Treating Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain and a frequent problem seen in runners. The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue (fascia) that connects your heel bone to the base of your toes. It supports the arch of the foot and absorbs shock when walking and running. Tension and stress on the fascia can cause small tears. Repeated tearing of the facia can irritate or inflame it, resulting in plantar fasciitis. although the cause remains unclear in many cases of plantar fasciitis.
In some instances, plantar fasciitis and other types of foot pain may be caused by improper foot biomechanics. In cases such as these, your physical therapist may feel that additional support for overpr onation or cushioning for underpronation might be appropriate to help reduce foot pain.
Arch taping is a way to temporarily provide support for the foot and reduce stress on the plantar fascia. The physical therapist applies athletic tape to the bottom of the foot with techniques designed to protect the arch and lessen forces on the heel. This tape can be left on for multiple days and can allow for pain free running and other activity.
Over the counter foot orthotics such as Superfeet, PowerStep and Spenco brands are inserts that can help provide additional support and cushio n for mild cases of plantar fasciitis. When used in conjunction with appropriate footwear, these devices
help guide the foot to a more neutral position and can lessen impact on the bottom of the foot. This type of device is available in most good running shoe stores.
Custom biomechanical foot orthotics are inserts specifically fabricated after a comprehensive assessment by a physical therapist. These are individually designed devices that provide specific correction for over and under pronation. As they are made expressly for everyone, these types of inserts match the foot specifically and can be adjusted to control for any type of biomechanical deficiency.
Together with running specific physical therapy, including stretching, strengthening and joint mobilization techniques, a comprehensive plan to manage most forms of plantar fasciitis and other foot pain can help resolve these issues even in the most problematic cases.
If you have any questions regarding these or any other physical therapy techniques, please feel free to contact me! I can be reached at Advanced Rehabilitation. Phone(813)250-120, via our websit e www.advancedrehab.us or by email at carrigo@advancedrehab.us.

BENEFITS OF CAMERAS ON BIKES: A REQUEST FOR AN UNSCIENTIFIC SURVEY
In prior articles I have extolled the virtues of having video cameras on your bike, front and rear. I’ve used a combination of Cycliq6 rear camera/light with a front Garmin camera. Recently, I bit the bullet and purchased the newest version of the Cycliq 12 front camera since my Garmin is ancient. I had a bad past experience with the “12” but since the “6” works flawlessly, I thought I’d give the “12” another go.
I’m interested in those of you who read these articles, and use any light version, both day or night when riding providing me examples of how having the lights made you more safe; or, in the alternative, if you feel they were a waste of money, hearing that as well. In a future article, I’ll publish my findings from readers. Please email your thoughts to bch8@verizon.net.
I will say, as a trial attorney frequently representing injured cyclists, the benefit of having a video of the crash has made the difference to my clients of hundred’s of thousands of dollars in recovery. Unfortunately, it’s a sad fact that many many people don’t think twice about lying under oath when they’ve injured a cyclist. The video has helped me keep them honest, especially in cases where there are no independent third party witnesses.
I look forward to your stories, and opinions. I thank you in advance for taking the time to read, and then respond.

Nagging pain? Don't ignore it because it may become a debilitating injury. Recently I had a nagging pain in my foot and it was not actually keeping me from running but it was just this annoying slight pain. So after two weeks of dealing with this nag I took 5 days off of running. On the 6th day when I tried an easy short run that nagging pain was still there so I took 5 more days off & sure enough after my 10th day of rest the pain was 100% gone. (yup I went 10 days without running & I did not have to be committed to the mental ward). There was no quick fix, no medicine, no procedure, no expensive equipment to purchase, just REST. It’s a simple solution, get rid of the nagging pain once & for all so it does not keep nagging with REST not just low intensity but real REST. Now trust me I still worked out those 10 days. I just restricted myself to nonimpact activity in which I never felt any foot pain at all. If I felt it, I stopped and tried something else.
This is my method whenever I feel a nagging pain or even an injury. I take 3 full days off all activity that causes me to feel the slightest pain. I then give it a go with LOW volume & low intensity like 10-15 minutes max. If I still feel the nag then I call my doctor to schedule an appointment to get it checked. (A good orthopedic doctor like Dr Brian Maiocco or Podiatrist like Dr Sal Delis or Ortho Chiro like Dr Gerard Bogin are my first choices) Chances are I will probably have to wait a few days maybe even a week or more to get an appointment so I continue to rest and test myself every three days to see if I feel any pain. In the mean time if the nagging pain goes away I can always cancel my doctor’s appointment. If it does not go away, when I do finally see the doctor, I always ask for an X-ray or MRI (depending on the nag) to find out the real diagnosis. I then take action to fix it. More rest? Physical therapy? A change in form? A change in equipment?
The bottom line is don't ignore a nagging pain because it could eventually become a debilitating injury & REST.

swim
To propel the body through water by using the limbs, or (in the case of a fish or other aquatic animal) by using fins, tail, or other bodily movement. Water is known to reduce the impact on joints, soothe the mind, body and increase energy levels.
Recreational swimming and swim training
It’s important to recognize the difference between recreational swimming and swim training.
Recreational swimming: recreational swims are a fun and positive way to practice new skills and be physically active, spending quality time with family and friends. There are not set times or specific interval training is simply recreational. There are no tryouts required to participate in them. They are held during the regular season of the team.
Competitive sports take up a lot of time and need a lot of dedication. Recreational swimming have a larger number of participants and need less commitment
Swim (sport) Training: competitive swimming is arguably the most technique sensitive sport out there. Because we move through a medium of water which is some 800 times more dense than air, swimming is unforgiving when it comes to technique.
Competitive swimming take up a lot of time and need a lot of dedication.
When it comes to being a swimmer either recreational and competitive is good to know the difference and respect the water ultimately. Stay healthy and if you are thinking of getting better at swimming find a local masters group or pool lessons that will improve your fitness and speed becoming a breed and more efficient swimmer, and don’t forget to make time to have fun and play while you are doing recreational swimming.

Osteoarthritis & Stem Cell Therapy
WHAT IS OSTEOARTHRITIS (OA)?
Osteoarthritis is a condition where the cartilage within a joint begins to break down and the underlying bone begins to change. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and occurs most frequently in the knees and hips.
Once cartilage in the joint is lost, the goal is to rebuild the cartilage so that the joint has the protection it needs. There are not many therapies that can help regenerate cartilage besides Stem Cell Therapy.
WHAT IS STEM CELL THERAPY?
Stem cell therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that helps to restore natural function to damaged cells and tissues. At Physical Chiropractic, we use Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) , which are multipotent, undifferentiated cells that have the ability to self-renew and develop into multiple cell types.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After the MSCs are injected into the damage tissue, they release their cell contents which contain bioactive molecules known as cytokines. These biomolecules act as signalers and start the cascade of DNA synthesis, mitosis and cell repair. The also make the cellular microenvironment much more favorable for the existing cells to begin tissue regeneration. GIVE US A CALL AT 813 -207-5027
