AMERICAN PHAROAH THE 2015 BRUCE CAMPELL AWARD was presented to J.B. and Kevin McKathan, who broke and trained Triple Crown winner American Pharoah at their McKathan Brothers Training Center. American Pharoah became the 12th Thoroughbred in history and the first in 37 years to win the Triple Crown. Slated to be sold in the 2013 Saratoga August yearling sale, American Pharoah shipped out for sales prepping. But when Zayat bought him back at the sale, American Pharoah returned to McKathan Brothers Training Center where he began his early racehorse training. In May 2014, the colt shipped to Southern California-based trainer Bob Baffert to begin his historic racing career. Garnering the Eclipse Award as the 2014 champion 2-year-old colt, American Pharoah returned in 2015 to sweep the Triple Crown and close out his career with a dominating win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). He retired with nine stakes wins, including eight Grade I victories, and career earnings of $8,650,300. American Pharoah was named the 2015 North American Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old colt. The Bruce Campbell Award has been presented over the years by The Florida Horse magazine to individuals or groups which have brought honor and prestige to the Florida thoroughbred industry.
