CYS SERVICE SPECIAL OPENING - RESPITE CARE Deployment Respite Care is available for children registered with CYS Services whose parent/sponsor is deployed, on TCS, PCS or TDY (90179 days) orders or a Service Member of the deployed unit. Sixteen free hours of care is available per month, per child, during the deployment. A copy of the Service Member„s orders must be provided. The CDC opens twice a month for this service. The normal cost of hourly care is $4 per hour; payment must be made in advance. This service may be utilized by other patrons whose children are registered for hourly care. Reservations are required and may be made up to two weeks in advance. Care is available for children 6 weeks - 5th grade. Due to space limitations, paid reservations may be bumped to make room for deployed Service Member„s reservations. If this should occur, advance payments will be refunded. To utilize the service your child must be registered with CYS Services and reservations must be made no later than 12:00 pm the week before the date of the opening. ARMY FAMILY TEAM BUILDING Do you want a better understanding of the Army life? The Army Family Team Building (AFTB) classes will help you to not just cope with, but also understand, military life. With AFTB you will gain the knowledge and self-confidence to take responsibility for yourself and your family while your sponsor is away. It‟s training for a way of life that prepares you in America‟s Army to function at the highest level. Many of these courses can be applied toward college credits, resume/career building, and self-development. Classes are FREE and open to the public. Sign up for the Frame Shop‟s October 20 Fall Landscape Photography Class and learn techniques and get helpful tips on how to take great landscape pictures. This class is great for beginners and advanced amateurs! Cost is $65 per person and non-refundable, cost includes lunch. October 1 – 26 YOUTH BASKETBALL AND CHEER: REGISTRATION Youth Sports & Fitness is registering for Youth Basketball and Cheer. Cheerleading is for children in grades K-6th grade. Basketball is for children in grades K-8th grade. Cost is $40. Practice begins the week of 5 November and the games begin on 8 December. Teams will practice twice a week and play games once a week. Games are typically on Saturdays. Our league is a recreational league, focusing on teaching the athletes the basic fundamentals of the sport. October 1 & 18 JASON OTTER’S SCHOOL OF BASKETBALL: REGISTRATION Pro Trainer Jason Otter will be at Pippin Youth Center ONE DAY November 3 to help 4th – 12th grade co-eds develop their game!! The 7 hour clinic is designed for athletes who are excited and serious about basketball and stepping up their game. Jason Otter has trained professional, collegiate, high school and young athletes at all levels. Each player will be pushed to come out of their comfort zone. The players will go through conditioning drills, explosive drills, first step drills, ballhandling skills (right & left) and more. Class is from 9:00am-4:00pm. Bring a bottle of water, lunch will be provided. There are ONLY 50 slots available. October 12 FINAL COMMANDER’S GOLF SCRAMBLE Piney Valley Golf Course will host the Final Commander‟s Golf Scramble of the season with a 12:00 pm shot gun start. October 14 ANNIE GET YOUR GUN The Outdoor Adventure Center will host Women of the Wilderness gun program from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. This program will teach women how to handle, fire and clean different types of guns. Cost is $20 per person. October 19 DUELING PIANOS Back by popular demand! Join us for Dueling Pianos, a night of music and laughter at this all request interactive show. October 20 BASS TOURNAMENT The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) will be hosting their last Bass Tournament of the season starting at 7:00 am; weigh-in is at 3:00 pm. October 20 DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION CABLE RESTRAINT CLASS The Missouri Department of Conservation is holding a FREE Cable Restraint Class at the Outdoor Adventure Center from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Satisfactory completion of this course is necessary to purchase a Cable Restraint Permit and use cable restraints in Missouri. Unlike snares on land, cable restraints capture and hold animals alive and without significant injuries, and can be used safely in areas where other traps may pose problems for pets and other animals. When used properly by trained trappers, cable restraints have a great track record of holding captured animals without mortalities and with few injuries. October 20 5 ON 5 PAINTBALL COMPETITION The game is Speed Ball, the challenge is winning! October 27 MAKE A DIFFERNCE DAY Installation Volunteer Corp and ACS will be hosting “Make a Difference Day” the nation‟s largest day of community service – a celebration of neighbor helping neighbor. Join Fort Leonard Wood FREE from 7:00 am – 12:00 pm at Colyer Park. There will be a Motorcycle Rally, tree mulching, dodge ball brawl and more! The Lions Club will be providing hotdogs, chips and drinks. November 11 CONCEALED CARRY WEAPONS CLASS The Outdoor Adventure Center is hosting Concealed Carry Weapons Class; the first step in acquiring a Missouri CCW endorsement including weapons qualification on the range. Class is from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Cost is $15 to register, $65 day of class. Each student must bring a photo id, eye and hearing protection, semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (plus min of 50 round each), and lunch or money for food. All handguns must be in good working condition. Class is open to the public 21 yrs. and older.
