MWR Events / Information Fun at your Fingertips www.fortleonardwoodmwr.com CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member‗s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4.00 per hour will apply; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member‗s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. There is FREE childcare service two nights per month for any FRG member who would like to utilize the service to attend an FRG meeting. To utilize the service your child must be registered with CYS Services and reservations must be made no later than 12:00 pm the week before the date of the opening. Now – Oct 31 CORPORATE MINIATURE GOLF TOURNAMENTS Need a new fun way to host a team building opportunity? The Rec Plex hosts a fun and energizing team building opportunity at the Corporate Miniature Golf Tournament. Now – Sept 5 SKIES MUSIC & MOVEMENT: SHAKE YOUR TAIL FEATHERS The SKIES Program is hosting a Music & Movement class for children ages 3-5 yrs., themed ―Shake Your Tail Feathers‖ beginning September 6 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Audie Murphy‟s Community Center. Cost is $35 for eight 1-hour sessions. Music & Movement class is a creative movement, finger plays, and hands-on activities with child sized instruments. Parent participation is required. Child must be registered with CYS Services and have a current physical and shot records must be up to date before signing up. A minimum of 6 children are needed for the class to be conducted. Now – August 30 LADIES GOLF FUN LEAGUE Piney Valley Golf Course‟s Ladies Golf Fun League is in session. League will run through August 30 every Tuesdays at 5:00 pm. Registration fee is $30 for non-members / $20 for members. There will be weekly fees which are based on pay grade. The fun league is great for team building, a stress reliever, or just to hang out with friends, coworkers, and/or family. There will be an end of the league banquet dinner and trophies for winners. Now – August 29 EDGE! TOP CHEF JR. MASTERS REGISTRATION CYS Services EDGE! Program is hosting their Top Chef Jr. Masters beginning September thru October. Youth will work with the 4 th MEB Dining Facility staff and have the opportunity to enhance what was learned throughout the Top Chef Jr. and to learn more advanced cooking recipes, techniques, and methods. To be eligible to participate in the Top Chef Masters, participants must have been enrolled in the Top Chef Jr. Youth in grades 1-5 meet on Tuesday‟s and those in grades 6-12 meet on Thursdays from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Audie Murphy‟s Community Center. Program is an apprenticeship program offered through the CYS Services that is designed to meet the workforcepreparation and secondary education needs of eligible youth. Now – August 17 SCHOOL AGE SERVICES SUMMER CAMP School Age Services summer camp program is in session for youth currently enrolled in 1st - 5th grade. Weekly activities include swimming, bowling, mini golf and field trips. Weekly theme based field trips include but are limited to, Miner Mike‘s, Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area, Kokomo Joe‘s, Pizza Hut, Meramac Caverns, MacCreeds Art Gallery in Lebanon, Baker‘s Seed Company, and more. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided. No additional charge for field trips. Fees are charged weekly and are based on total family income category. This is an 8-week, 9-pin no tap/scratch tournament. Winner will hang their Guidon proudly at the Daugherty Bowling Center and win a trophy to display at their Commander‘s office. This monthly program offers after school opportunities for youth to Experience, Develop, Grow and Excel by participating in cutting-edge activities. Now – August 9 SKIES UKULELE WORKSHOP The SKIES Unlimited program‘s Ukulele Workshop is in session every Tuesdays from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm at the Audie Murphy‟s Community Center. Youth will learn about the unique and widely known instrument and learn the joy of island music. Youth must own a ukulele. Youth must be registered with CYS Services. Now – August 8 EDGE SUMMER TOP CHEF JUNIOR PROGRAM REGISTRATION (Grades 1-12) The CYS Services EDGE program will be offering a Summer Top Chef Junior for youth in grades 1-12. Participants will learn cooking methods and explore different food in preparation for the month of July-August. Youth in grades 1-5 will meet Tuesday and Thursday and youth in grades 6-12 will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm at the Audie Murphy‟s Community Center. Program fee may vary. Space is limited, so sign up today at the Parent Central Services located in Bldg. 470 in Rm. 1126. Youth must be registered with CYS Services. Now – August 6 NATIONAL BOWLING WEEK Join the Daugherty Bowling Center in celebration of National Bowling Week, come and bowl for a chance to win great prizes throughout the week. The Army Family Team Building (AFTB) classes will help you to not just cope with, but also understand, military life. With AFTB you will gain the knowledge and selfconfidence to take responsibility for yourself and your family while your sponsor is away. It‘s training for a way of life that prepares you in America‘s Army to function at the highest level. Many of these courses can be applied toward college credits, resume/career building, and selfdevelopment. Classes are FREE and open to the public. Classes consist of three levels and you are encouraged to take all three. Child care is available through CYS Services, child must be registered, must make reservations 8 days prior to class. August 6 FLY FISHING 101 The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting a Fly Fishing 101 program from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Program offers an in-depth introduction to the world of fly fishing, taught by Fort Leonard Wood‘s very own expert Mr. Greg Maxwell. No fishing license is required for this program. Cost is $10 per person and program is open to the public. Youth ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. August 12 LORA BASS TOURNAMENT The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) is hosting their annual Bass Tournament beginning at 7:30 pm. Weigh-in is at 1:00 am. Entry fee per boat is $40 and a $10 fee for big bass (optional). Stop by the Outdoor Adventure Center or LORA for entry forms/rules. Tournament is open to the public. August 13 BEAT THE HEAT SUMMER READING FINALE Join us at the Clarke Library‟s Annual Beat the Heat Summer Reading Finale from 1:00 pm - 4:30pm. August 14 CONCEALED CARRY CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting Concealed Carry Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement, including weapons qualification on the range. Class is from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo id, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus min of 50 round each), and lunch or money for food. August 17 TOPS IN BLUE “RHYTHM NATION” Family & MWR present Tops in Blue “Rhythm Nation”. The 2011 tour brings to life the music of America, from the early 1900s through today. It provides a glimpse of a century of popular music and how it grew through new rhythms and technology. It features the swingin' jazz of Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday, the great rock n' roll sounds of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, the cool Motown R&B of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, hits by J-Lo and Michael Franti, some inspirational country sounds and much, much more! Add the high energy precision choreography and dazzling visual impact TOPS IN BLUE is known for and every member of the audience will be singing along and dancing in their seats.
