At 2pm on January 24th, singer Jin Chi came to Dalian Times Square for the opening ceremony of “Clothing Dance Time”. At the event, Jin Chi wore items from the early spring collection from Louis Vuitton 2015, and sung the title track “Hao Hao Guo” off her latest EP.

Remote control aircraft enthusiast group FliteTest built a quadcopter “Helicarrier” drone with a runway on the top, and attached cameras to RC planes to pilot and land them with video goggles. Though you may not know it, these UFO conference events are nothing new. As China Daily reported, ten years ago “a cult-like crowd” gathered in Dalian for the World UFO Conference in 2005, the first time the event was ever held in China. The event garnered a lot of attention around the world, drawing over 200 people from nearly 40 countries including a few famous UFO experts and astronomers. It’s no cult though, as 90 per cent of the 400+ members of Dalian's UFO Research Society have college degrees. Indeed, most of China's UFO enthusiasts are scientists and engineers, not the Chariots of the Gods? nutty stereotypes as in the United States or Europe. China is very meticulous in presenting things scientifically and attempting to filter out the fraudulent, superstitious discussions. As reported in The New York Times, most of China's UFO research societies require a college degree and published research for membership. The Canadian reported that there are 50,000 members in officially registered UFO associations in China, and there’s even a nationwide bimonthly magazine devoted to UFO research with a circulation of 400,000. UFOlogists in China claim support from scientists and members of the military, giving their work scientific respectability. Their actions are overseen by the government’s National Society of Extraterrestrial Studies, founded over 25 years ago. The Dalian UFO Research Society is no exception, being officially registered with the Civil Affairs Bureau, the business unit in charge of the CPC Committee of Dalian University. Founded in October 1984, members include university professors, manufacturers, business leaders, scientific researchers, and engineers, who have joined to create this community of UFO enthusiasts. Their Society has grown to host China's first UFO symposium, the world's first Chinese UFO scientific seminars, and the World UFO Conference. The Dalian UFO Research Society has also established the first civilian UFO observatory in China, located in Pulandian. Even though they haven’t seen any UFOs at this observatory yet, they hope it will further their scientific study. “Ever since we started our observation site, we have only seen ball lightning a few times.” So the next time you and your friends gaze up at the sky and wonder, “Are we alone?” – The answer is no… the Dalian UFO Research Society is scanning the stars with you.

This year started with some sad news; the Shanghai stampede, Harbin fire disaster, Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris… For most of us these are just bad news, while for others each incident involves friends, family, acquaintances; a personal connection with the victims. Each one of us may feel this sadness at some point in our lives. After the stampede, the Shanghai government started a 40 person trauma intervention group helping survivors and relatives of the dead reach a state of emotional healing. How does one mentally recover from the loss? 新年始之于离殇。上海外滩踩踏中逝去的生命，哈尔 滨大火中牺牲的消防官兵，巴黎遭遇恐怖袭击的查理 画报……对于我们普通人，这些不过是一则则新闻。 但是每个事件的背后，都牵连着一个个生命，和与这 些生命相连结的人。而别离之殇，不论何种形式，我 们都或多或少能感同身受。 上海踩踏事件后，上海市政府组织了40人的创伤干预 小组，旨在帮助幸存者和死难家属脱离阴霾。 如何在死亡、分离的创伤中得到恢复呢？
