Secondary PE JAWS
Dave Sargeant, Director of Sports, Jerudong International School, Brunei On the 9th and 10th December 2018, 15 teachers from Anna Sheppard discuss creativity in PE, while a JIS six different countries descended upon the tiny country teacher wear one of Edward de Bono’s hat of Brunei to share experiences, ideas and practises about teaching and learning in physical education. It was an exceptional weekend that combined powerful learning with the development of strong relationships that will last long after the last delegate left. The diversity and quality of the workshops was outstanding and ranged from how to use ICT in physical education to discussions on possible ways of delivering an effective PE programme using ‘Assessment without Levels’ to practical workshops on ‘Teaching Games for Understanding’. I, for one, came away from the weekend with something from every session, and know that my practice will be better as a result of this weekend. I cannot speak highly enough of the experience and would encourage anyone to attend a JAWS as sharing experiences from fellow professionals is, arguably, the most powerful professional development there is. Not a collapsed teacher, but a model to draw around for the human body

DEVELOPING THE COMMUNICATION FRIENDLY SPACESTM APPROACH IN THE EYFS FOBISIA JAWs 25 - 26 January 2019
Elizabeth Jarman
We are delighted to welcome our keynote speaker, UK based Elizabeth Jarman to this BSJ Learning Environments Conference. Elizabeth, founder of the Communication Friendly SpacesTM (CFSTM) approach is passionate about learning environments. She works with architects and educators to re-frame the way that people think about learning environments, inside and out. Using the latest research into brain development, physicality and learning, skills acquisition and interpersonal connectivity, Elizabeth challenges historical thinking about the way that learning environments are organised; to create highly effective and intellectually active spaces.
“As an International Speaker, she focuses on the importance of making confident and informed choices about spaces for children and teachers to learn in. Sharing highly visual research, Elizabeth inspires audiences to question their own thinking and to be bold in their aspirations for learners.” Elizabeth Jarman says, ‘it’s critical to understand how the physical space should connect with its intention. I think it’s essential to tune into the environment from the learner’s perspective. To do this, it is really important to observe, reflect and then make informed decisions about the way that children and families interact with the environment if a developmentally appropriate, personlised, responsive learning space is to develop, reflecting preferred contexts for learning’.
