MWR Events & Information Fun at your Fingertips www.fortleonardwoodmwr.com CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member‘s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4 per hour; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member‘s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. There is FREE childcare service two nights per month for any FRG member who would like to utilize the service to attend an FRG meeting. To utilize the service your child must be registered with CYS Services and reservations must be made no later than 12:00 pm the week before the date of the opening. Now-July 1 SKIESUnlimited BOWLING CLASS: REGISTRATION Strike up some fun this summer! The SKIESunlimited program in partnership with Daugherty Bowling Center will teach the basic fundamentals of bowling to include techniques, history, rules, score keeping and tips to improve your game. Cost is $45 per youth, includes instructional games bowled, shoe rental and t-shirt during this 6 week class. Beginning July 16 class will meet every Tuesday from 3:00 pm 4:00 pm for ages 6 – 12 and 4:15pm – 5:15 pm for ages 13 - 18 . Minimum of 6 participants required to conduct program. July 15 – 19; Survivor: Mentally and physically challenge yourself to be a survivor by working as a team In a sac race, obstacle course and a blindfold challenge. July 22 – 26; Going Green: Explore and learn how you can recycle and reuse, as well the effect of recycling on the environment. July 29 – August 2; Wacky Splashy Week: Beat the heat this week by getting wet and wacky participating in different water activities including a trip to Big Surf Water Park. August 5 – 9; Trains, Catapults, Coasters & Cars: Hands on experience building rockets, catapults and roller coasters using the Think It, Build It, Test It and Do It engineer philosophy. August 12 – 16; Movin & Grovin Olympics: Lots of fun and activities including Martial Arts, Zumbatomic, Line Dancing and other field activities. June 4 & 11 HIRED! APPRENTICESHIP PREREQUISITE TRAINING The Pippin Youth Center’s HIRED! Apprenticeship prerequisite training program is in session from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. The HIRED! Prerequisite training program will train youth in resume building, job application, and professional image, interviewing for the job, ethics, basic business etiquette, and money matters. June 8 ARMY TEN MILER TIME TRIALS Active Duty Service Members are welcome to come out and qualify during the time trials for the Fort Leonard Wood Army Ten Miler Team. Representatives will fly to Washington D.C. to compete in this year’s Army Ten Miler – entry fee, airline ticket, hotel room and per diem will be paid for by DFMWR. Trials are FREE. June 8 11TH ANNUAL KID’S CATFISH DERBY Outdoor Adventure Center in partnership with Resource Management Branch, Missouri Department of Conservation, and American Fisheries Society will host the 11th annual Kid’s Catfish Derby, FREE and open to the public, at TA 228 pond at the corner of Iowa Ave (FLW 1) and FLW Rt. 38. Registration begins at 8:30 am; fishing starts at 10:00 am through 12:00 pm. Prizes will be given throughout the derby for those lucky kids who catch one of our tagged fish. This derby is for kids 15 years of age and under, fishing license is waived this day. Free hotdogs and beverages will be provided for each child while supplies last. June 9 CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting Concealed Carry Weapons Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement including weapons qualification on the range. Class is 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo ID, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus minimum of 50 round each), and lunch or money for food. All handguns must be in good working condition. Class is open to the public 21 yrs. and older. Interested patrons must be registered the day prior to each class at the Outdoor Adventure Center located in Bldg. 2290 FLW K Road. For more information call 596-4223. June 11 SKIES MUSIC AND MOVEMENT SKIESUnlimited will be offering their Preschool Music and Movement class for ages 3 – 5. Cost is $40 per child. July 4 U.S. ARMY SOLDIER SHOW Family and MWR present the 2013 U.S. Army Soldier Show. The entertainment for the Soldiers by the Soldiers is back once again to entertain our Soldiers and families on July 4th. The 90-minute song-anddance production is designed to accentuate the strengths and resiliency of Soldiers and military Families through modern songs, current hits, vibrant costuming, exciting choreography and spectacular visuals. This year’s theme “Ready and Resilient: At Your Service” explores what it means to be Ready and Resilient in today's Army - as a Soldier, Spouse, Family member, Survivor, Retiree and Civilian. 2013 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the modern-day Soldier Show, which began in 1984. Each student must bring a photo ID, eye and hearing protection, semiautomatic handgun and a revolver (plus minimum of 50 round each), and lunch or money for food.
