as a ‘‘smart’’ assistant. Is the friendly Alexa changing how we perceive women, spaces and what it feels to be at home? Or is she just a fun expensive new gadget collecting dust, by our bedsides?
Screenshots from the movie Conversing with the Alter Ego
One of my main design methodologies involves material engagement, by obtaining my own personal assistant and experimenting with its basic functions. Through the exploration of day to day interactions with this technology, this study will research the connections between user and device. Creative writing and experimental performance will be used as methods of exploration and as a critique of “smartness”. Whilst at the same time I will focus on the metaphors and attempt to explain the reasons why they appeal to the public, along with their role in architecture, following a feminist and phenomenological approach. 30

LIVING THE "SMART" LIFE
The project examines the notion of the House of the Future, placed in a small village in the countryside of Northern Greece, 50 years from now. The time and place were selected in an attempt to explore the futuristic design in the near future, set in a rural area as opposed to where futuristic design is usually proposed in a big and advanced city. The idea of this specific House of the Future set in a rural area, begins with a speculative campaign run by the government of Greece in a few years from now. This campaign is an attempt to persuade the people of the cities to rehabilitate the deserted villages near the borders and to redistribute the population of the hectic and crowded cities evenly, due to the pandemic we are now living in.
UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD
The script is used as a methodology to explore the technologies of the house and the atmosphere, colors and materials of the interior. Alongside this the impact they could have on the users is examined and discussed by the two characters. Moreover, the female character works as a ‘voice’ of critique on everyday life, gender issues, ethics of technologies and the interaction with them. The house on the other hand, is the narrator of the story, providing us with details of the design of the project.
SUPERVISOR: DR LUIS HERNAN
This House of the Future is linked with and controlled by a computer. The computer monitors, adapts and serves the needs of its occupant. The narrative device is a script, where the two characters, the computer of the house and the temporary resident, have various conversations about life. The resident is a woman that had to come to the village for a few months to work as a caretaker (for financial purposes and other paperwork) and to be a companion to an old lady, who lives next door. The conversations with the house provide an insight into everyday life inside the house and the outside world.

Physical model - Scale 1:300
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U55c8FwY67k The project calls for the exploration of a new model of comprehensive urban regulation under the pressure of continuous rapid changes in the economic, social and productive conditions of our country. Within the framework of the three aforementioned objectives, we were called to prepare a comprehensive proposal for a complex design (architectural synthesis, urban planning, environmental design, construction, social and, of course, economical managment) of an extensive urban area.
DUTH
Our synthesis could be described as a theme park. The great expanse and history of our region has prompted us to its partition in different sections. Initially, the cultural background of the old factory and mines in this region was a key factor in creating a cultural area, not in the form of the “soulless” museum, but by creating spaces (interior+exterior, a museum at the center of the composition and an outdoor pedestrian road) that are interactive. Thus, alongside the visitor’s education about the area, there is the empiric experience, which we consider more important. Also, in the cluster of cultural sites, we created a building that is linked to the main museum, used for periodical exhibitions, as well as a sports academy for rowing, near the coastal front of the composition.

Lastly, we took in consideration the importance of harbors for the promotion of culture and in combination with our intention to create a large green space, we used a site from the old factory of Lavrio as well as the rest of the outdoor space and we designed a theme park of plants. Following a similar logic to a greenhouse the plants are organised and the whole park is sectioned by the species of the exhibits. We imagined it as a gathering point of all the maritime trade routes, which brings together colours, aromas, and even flavors from around the world.

In addition, due to the location of the plot, our goal was to unite our design with the port of Lavrio and the terminal suburban station of Attica. Due to intense touristic and commercial activity, we decided that a complex of small shops and services, linked with the city’s activities, would be a key economic core for the region.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN VII
ARCHITECTURAL CENTER IN XANTHI Considering the height differences of the landscape, the two unique sides of the plot(urban grid and strong vegetation) and based on further analysis of the area we came up with the basic idea for the design of the Architectural Center in Xanthi. Our main intension was to intensify the cultural ring of the area. As a result we turned the building on the axis of the adjacent park.
STUDENT PROJECT
Τhe structure of the building is like an embrace that leads the walkers directly in the building, as an extension of their main path. This turn towards the square, in combination with the square-platform we created at the entrance of the building, manages to harmonise and unify the exterior space of the building with the surrounding environment. The structure of the building also allowss bring the greenery of the park to the plot. The functions of the cultural center are divided into different levels, leaving the museum on the upper floors and the other functions at +3.00 and -1.00, in order to allow to them to be open regardless of the visiting hours of the museum, as well as their direct access from the busy city side at 0.00. The independent character of 0.00 level is increasing the square, created by the use of pilotis.
