CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member‘s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4 per hour; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member‘s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. There is FREE childcare service two nights per month for any FRG member who would like to utilize the service to attend an FRG meeting. To utilize the service your child must be registered with CYS Services and reservations must be made no later than 12:00 pm the week before the date of the opening. April 5 PRO PHOTO TIPS AND TRICKS Get the most out of your digital camera. The Arts and Crafts Frame Shop is hosting Pro Photo Tips and Tricks. This great class will teach you tips and tricks of your digital camera to enhance your photography; taught by photographer Mike Curtis. April 6 ANNIE GET YOUR GUN The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting an educational class specifically for women. The course will teach women how to handle and fire a gun. From 10:00 am – 3:00 pm participants will learn the different types of guns, what they are used for, how to use them, and how to clean them. The course includes a trip to the range to fire a few different types of guns. Cost is $20 per person, 18yrs and older, and includes lunch and ammo. Registration must be made one week prior to event. The Concert is in partnership with USO Missouri and Family and MWR and is open to the Fort Leonard Wood Community. Venue opens at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:00 pm. No tickets are required for this event. Atkins has scored six number one country hits including “If You’re Going through Hell”, “Watching You,” “These Are My People,” “Cleaning This Gun,” “It’s America,” and “Take a Back Road.” Atkins will perform his new song “Doin’ It Right” and several of his chart-topping hits. Currently in the studio, Atkins will release his fifth album for Curb Records later this year. In addition to the new single and work on an upcoming album, Atkins completed a summer tour with Darius Rucker and hosted a relief concert for victims of the deadly Oklahoma tornado. April 12 BASS TOURNAMENT The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) will be hosting their annual Bass Tournament starting at 7:00 am (or first safelight), weigh-in is at 3:00 pm. April 18 PITCH, HIT, & RUN The CYS Youth Sports and Fitness is hosting a FREE local Pitch, Hit, & Run competition from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Morris Field. Registration begins at 5:00 pm, no registration fee required. Competition is open to youth ages 7-14, proof of age will be required at registration. Winners of our local competition, in their age group, will have an opportunity to advance to the sectional level of competition. Pitch, Hit, & Run is an official skills program of MLB that is designed to provide youth with an opportunity to compete in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills. April 20 CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is hosting Concealed Carry Weapons Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement including weapons range qualification. Each student must bring a photo ID, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus minimum of 50 rounds each), and lunch or money for food. All handguns must be in good working condition. If you do not have both types of guns, please notify the OAC at time of pre-registration so that arrangements can be made. May 24 CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is hosting Concealed Carry Weapons Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement including weapons qualification on the range. Class is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo ID, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus minimum of 50 rounds each), and lunch or money for food. All handguns must be in good working condition. If you do not have both types of guns, please notify the OAC at time of pre-registration so that arrangements can be made. Class is open to the public 21 yrs. and older. Interested patrons must be registered the day prior to each class at the Outdoor Adventure Center located at 2290 FLW K Road.
