Planning for Innovative Curriculum Design and Student Learning JAWS

We offer the opportunity to explore and share experiences of how an innovative curriculum and pedagogy can make student (and teacher learning) deeper, transferable, contextualized, experiential and purposeful for learners. This JAWS will explore different approaches to enhance curriculum design and pedagogy through various innovative approaches. The two days will be based around workshops hosted by the teachers attending Proposed topics: ● Concept Based Learning ● Enquiry Based Learning ● STEAM Learning ● Forest and Beach Schools ● Reggio Emilia Philosophy

All delegates will be encouraged to share their own experiences of innovative curriculum design and learning in order to better inspire and engage their learners.

Primarily, this JAWS is targeted at current Senior Leaders yet content would prove extremely useful, and positively challenging, for aspiring Senior Leaders, who possess a depth of experience in other leadership roles.

Hosts This is a co-hosted JAWs event, yet both days will be held at The British School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL). Programme coordinators: Aidan Edmanson (BSKL) and Frances Baxter (Sri KDU).

Programme There is an expectation that all attendees actively participate throughout the two days and so the full agenda will be completed once all of the delegates are registered. Likewise, once there is a final list, all participants will be contacted and given the opportunity to lead certain workshop sessions. Possible themes, across the two days, will include: - Leading Teaching & Learning; - Strategic-vision planning; - Exploring the self and EQ; - Expanding leadership capacity and empowering others; - Courageous conversations; - Change leadership; - Leading recruitment; - Marketing and resource management. Each day will begin with explorative sessions, led by the hosts, on the challenges of senior leadership. The remainder of Day 1 will revolve around workshops, led by the delegates. The remainder of Day 2 will involve a leadership scenario where delegates are required to work in teams on a challenge, drawing on a variety of skills and approaches, which will culminate in a solution-focused presentation that is delivered to the whole group.

The University of Bath, UK and Bangkok Patana School Bangkok Study Centre Thursday 5 – Sunday 8 December 2019 Education and Society The University of Bath, UK, in conjunction with Bangkok Patana School, offers an opportunity for qualified educators to participate in the University’s MA in Education programmes. The full MA programme comprises five taught units and a dissertation. Each taught unit is followed by individual research and the submission of a 5000 word written assignment. The next unit to be taught at the Bangkok Study Centre will be Education and Society. The unit, which is relevant to teachers of all age ranges, has a number of aims, including the following:   

to engage students in the critical examination of key contemporary social theory concepts; to prepare students to conduct theoretically informed research in the social sciences; to link students’ personal research interests with a theoretical analysis of education.

The unit sessions will take place at Bangkok Patana School (http://www.patana.ac.th/contact.asp) as follows: Thursday 5 December 2019: 08:00 – 15.30 Friday 6 December 2019: 08:30 – 15.30 Saturday 7 December 2019: 08:30 – 15.30 Sunday 8 December 2019: 08:30 – 15.30 The fee for this 12 credit unit will be £1,265 payable in pounds sterling in advance. Number 1 for education in QS World University Rankings

Working with UCL Institute of Education in the Far East The UCL Institute of Education (IoE) has taken over 200 delegates through the NPQ programmes. They have a wealth of experience in running these programmes locally and they offer outstanding support throughout the duration of the 12 to 18-month programme. The NPQ programmes, as delivered via UCL’s IoE, are recognised and supported across the globe. The programmes offer a unique opportunity to network with other international leaders from across the Far East. The IoE offers additional support throughout the programme and at the final assessment stage, with a dedicated educational and administrative London-based team.

National Professional Qualification for Headship The National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) supports the professional development of aspiring and serving headteachers. In addition to the induction and five face-to-face (F2F) sessions, the NPQH programme follows a blended learning format. This consists of workplace learning and practice activities, peer and facilitated learning, reading, structured reflection, online learning and a 360 diagnostic assessment.
